Hi people I have a question about my turn signal/wiper switch. When in use my wipers started to turn off in the up position.I have to keep turning the switch off and on a few times in order for it to turn off in the down position.Any info on this if I need to replace it or could it be another part to replace? Thanks Lou

that happpens to me in my conti and my gen I mark, I guess they are just old

I guess, but I like to fix the problem before they stay in the up position or stop working altogether.

Many times but not always, this boils down to the linkage "elbow" need to be lubed. Not too tough of a fix. Remove the wiper arms, then the plastic air vent grills, then look at the linkage.. You will see that there is a short linkage at the motor that connects to the main linkage to the wiper pivots. Where this connects is the "elbow". It is a "cammed" linkage. when the motor rotates one direction the cam is in one postiton and when the motor is shut off, the motor rotates the opposite direction causing the cammed elbow to change position causing the wipers too "park".
Sorry if you are totally confused. Suffice it to say if you get the gist of the elbow, and you lube it with light grease/heavy oil your problem will go away.
Regular motor oil is a good choice. Grease gets too thick in winter to allow the cam to change position.

Thanks whiplash for that info.Since I live in Florida,I don`t have to worry about grease getting to thick.I will try some motor oil on that joint.I will post the results. Lou

it could be the "park switch" inside the motor, does the intermittent function work how it should? the wiper motor has a very simple position sensor to let the motor know where "down" is, and if the tab is broken off of the switch is bad etc the motor will always think its in the down position so it wont try to "park" the wipers

Hey whiplash I lubed the linkage and tried the spray mode and so far it is working normally, hope it stays that way. And chickenViii thanks for your input too.The intermitten wipers work fine,it`s only when I shut the wipers off, and use the spray mode that I have this problem.Mind you,it does not happen all the time, but when it does I have to keep useing the spray mode a few times to get them to shut off in the "park" position. Thanks guys. Lou

Just replace the whole motor. It's a mechanical issue like was said not an electronic one. But you cant buy just the part you need. A new motor is only like $50 unless you want to go with a ford one.

Thanks rich for your input on this subject.Right now it is working fine,of course there is no rain yet,but if it starts to malfunction again, then maybe I`ll replace the motor if that`s what it needs. Thanks Lou
