how many of yall actually do WOT on a regular basis? how warm should i wait for the engine to get before i floor it? how can a person tell when they need to do a WOT to clean everything out? any help would rule.:D

I usually hit WOT at least once a day, but never before I'm warmed up. I have a Lincoln though. I don't do it to clean anything, just for fun :)

It is best for the engine to be completely warmed up. When you slam down the pedal, and hold it, listen to the engine. If it is pinging, with alot of black exhaust in the rearview mirror, that is a sign that you are good and carboned up. That isn't a good thing. It isn't necessary to continue the WOT procedure, until it is ping free (meaning consecutive WOT's). You can do it over several days. When the carbon is finally gone, you will do the WOT, and there will be no pinging, and no black cloud.

what gear select is the best, my shifter has drive, 3,2,1 i have no clue what the numbers are for.

Many people suggest using 2nd, WOT to almost redline, backing off so it compression brakes, and doing this several times. Me, I just put it in DRIVE, and do my thing. I just drive. When the opportunity arises, I just go for it. This works for me, and my engine is carbon free. Just do your normal driving. When you are going to accelerate, don't do it as you normally do, slam it and hold it. Just don't do any major lawbreaking. The police do not care if you are cleaning carbon out of your engine. Just do it, and post how it turns out.

You should consider doing it on long, straight, empty freeway onramps, otherwise, the police WILL care.

I have a favorite uphill one so it's at WOT a little longer, but my 108k+ N* doesn't seem to put out the black you talk about, just a light grey. :)
