93 Mark VIII
That's the thing it probably is a 98. I would put money on the fact that it has a 2nd gen engine under the hood and that somebody probably had the rear end repaired with 93-96 1/4 panels, trunk lid, lights bumper etc. Theres simply too much work involved with getting all of the 2nd gen electronics to work in a 1st gen interior for the average guy to just want some newer looking seats and dash. Much less work involved with just having a body shop replace the rear 1/4s and paint it...anyways I think were just beating a dead horse here..unless someone wants to solve this mystery by just calling the guy.
body work is not cheap. a hit bad enough to require a new rear clip will total nearly any car.
my aunts 97 got sideswipped and the insurance company stopped adding up the labor when it got near 5k. they didn't even get into paint or mechanical damage at that point.
its plenty expensive just to replace the rockers over the rear wheels on these cars as they are at least double walled. mine is rusted out so i can get a pretty good look at what needs to be welded to replace it.
no. now the interior rewiring, if you pull everything down to the dash and wiring out, and then replace the engine wiring harness. you have most of the car converted when you put the 2nd gen dash and interior in.
you could accomplish this with both parts cars sitting next to each other for almost no cash.
OBD2 gen 1 marks are around. lonnie converted his. jeremi has converted a few. 96s start half converted its possible. and plenty of people have swapped noses before.
this seems much more likely than a full rear clip and trunk replacement. some bondo fixes the antenna real quick.
by the way, would a rear clip replacement even work? given the differences in the trunk lid? they would have to cut quite a bit out.
