2003 V8 need reman motor, any good sources?

Every LS owner on this site should know their nearest salvage yards by now. All LS's are over 14 years old now and these yards are fast becoming our only source for most parts. Call around, you might find a yard that has already pulled an engine, most will be happy to refer you to a yard more likely to have an LS, some offer some kind of money back warranty (though labor will not be included). In my pick a part prospecting, I find that about 1 in 8-10 gen2 LS's are under 70,000 miles (they usually write the milage somewhere on the car), which compared to my 210,000+ LS, is low milage.
Ya I'm fully aware trust me, however read the thread, i don't wanna take a guess gamble on a junkyard motor, i want a fresh rebuild. It's not rocket science, shits too expensive to have to do it twice, thanks

I know of one yard near me that probably has 15 LS's in it.

Unfortunately it is permanently closed... due Covid.

I knew I should have bought the all red LSE tails when I had the chance. (doh!)

want a fresh rebuild.

I don't think that's gonna happen. Went on Ford's parts site. Plenty of engine parts for the v6... virtually none for the v8.

That means sourcing what you can from Jaguar for the 4.0 ... and I'm not sure they are all cross compatible with the 3.9.

AJV8 might be the one to talk to about that... but being Jag... you probably won't like the prices.

That's unfortunate, might have to get a different one and use this one for parts, or just find something better with more parts availability and start over. I'll keep this shell till the batteries and electric conversion kits get cheaper, ha!

Yeah... that Eluminator conversion isn't that simple as they make it sound.

From a related article:

"Of course, there is the work involved in converting the vehicles. This must be done by professionals, as each electrical unit is configured to serve a modern architecture, not that of a product designed in another era. Other components must also be obtained from specific suppliers, so the operation is not a simple, straight-forward one. Think IKEA furniture, times a thousand."

Yea I saw that too, that's why I'm gonna wait, they'll get it more streamlined eventually the once batteries are good enough to make it worth doing and people start doing it. Frankly I'm looking for 400 or more miles range before I'd even consider it for real. Long ways between plugs in North Dakota, ha

I'm waiting for batteries that last more than 8 to 12 years. $20K for batteries every ten years is a bit hard to swallow.

IIRC, there was never any supply of internal engine parts for the LS V8, hence no way to rebuild.

That may be true... but I was under the impression that the 3.9 and 4.0 longblocks were the same.

Plus I vaguely recall that one member did a rebuild... and painted the block a medium hammertone green.

But that was a LONG time ago... and he sourced the parts from "across the pond."

Not the one I was looking for... but may be even better.

And since my phone is being an uncooperative POS... copy and paste the following to Google...

So far: 4.0L Jaguar S-Type bearings = 3.9L Lincoln LS bearings site:lincolnvscadillac.com

I find that hard to believe, they had to build them in the first place, then what did they do if something broke, full engine swap? Lol

I was thinking more along the lines of "machined dimensions".

Bore, stroke, journal dimensions... etc.
I thought they were the same also with just a bigger something to give it that extra .1, thought i read that somewhere but you guys definitely know more than i do about these cars.

Being a long time, 21 year LS guy, I always read that the V8 was an option swap replaceable unit when it came to short block repair. lol

Crazy, well I'm sure you could source bearings from somewhere if you knew the specs, but not sure about the rest of the parts. I also need some "tapits" i think he called them, whatevers in place of lifters, part that pushes up the valves

There is the part number for a long block at rock auto.

Yes, that's exactly it. Dealerships were told not to attempt internal repair (except for timing related, and oil pumps). Anything inside the block called for the entire block to be swapped out. They probably never had enough internal failures to get around to setting up a rebuild program for them.
