Has anyone changed the plugs on their Mark 8?
I was thinking I would clean my plugs the other day as my mileage seems to have dropped off. I have about 76,000 miles. When I opened the hood, I realized that I can't even see the plugs or wires. There is a smaller plate held down by two nuts in the middle of the valve cover and I assume this is where they are. However I thought I had better find out what the procedure is first. Are there pictures or can anyone help with this (usually) simple task?
Regards,

No wires your car has COP... coil on plug.
Take the plate off you will see how to change the plugs.
DO NOT use Bosch plugs.

If you need pics do a simple search, there are many threads on the COPs

1. Remove ignition coil.

2. Remove the four LH spark plugs.

3. Remove four RH spark plugs. NOTE: AWSF-32E indicates the center electrode is enhanced with platinum. These are used in all 8 cylinders of the engine.
4. Clean spark plugs or replace as necessary.
5. Inspect firing tip; refer to System Diagnosis.
6. Check and adjust spark plugs; refer to Adjustments.

INSTALLATION
Follow the removal procedure in reverse order.

Thank you very much. That was really fast! I will look for the COP pics.

i agree with frogman, if i have everything apart and have em out...I'll spend the little extra and put new ones in

dont get the diamondfire e3s i thought they were great till i shoot on out of the hole and blew up a coilpack , now i have 22c i think and they work much better then the e3s anyway

motorcraft and motorcraft only in my fords...cheap as well, whatever it calls for is what i put in...

my 93 had bosch plugs before, and that along with a few other problems caused a stumble when i would open it up when cruising

Really ?!?!?! Ive had Bosch 3x platinum plugs on my Mark 8 since 2004 with no problems.

PULL THEM, PULL THEM NOW, any and all bosch plugs fail its not a matter of if, its more like when. ive seen this problem with the 1,2,3 and the 4 tip design

I had Bosch in my town car for all of 2000 miles and they came out looking horrendous. I'm using motorcraft plugs now and no problems, But I must say I do love Autolite Annie...

+1 I've seen plenty of cases where the ground strap just falls off for no good reason.

On my 95 I had one completely fall apart...and the others had signs of internal leakage of combustion gases, tracing up the spark plug.
you could SEE the internal combustion seal had failed..which is probably why they "fall apart" and blow the electrodes off.

Bosch's wouldn't even effectively "PLUG" the hole, much less provide dependable and accurate spark.

Motorcraft plugs all the way...

I refunded a couple when I worked at Autozone, but every time I hear of someone trying to talk to Bosch - nothin.
