Your mileage and problems

The d4 wouldn't be important at all with select shifting just was useful at times when the transmission would want to go to 5th and back to 4th in short time frames.

Not meaning to hi-jack this thread but happen to see the SST locally for $43.45, so I picked it up before work anything I should know before performing the swap? PS is there a way to swap the leather knob for the wood I currently have? Thanks for you help LS4me the SST was the only thing I really regretted not getting on my car all those years ago.

Shift knob...... Pull down the black collar at the bottom. That exposes two screws on either side of the lever. You will have to yank up pretty hard to pull the knob off the lever!

SST install..... Instructions here.

So if i install the sst shifter, I'd lose D4. But I don't have to reprogram the PCM unless I want it back?

Yes, unless you have a V6. If you have a V6 (I don't remember) you will never be able to get D4 as there is no (USA spec) V6 sport calibration.

Yeah. I have the v6. I don't ever plan on reflashing the PCM. Just out of curiosity, does the sst lamp illuminate on the dash after the swap?

Where exactly do you have an SST light on the dash? That's the first I've heard of this.
The "D5" on the gear display changes to a "1", "2", "3", "4", or "5" depending on what gear you are in.

Right next to 4 is SST, you can see it if you look really hard. I'll take a picture of it tomorrow.

Edit:
2004 Lincoln LS V6 0-60 SST - YouTube

Pause at 0:01 and you'll see it right above the gear indicator.

Sorry, I was thinking light and not legend.
I only ever use mine in the mountains.
