Windshield Wipers acting crazy

I have an 02 3.9 V8 Lincoln LS. Windshield wipers are acting up. They used to randomly go off on their own sometimes. That stopped for a while and it started doing it again recently but then stopped again. Yesterday I tried to use my wipers on all settings but they would not work. But they do work when I use the windshield washing fluid, so I don't think it would be the motor, as suggested in other threads. Any suggestions guys? It's already snowing here and I need this bad boy fixed! Thanks!

Try unplugging the rain sensor and see what happens. They should revert to manual mode then.

I unplugged the rain sensor and it still doesn't work. This is the rain sensor below, correct? Also the Orange light comes on.

Checked Fuse #20 under hood it's good. Checked Fuse #26 in passenger fuse box. It's good.

I suppose it could be the multi-function switch. But without doing some checks with a meter, that's just a wild guess.

... i could be wrong... but a failing battery sometimes causes this IIRC

If you have the wipers set to "auto" they will do an occasional test swipe; it's in the OM.

Wipers randomly started working now. Will check the battery.
