Since the forum has been riddled with repeat posts about technical issues and fixes that members are becoming tired of seeing I figured I'd start this thread to see what you guys have planned for the winter - wheel wise. Any of you guys already switch to your winter set? Any of you eying a particular wheel? Let's discuss and see some pics of the wheels you have planned for the winter. This will also give some ideas to members who don't have winter wheels yet and are considering options.

I personally will be switching before the first snow storm to Jaguar Cygnus 18's which have Conti pro contact all season tires on them. Going to keep my Volvo's on as long as I possibly can.

I should be fine in the snow right guys?

Ummm...I think I'll switch to my 4X4 Expy when I need some snow power...haha

But actually I have been keeping an eye open local but the 5x108 pattern is almost unheard of around my neck of the woods.

I'm not sure about using summer tires in the winter, I believe the tread for summer tires are designed specifically to maximize grip in "dry" conditions. However, I assume since you have a wider tire which would put more tire surface on the ground that you would be OK in the snow... I can't be sure though as I have never used a summer tire in the snow.

Factory 5 stars with Firestone Winterforce tires. No probs last year and we had more snow than normal

Hmmmmm......

Why the need to switch wheels? Is there a special wheel I need for "colder" temperatures? I use the same year 'round......:lol:

I'll be on the look for a set as well (just sold my old winter set)... Looks like I'll be in the 4x4 exby with the wife as well

Actually..... The rubber in summer tires turns to plastic (they get very hard) when the temp dips below ~42º. They get very, very slippery and lose almost all grip at those low temps. Don't ask how I know..... :slam

I'm sure your all seasons will be just fine through this:

When it gets real bad, I switch to these wheels:

Or the plane from Colombia en route to Canada had a problem with it's cargo door... ;)

The rubber compounds are different between summer/all season/winter tires, as LS4me mentioned. One thing to note as well is snow tires (well, almost all of them) are siped. This helps provide extra traction on snow. Once those sipes wear off though, there's really not much difference than an all season tire.

You guys and your 4x4's... jealous... I'm in the market for a beater truck 4x4, but they are tough to find in DECENT condition around me...

The stock wheels do make for good winter sets - unless of course you have chrome stockers.

G-rell whatcha thinking of getting? Anything in mind? Wheel-wise.

I would go with blizzaks for the winter , snow and ice wont be an issue with those tires

my winter wheels is a 02 cavalier with no clear coat (well i guess there is a little left in some spots...), on 16" steelies with sweet hub caps!

Raise your hand if you can't simply swap stockers on for the winter anymore. :p

raise your hand if you don't take your stockers off in the spring!

This Guy!!!
