Wtf!!! What yr is this 1996 1/2???

That's the thing it probably is a 98. I would put money on the fact that it has a 2nd gen engine under the hood and that somebody probably had the rear end repaired with 93-96 1/4 panels, trunk lid, lights bumper etc. Theres simply too much work involved with getting all of the 2nd gen electronics to work in a 1st gen interior for the average guy to just want some newer looking seats and dash. Much less work involved with just having a body shop replace the rear 1/4s and paint it...anyways I think were just beating a dead horse here..unless someone wants to solve this mystery by just calling the guy.

body work is not cheap. a hit bad enough to require a new rear clip will total nearly any car.

my aunts 97 got sideswipped and the insurance company stopped adding up the labor when it got near 5k. they didn't even get into paint or mechanical damage at that point.

its plenty expensive just to replace the rockers over the rear wheels on these cars as they are at least double walled. mine is rusted out so i can get a pretty good look at what needs to be welded to replace it.

no. now the interior rewiring, if you pull everything down to the dash and wiring out, and then replace the engine wiring harness. you have most of the car converted when you put the 2nd gen dash and interior in.

you could accomplish this with both parts cars sitting next to each other for almost no cash.

OBD2 gen 1 marks are around. lonnie converted his. jeremi has converted a few. 96s start half converted its possible. and plenty of people have swapped noses before.

this seems much more likely than a full rear clip and trunk replacement. some bondo fixes the antenna real quick.

by the way, would a rear clip replacement even work? given the differences in the trunk lid? they would have to cut quite a bit out.

and someone3 please tell me where the second pic came from - its obviously not the same mark?????wtfreak?

I found a pic of a 98 Mark VIII and posted this pic as a profile to use to compare the two images.. thats all.. they ARE NOT the same.. :p

Chris it depends how new the car was if it was repaired, there was a story on a car from one of these sites that was rear ended when it was still somewhat new that had this same amount of sheet metal work done, they showed a pic of it while at the body shop showing the rear trunk structure and both rear 1/4s removed with the roof hanging there..but it also depends who's doing the work..there are some shotty body shops out there that do work on the cheap. It just doesn't make sense to do all that work swapping all of that sh*t over onto a 1st gen and just not care about the car after and run it into the ground. And give it up its not photoshopped what would be the reason to photoshop the rear of a first gen onto a second gen for a craigslist ad? Ill solve this sh*t and call the guy today..I'm tellin ya its a 2nd gen.

I was actually going to purchase this car, but decided against it. I ran a carfax and it was originally a lease car, but within the first 2k miles it was "salvaged" (carfax doesnt say why or provide any information" and in 2004 the dealer just so happened to bring it back and sell it. The carfax shows it is still currently a salvage title. When I was talking to the guy he said he had no idea. It is a 98 according to the Carfax but is not an LSC

BOOM..settled.

Makes no sense why it would be repaired with the wrong sheet metal, whoever fixed it probably cut alot of corners to make it worth salvaging..but hey a lot of people do things that make no sense, so whatever.

wow chris.... to much $$$$ to swap the rear...what gave you that idea....(hint hint ME AND MY POST right above yours hottie ;) oh yeah and the 5 years of trying to figure out how to do it at a semi-reasonable cost...) thanks for splaining that 2nd pic..was wondering...

I called...guy was supposed to send pics...suspiciously (not)...he played clueless...but since I have no pics yet ...he confirmed my suspicions..we shall c... I straight up asked him...why does the back end look like a earlier year...he again played clueless...seems like a nice guy though...heheh but like most...clueless...lol J/K!

I stand by my prank claim

Read falsatheals' post above my last one..he just stated he went to look at it and got the vin as well as a carfax. What other proof do you need? You'll be dissapointed when you see a pic of an OBDII 2nd gen motor under the hood. Make sure he sends a pic of the drivers side door jamb tag with the year on it..tell him to throw in a pic of the catalyst sticker under the hood that reads "1998" also.

You both nailed it...., I was totally wrong.. still unbelievable (that someone would do that AND that I was wrong - lol)...the money spent to swap that rear out is insane, a dealer would do it, they would have the resources to waste but if it only had 2k on it, I can see how someone would try to make a buck, in 98 - it woulda been possible, or the dealer had it fixed and kept it himself (or semi-himself) a lot could have happened to it.. in my opinion, they guy will be better off keeping it. When the dude txt me the pic of the rear - my jaw hit the floor. I've been watching Marks since 93 and have never...EVER seen a retro rear swap

No, I didn't see fails post, still getting used to this new format...have to do too much scrolling, not used to it yet apologizes.

Yeah not sure why they would repair it with the wrong sheetmetal either. Im guessing they found another mark viii and repaired it with used parts to keep the cost down rather than probably brand new 1/4 panels and trunk lid at the time. I know id be mad if I had a 2nd gen that the body shop wanted to fix with the wrong body panels. However I have seen a black 1st gen LSC for sale before with a 2nd gen nose on it..IMO they ruined it by doing that..to me the nose is one of the best features on a 1st gen.

my most favs of a 2nd gen are the grill and plumbers butt....nothing else attracts me..Lincoln "town cared" the interior by flattening everything out..including the console...no more cock pit feel..and the bunny nose hood is just ...well..not meaty or aggressive...but the collapsible grill and neons - totally buttlicable!!!

your "LSC stuff" looks good!! ;) HIDS, molding,...did you do the seats and exhaust too?Aint nothing like a 1st gen LSC - gotta love em!

Exhaust, gears and seats are all still factory base stuff, I just did the HIDs, bumpers, mouldings, badge and threw in some matching lsc floor mats for the hell of it. Exhaust is next up on the to do list..just have to pull the trigger and buy the stuff online. Gonna go with mandrel systems 2.5" stainless pipes with x and magnaflow mufflers out back. I have found lsc seats in the jy before but mine are still in good shape, cant bring myself to spend the money on something I don't need..just to have little pin holes in the leather. If I do anything to the interior it'll be swapping over to black (no easy task, but maybe down the line). Would like to change the gear also but I feel like if I do that then I'd want a stall converter, jmod and one piece drive shaft..and the list just keeps going at that point.

lol - I feel ya... the list goes on and on...!!! and agree with the seats...the perfs were just in prep for the booty warmers...without the booty warmers the perfs only make the leather weak and more suceptable to tares.

I suggest go straight pipes from the resonator/converter on out - screw the muffs... she will sound better and be cooler w/o em - go 2.3's till the bend - then 3"'sfrom rear wheel on out - looks bad all get out, sounds GREAT and saves $$$ without the ugly muff look - just my ho.

I had a bender make my pipes (got to watch and everything - friggin creamable!!) - then removed the resin/convtr dropped a dual/dual out Xover muff (under he console) and only pipes from there on out - u will love it...with each ride he gets raspier and deeper!!! posi unit in the rear... wish I would have done that B4 I UPPED my gears to 410's... (lol - but still love the 10s!)
