2003 V8 need reman motor, any good sources?

Yes, that's exactly it. Dealerships were told not to attempt internal repair (except for timing related, and oil pumps). Anything inside the block called for the entire block to be swapped out. They probably never had enough internal failures to get around to setting up a rebuild program for them.
I heard these were supposed to good engines, last to 300k, mine musta been pretty neglected on maintenance, only got about 168k on it.

LOL... your "driving style" probably didn't help either. (shrug).
Certainly not, but i only put a few thousand miles on it, been driving my f350 6.7 turbo diesel that way for 137k, and it's cranked up to 600hp. If she can't handle full throttle accelerations then she ain't worth a fuck to me, lol

tapits... LOL... I haven't heard that term used in decades. That guy is showing his age... and mine too. :)
Actually, tappets is the official term for them in the factory service manual.

Yes, the term has been around since the 1700s, but it is still valid, and newer engines still use the term, including my current (2018) car.

you can get bearings in a couple (factory) sizes that are known to fit the 3.9 crankshaft.

the rod bearings are the same between 4.0 and 4.2, should be the same with ford 3.9

notice how they’re color coded. on jag v8s the bearing codes are stamped next to the coolant drain plug, right above the left motor mount. this course tells you the basis of rebuilding and how to read your bearing codes

for the 4.2 swap you definitely need to swap the pickup rings on the back of each cam, or all camshaft and buckets.

you need to swap valve covers, intake and all accessories. i don’t know if the 4.2 engine has a hole for the CHT sensor (they use a coolant temp sensor) so you’ll have to get creative with that.

upper oil pan shouldn’t need to change, just swap the adapter boss (3 bolts) where the filter and sensors go

I'm waiting for batteries that last more than 8 to 12 years. $20K for batteries every ten years is a bit hard to swallow.
Yeah ...things are so much better now that the other side is back in the saddle...gas at 3.89 per gallon for 87 and Electric Cars are so economical on my budget SMH :(

Well i doubt he'll be reelected, only about 30% of the nutjobs still think he's doing a good job, haha, we need Trump back!

Just wait until North Korea (or China... or Russia) launch an EMP over us. You'll be wanting a 1972 Bronco at that point.

Yea I saw that too, that's why I'm gonna wait, they'll get it more streamlined eventually the once batteries are good enough to make it worth doing and people start doing it. Frankly I'm looking for 400 or more miles range before I'd even consider it for real. Long ways between plugs in North Dakota, ha

Keep in mind they did that conversion on an "old school" pickup truck. I don't think the LS will be very happy when it thinks all of its sensors, TC, ABS... and other electronics are missing.

And that number keeps falling.

I think that this Russia/Ukraine thing is all a bunch of "smoke and mirrors" to get whatever info Ukraine offered to Trump about Hunter... way back in 2016 when the Dems went on a "witch hunt" when Trump had those phone calls with Zelenskyy.

Well i may have found a decent junkyard engine, don't really wanna gamble like that but sadly seems to be my only option. i can either throw away 5k or spend another 4k, then my trans will assuredly go out next, then I'll spend another 3 or 4k, then i might have a decent car. Shit, i shoulda just got an mkz, ha!

While it's not practical to rebuild the engines, it is practical to rebuild the transmissions, so you can probably budget that one down to $2K to $2.5K.

4.4L LR/RR swap...go big or go bigger ;)
