Ok so I told a girl friend of mine I would fix her car, typical misfire multiple o2 sensor codes etc.

I did some research and found how to do the COP replace... Removed the intake etc. I did all that, I even had valve cover gaskets and rings Incase oil was seeping into the plug wells but all was good. Button that all up and move to replace the o2 sensors....

We live in an Emissions County in Texas so that was the reason for fixing the car and getting the CEL off plus it was missing at random times.

Crawl under the car to start pulling o2 sensors and the previous owner had pulled the V8 and put in a V6. Since he didn't live in an Emissions County there was only 2 o2 sensors after the little cat and no upstream sensors. You could see where they welded new pipe and I assume just "deleted" the wrong ones "dumbass**".

So my question is can I just run new wire to the pcm and weld in bungs on each side?

If anyone has a wiring diagram "wiring for dummies" friendly would be awesome for the o2 sensors or any other suggestions that would be good also.

I'm really not even sure which ones he deleted, he might have an upstream on one side and a downstream on the other... Who knows! Passenger side had a "green" cover and drivers was "grey/white" but that's just the sensor wire so no way of telling if it was the factory upstream/downstream pcm wire.

Any help would be appreciated. The new MC COP and NGK plugs fixed the running issues I just have to fix the hack job on the sensors. I'll upload the printout from the obd codes as well

Thanks!

Weird. I can get you the pin numbers tonight. Switching a V6 in for a V8 is quite an accomplishment. He had to swap a lot more than just the engine. Could you PM me the VIN?

Haha yea I thought the same thing... Now that's what the guy told her anyway so who really knows. This is the first time I've worked on anything Lincoln. I will get it from her and PM you. Thanks man!

What's even weirder Joe, is the fact this new member actually read, understood and applied "MC COP and NGK plugs fixed the running issues".

Fn awesome!
every now and then, you get a natural in the bunch.

Haha I've used online forums a few times... I'm a GM fan LS series of engines. I built a heads cam nitrous 6.0 for my 05 GMC Sierra and had plenty of tech questions during the build. I've used HP tuners and EFI live for tuning so I know her car will run like crap fuel wise until the up stream o2 are working.

Now I did say a few choice words about having to remove the intake for pass side COP and plugs but hey every auto maker has some funked up designs

Google has a wealth of information, I think most people are just lazy ‍♂️ And want to just ask instead of search. I looked for some diagrams but those I found weren't really helpful!

Most don't even know of or could possibly even begin to locate the Search button on this forum.
but yep, like you said, too lazy, much easier to just start another new thread with a question that's been covered enough from here to there since the dead horse beatings started and stopped.

Joe I don't know if I sent it as a PM or it posted on your wall of your profile... Mobile version is wacky. Either way I sent it.

Yep, I got it.
It seems that y'all were a little misled. It started out as a V6, not a V8. Someone may well have swapped engines in it, but the original engine was also the V6.

Hmm yea I think the guy she bought it from was full of it.... Maybe that was his excuse for the check engine light? I'm not sure, I don't know all the details of the sale but I'm sure it was along those lines. Interesting!

You're the man Joe! I have passed on info to her.

I asked her why he even brought up the engine swap?

She stated he said "It has been swapped to a V6, originally had a V8... That's why the 2-3 shift is hard. So don't worry the computer doesn't realize it has a different engine".... I wasn't around when she bought it so I couldn't call him on his bs.

Umm hey dumbass the engine wouldn't even run with a 3.9 ECM etc etc but there's plenty of people that don't know jack about cars and believe whatever is told to them.

If y'all find a wiring diagram for dummies I'm going to try and run the wires so she can at least have a emission compliant vehicle. Plus without fueling feedback that will cause more and more issues as most on here would understand. I wish I still had my tuning programs so I can at least run logs and see what the fuel trims are doing and other things...

Thanks for the info Joe.

Unfortunately, transmission problems are fairly well known. There's some more Google searching in your future.

Hahahahaha, already versed up on those issues. I told her we can correct that once we get these issues fixed.

Joe, where are you running these VIN's again?
bit different info supplied then one I had used before.

interested particularly in,
Version: Std Version

Have that questionable wood trim inside my 01 Sport which I seen someone post a while back, was not supposed to be any wood unless it's a Premium. Other issue, our previous 03 was indeed a Premium and had zero wood.

Just wanted to run some VIN's and get another opinion.

Thanks man!

So I suck at reading those things, does that mean 11,12, 21 and 22 are the pin numbers in the PCM?

No, where did you get those numbers? It's not what the diagram shows.

Power for the heaters for all four comes from fuse 1.11 (underhood box), The wire starts out as green/blue, but changes color for some of the sensors. Bank 2 monitor is pin 14 (signal ground), pin 29 (signal), and pin 16 (heater ground). Bank 1 monitor is pin 14 (signal ground), pin 28 (signal), and pin 16 (heater ground). Bank 1 sensor is pin 17 (signal ground), pin 45 (signal), and pin 7 (heater ground). Bank 2 sensor is pin 17 (signal ground), pin 44 (signal), and pin 8 (heater ground). Note that pin 17 is on page 23-3, which was not posted.

Well I was way off but I see what I was looking at to come up with those number ... hahaha 11 is bank 1 sensor 1 21 is bank 2 sensor 1 etc... Wow I dunno what I was thinking. Like I said I suck at reading wiring diagrams!

Joe thanks for spelling it out! I appreciate it.

Here's another version of the diagram. May or may not help. jlowe posted the factory one that I was going to. No need to repost that one.

Is there a way to a "clearer" picture of that diagram? If not that's OK. I saved it and tried to zoom in but it was blurry. Thanks for the help man

The only way that I know is for you to PM me your email address. If your email can accept large attachments, I can send you the entire 04 wiring diagram.

so wait, why do you need to run new wires for the other two o2 sensors? did the previous owner cut the old ones off? (all LS's came with four o2 sensors from the factory)

That is all I can come up with. Unless they're tucked above the transmission... Plus there's no bungs for the upstream o2 sensors. You can see new pipe where they just threw some cats on it and welded it up.
