You want a 13 second bolt on Mark VIII? Here's the formula...

- full tuneup
- 4.10-4.30 gears with trac-loc
- 3600-3800 stall converter
- 255/16 MT Drag radials
- Custom tune
- Exhaust (x pipe in place of 3rd cat and some high flow muffs)
- sea level drag strip

That's all that's needed, keep it simple guys...

My 95 LSC had just 4.30 gears, tune, exhaust and pulleys and went 13.8 at 101.3mph, stock torque converter, all season tires, 2.1 60 foot time.

Ok, I've been pondering doing the 4.10 gears for a long time now. Can I buy a complete rear end with the trans-loc? Or are these sold seperatly. I see a lot of places selling the 4.10 Gears. What all is involved in the transformation?

You can't buy a complete rear unless you can find it used. You can buy the gears and then a new trac-loc or you can find a used trac-loc and rebuild it which is the best option in my opinion.

Search on the corral.net drivetrain for sale forum, look for any used 8.8 28 spline axle trac-loc from a Mustang.

you can cruise pretty good on the highway with the 4.10. you can run about 75 to 80 at right about 3k rpm. which i prefer not to cruise at any higher than that due to more wear and tear on the motor

I got lucky and grabbed a diff assembly off EBAY for $60 then a set of 4:10's for $100. Then my friends place that specialises in setting up rears got me a brand new BLEM Trac-Lock for another $100.

Picked up the speedo gear for $9.99 off EBAY once again and to finish it all off a solid 93' Mark VIII drive shaft.

Now if I can just get myself to put it all in the car cause of the weather. Actually I just got 2 air bags for the rear and I'll most likely do it all at once :shifty:

+ 1 for buying from summit
+ 1 for taking it to a shop, you gotta set backlash and set shims, it's better if they screw something up.
- 1 for buying a ford limited slip rear end.

Are there any good books / write ups on doing it yourself? I would like to do a full pumpkin rebuild in 08. Sounds like it could be a fun little project, with abit of 'know how' and patience...

They have dvd's on ebay that I have seen. Complete step by step rebuild. Taking the whole thing apart/out is a no brainer, it's getting the gears setup right.

Really? Thats good. Will search around. Yeah, i figured setting the lash would be the part that would require some knowledge. I have set lash on a Salisbury axle, but that was 7 years ago. Cant remember what i did now, although i doubt a Ford 8.8 would be the same anyway...

I got my trac lok for 30 bucks. It's actually in very good condition but for the sake of not having to tear my rear end apart again im rebuilding it.
