Hey guys, I've searched around and I swear I can't find anything about this, so if there is a thread I apologise. I managed to get a good deal on an AVN5435 dvd/nav just like so many others seem to be putting in their cars. Here's problem #1 - it was a display model (but I got a full 4 year warranty and I'll be getting a brand new one if this one goes bad) but they can't find the manual/install guide. I've done a lot of decks before, but never a dvd/nav so I may have a bunch of questions down the line for anyone who has the manual.

Question #2 - I'm ordering the single din w/pocket that everyone seems to be using and i'm modifying it/sanding it so it matches better. Does the fordparts one match so much better that its worth ordering online?

Question #3 - this is what's holding me up right now. I pulled the factory unit (non-alpine 6 disk in dash) and disconnected both stereo wiring harnesses. I got the Metra BHA5700 harness (part # may be different because I'm in canada) and one of the harnesses fits (the main one with the speakers & power) and the second does not. Best Buy tells me I don't need the other harness for anything, so my question is this: what are all the wires in the other harness for? I'm talking about the SQUARE 20 PIN one on the left side (as you look at it from the back). Any help would be fantastic - I want to get this thing on the go.

Question #4 - For anyone who put in the 5435 using the bracket for the factory HU - did you drill new holes? Nothing seems to line up correctly for me.

I'm willing to do a DIY with pictures for this, but I'll probably need a lot of info to compile it. Anybody have pictures of their 5435 mounted in the bracket but out of the dash? Thanks guys!

First things first....go online and look for an installation/operating manual. I can't believe Pioneer won't have one posted to download. But if they don't, there are a lot of boards for installers, etc and you may find one there. I would think it very important to have the installation manual....

I have the install manual for the avn 5495, basically the same unit but with a hard drive. I'm at work right now, so im just going off of what I remember about the install. First off, this is a very heavy unit and I would not recommend that you use the aftermarket install kit. If you sacrifice your factory unit you will see that it will provide a very sturdy metal bracket that will provide adequate support unlike the flimsy plastic that the metra kit is.

#3 I dont remember the part # of the kit that I purchased but I do know that all of the plugs are used. If the plug that you purchased doesn't fit, more than likely you have the wrong plug.
#4 You will hve to drill new holes in the bracket(not your headunit).

My radio had plugs i didnt use either. That doesnt mean you have the wrong plug. Not sure what that plug does but probably something with RDS or sterring wheel controls. Anyway as long as the main radio harness fits you will be ok. As far as the kit goes. Are you using a double din or single din radio? If you use a double din. I would take my old radio apart and cut the buttons out of the face and use the factory brackets. If you use a single din use the metra kit. You can glue in the trim peice and bondo in the gaps and paint it. Im currently doing that and its turing out really good.

Yes, the 5435 is a double din, but I'm looking at ordering the metra single din kit and cutting it. I thought about using the stock rado face, but I don't really like the idea of butchering my old faceplate rendering it useless. Yes the unit is heavy, and I will be using the brackets from the factory HU.

As for manuals, Eclipse doesn't have an online version, I've already been in contact with them. I really wish they would because it's useful. i'm sure i can do the install without it, but I would like it for operations etc. For the install I only need it for things like the TPS wire and for making sure everything else works.

For the plugs, it looks like the other harness is for the premium amps and extra speakers that were with the audiophile system, and maybe some other odds and ends. Somebody correct me if i'm mistaken, but I dont think I need it. The harness that fits has all power and the 4 speaker connections.

Check this eBay page:

look at the picture of the rear of the unit. The plug that I need is the middle one (the big square one). NOTE - I do not need the third plug on the left side advertised on the auction!

I tired making a doulble din kit when i worked at Audio Express a few years ago. I cut it and that looked like crap. Then i tried fiberglassing it and it didnt hold up, cracks and what not. Let me know what you plan on doing and post pics so i can attemp to try it again.

I just bought an AVIC-D1 for my 2001 LS, and was thinking the same thing about the metra adapter. Let me know if you get that thing in there and it looks decent. Anyone else got any ideas without getting into some serious fabricating? Creative Audio wants to charge me $200 to install this  , but I'd rather save the money if there was a semi-easy way to do this myself.

check out this page for some pictures of the install if you havn't seen it before. Regardless of if I'll be using the Metra kit or the stock faceplate I want a high quality stock look.

Check the pictures on post#3. You can see the harness that I can't find an adapter for. Note again, it is the square one that I can't find.

Has anyone installed the PAC steering wheel adapter in the 00-02 LS (I know some people have, so I'm trying to get them to speak up). I'm wondering how extensive the wiring was. I'm not cherishing the idea of cutting a lot of wires under my dash. Here's a link to the product in question:

It comes with really good directions. The wire you are looking for is in the steering column. So you will need to take the casing off. So you need the white wire in the column, constant power and ground. The programming is kinda tricky, just make sure you read the directions well. If you need to know the color for constant in the main harness, i have access to DEI direct techs so i could look it up for you. PM me.

Sheesh...sorry about that. I saw the "AV" in the first part of the model number and just assumed. We all know what that does....

Ok I have all the parts laying on my floor right now, and I have some questions for anyone who has the manual. I need to know what the following wires are:

pink (two different ones)

on the harness with the line OUT RCAs:
- solid green wire
- amplifier control +B wire (blue with white)
- the black circular plug with 10 wires going into it
- can i ground the parking brake to the chassis frame inside?
- how will it run without the speed sensor wire connected, where do you connect it to do it properly (and will it play video while in motion if the p. brake wire is grounded out and the speed sensor is connected properly

on the harness with the line IN RCAs:
-the brown, black, and white wires going to another plastic plug

main harness:
- there is an orange/white stripe wire on the eclipse harness, and I have solid orange AND orange/black on the metra harness. which one do I connect?
- the eclipse harness has a solid blue and a blue/white, the metra has two blue/white wires

ok thats all i can think of right now. let me know if anyone has any info at all. Thanks! Keep in mind, the more info I get now the better the DIY i can do afterwards. (if we think there's a need for one)

You can ground the parking break to the black ground wire or the chassis. You might have to put a toggel on it. The new pioneer needs to see an open current when the radio restarts, hints the toggel. Im not sure on the eclipse though. The speed sense is whit @ABCM under the hood (according to audiovox tech website) The blue wire= power antenna, the blue/white= remote turn on, light green is probably your prarking break, orange/white=illumination and orange/black is your dimmer. I never hooked those up when i was an installer. As far as it working while you are driving, it should if it's not like the new pioneer. If it is like the newer pioneer you will have to by-pass that. I dont know how to do that. oh and the pinks are probably your speed sense and reverse wires. That should help.

Ok I finished wiring it today and spent a lot of time making a face plate. I'm ok with it, but it could have been done better. I took some pictures to post soon, but I noticed my illumination on the buttons is missing. I thought I hooked it up right but apparently not. Can someone who has one of the AVN units please confirm that these buttons are supposed to light up? What wires should it have been? It's the solid orange hooked up to the orange/white on the harness I beleive. Orange and black is supposed to be an illumination ground and stays unhooked if i remember right. Any thoughts? All in all I'm very pleased.

ok thanks, i'll give it a try when i'm in there putting in the PAC connector and running the speed sensor wire. Speaking of which can anyone confirm exact location and color of the speed sensing wire? Some people say under the dash, some under the hood....

Its in a harness behind the radio. i happened to have the directions to a swi-x in my old install notes from back in the day. pin 14 or 15. it's in the directions, make sure you read those real well. i found programming those things tricky. good luck.
