Another $1600 in repairs? I have had about enough.

easier said than done!

Yes it is.

In selling this car at this point for some would mean they lost everything put into it and then some so why sell it? Its not worth much value after such a short period of time, that alone kills some of us.

Thats why Im not complaining and Im sticking with it. I have to, and it is in some peoples case the smartest thing to do, why sell a car a year after buying for less than half of what you paid especialy if it cost almost as much as you would get back from selling it in repairs alone? Drive it into the ground and save money for a new one in that time is really the best for for some of us, set it aside and just totaly mod the hell out of the thing once you do find a new car.

I disagree that a S430's repairs/parts are the same or cheaper than the LS. Personally know two people with S430's that had auto tranny issues around the 55k or so mark. BOTH repairs were in the 6k to 8k range.

The fancier the car, the more expensive the parts/repairs.

And that cars standards in Luxury for a Lexus over pass the LS's standards by ten times. Take any of those companies and compare the cars on the same level and even "some" on a "slightly" greater one and you will then understand. I know people also with LS430's 1 personal and a few here online ( I know its hard to just give them the benefit of the doubt ) that right from the show room dumped a ton of aftermarket into it cause of the fact they are so much more of a reliable car and not have to worry about putting more into it with servicing parts that should never fail.

That I also feel is not a good example cause as one says that you cant complain about a few problems here and there, cause it still is not as many as the LS and is not a anual break down as some of the parts breaking that just should never break once on a car.

To the OP, I hear ya. I will never buy a Ford or DC again unless its a Jeep Wrangler. Anyone who buys a Mercedes is buying it for the name. Paying $70000 for the star hood ornament because that's all they are worth with all of their trans and electrical/ecu problems, and it figures their resale parachutes even though they suck.(With the exception of the AMG hand built engines) And there is a reason Toyota, Lexus, Honda, and Acura and BMW are always at the top of consumer reports and American brands are at the bottom. GM is finally doing something right. Daimler and Ford have their heads far far far far far far far up their asses.

Selling these pieces are far easier said than done. By the time you fix all of the problems that go wrong, then resale it, your at about half of what you paid for it, give or take. I have owned nothing but American cars. This was my second and last Ford.

I've had one Plymouth, one Suburu, and all the rest Fords...This is my first Lincoln. I have installed Eibach's, and a K&N FIPK on my 04 LS, and have put on almost 10K mi., since April, and there isnt even a whisper of a problem.(still under 40K miles).
I drive "normally" 70%, "spirited" 25%, and "WFO" 5% of the time. I have had Fords where I put 40,ooo miles on them, driving the exact opposite of what I stated above, and rarely had major problems.
I am a stickler for preventative maintainance. I was told that the timing belts on the Suburu will go out at 70K, so I replaced them at 60K.
This is to be expected of machines that use imperfect materials, assembled by imperfect people.
To all of the pre-03(?) LS's, that have not replaced the gaskets, why not? You know that when they go, you will probably have to replace some expensive coil packs. The same can be said for the other things that are problematic.
Dont let the repair go, be pro-active, and save yourself some grief, by affecting these repairs, before they cause the expensive damage.
Have it visually inspected EVERY time it gets an oil change, you'd be suprised at what they(or you) can find by just keeping your eyes open...then, dont let it go!
I come from a auto service background, and have built MANY engines, and transmissions. Mostly FE fords, and C-6 tranny's.

The difference is, lexus, toyota, acura, and honda rarely break. So the fact their parts cost more is kind of irrelevant. I used to owned a 1990 toyota corolla, I bought it used. I don't know how many mile sit had, somewhere in the 100,000's when I bought it. I literally drove the :q:q:q:q out of that car, and drove it hard. After three years, the exhaust manifold broke and I had to get it fixed. The cost was like 300-400 bucks. I actually drove it for 5 or 6 months with a broken manifold. I only got it fixed because it was so loud and embarrassing. Yet every time I buy an American car, it has issues right off the bat. Hell, we rent American cars a few times per month at my job, every time we do, the F'ing things are breaking down and falling apart with 5,000-10,000 miles on them. There is just no excuse.

You can bet your ass a lexus isn't going to need new :q:q:q:qing coils at 35k miles because oil is leaking into the current ones. Or a new F'ing tranny at 80k miles. All this is just BS and uncalled for. It's happening because American car companies don't give a :q:q:q:q about their customers or product. Our American car companies deserve every bit of trouble they are in right now, plus some, for screwing their own countrymen for so many years. They have screwed me for the last time, that's all I know.

Almost all of those cars listed, that are sold in the US, are made in the US, by Americans.

Just get a Subaru if you want reliable, I've had over 2000 dollars in repairs for my LS, but god dammit I love my Lincoln and I would never sell it.

I would highly agree with this. If you what reliablity buy a subaru. I f#cking beat the sh!t out of my wrx. I used to race corvetes, mustangs, firebirds, camaros, and evos EVERYDAY. I broke 1 trany and burned a valve seat, thats it. The trany was my fault (6K cluch drop with a kevlar/ceramic cluch). The valve seat was because i was running 20Psi and race gas at the track with NO fuel mods (this was very stupid of me) So it went very lean. Other then that never had a problem with my subie. I even rally X it a couple of time and got it airborn a # of times.

Now for my LS, i love it. I did my own hand made exhaust and 20" rims. No other mods. I have had to replace the vavle cover gaskets and thats it. It has like 78,000 miles. It had 55,000 when i bought it. I drive it kinda hard. Not like a ricer kid, but hard. I am just now haveing a slight problem with it starting funny. I dont know what it is, but it always starts, just not always smooth starts. I will find out what it is and fix it. Its not a big deal cars break. Nothing perfect. some are worse then others. I will tell you if you want a good truck, buy a dodge with the cummins (bullit proof trucks). If you want a cheap eco car buy a civic VX hatch (40+ MPG). If you want a muscle car buy a mustang or firebird. If you want a great, quick, import sedan buy a subaru.
If you want a cheaper luxury car i think the LS is a dame good example. If you want HIGH end luxury car go buy a bmw, but sell it when the 0 cost maintence runs out.
I dont know every thing about cars but i do know that most "import" cars are really "made" here in america, so you can call "american" cars :q:q:q:qy because of the :q:q:q:qy workers but the "import" car are made by american workers. The american car are mostly made in mexico or canada. so its a toss up. It comes to what you want. so buy what you want.

If you want to compare a 1990 corolla to an LS, please don't do it here, go to a Ford Focus forum, 2 of my friends have focuses and a few others have had them, never any problems. If you are gonna talk about how :q:q:q:qty your LS is, or even how :q:q:q:qty "American" cars are, think of what you HAVEN'T done, you say your tranny blew out at 80k, how many times prior to the 80k mile mark did you have your transmission flushed? Did you ever take it in for routine service checks or look over it every once in a while? Did you buy the car brand new or was it used? You can't sit here and claim that the LS is garbage because you most likely neglected it and neglected the fact that cars break and a car that originally cost upwards of 40k will be expensive to repair.

Out of 262,900 Lincoln LSes, how many do you see on here complaining? Maybe a couple hundred? Every time I'm at the Lincoln dealership my LS is the only one there. You could have easily spent around $1200-2000 on a warranty if you couldn't afford to fork over the chunk of change that it is to repair this car. But you didn't, and now you blame it on the car.

I like how you think that those brands of cars don't EVER have problems, for one, both of the mercurys in my family NEVER had problems, and neither has the trailblazer besides a loud WOOSHING noise that turned out to be a vacuum leak(fixed under warranty at no cost, still no problems at 90k). My best friends dad has an 04TL that has already had a rebuilt tranny, and draining problems in his trunk, and at less than 35k on the clock, the buttons on the stock radio and steering wheel controls are already fading terribly. My cousin that just bought a brand new 07 TSX for some ridiculous amount of money already had it in for a loud rattling noise coming from the front of his car(that they havent figured out yet 5 days later, under 4k on the car).

I swear by imports but thinking they don't break is ridiculous.

every car breaks, thats a given, but the frequency and severity is a problem. it doesnt matter if your freinds mothers boyfreinds has a tl that has a rebuilt tranny, i can go on for days of horror stories from any brand. i listen as a whole, to consumer reports and msnbc reliabilty tests, and far far far many american cars have black in their circles than imports do having red. i am all for american cars but in general as a whole, there is no comparison that the asians and eurotrash are doing something right and us fat lazy americans, well our engineers are fat and lazy. doesnt really matter where a car is made, it matters the quality of parts and the engineering that goes into designing it. bmws are completely overengineered which is why idrive is ridiculous to use but bmws are the definition of german efficiency.

my cars trans is starting to go at 42k, i dont drive it hard at all. our family ford mechanic has known this cars history since it was purchased and even he said this car was thrown together with some of the :q:q:q:qtiest parts in fords parts bin. but i didnt really care since he takes care of everything for free. but i have had a coil go out literally 2 miles down the from the dealer after getting in back for the same exact thing. just a phenomenon of this car he said.

and sorry out of that 292,000 lincoln ls' ford wouldnt do an entire recall for the 03+ for the coils if it was just a "few complainers" they obviously realised this car is flawed enough that they will pick up the tab to fix it.

I don't even bother buying an aftermarket warranty they suck up here in canada. For lubrico you have to go to get your oil changed every 3 months through a lubrico shop, which is stupid because i change my oil. Typically they charge $70+ here. Plus i heard lubrico doesn't cover everything and they need all these documents before your claim even accepted. So i said fuk it and didn't even bother getting one. Only warranty i would get is a dealership warranty aftermarket one suck. Plus you gotta pay a deductable. So at 99,000km's which is 50,000miles or so still no problem car runs great.

Also what usually goes on these cars and whats a good way to prevent it. I'm hearing alot of coil, selenoid problems and valve problems. Can you guys explain please.

Don't know what to tell ya.

Over 2 yrs of owning. bought at 32k have 76+k now. Front brakes are my only repair. A/C filters, oil changes and choosing to mod don't really count.

I would suggest beating your car. I WOT all the time at least once a day and have around 130-150 1/4mile passes.

Edit: And 20s for those who think those hurt your car.

you ain't lying about beating your car. mines a 2000 model. the guy i bought mine from drove like an old lady, and the transmission slipped and acted stupid all the time. it done this everyday. man, when i bought it i drove the dog crap out of it and i swear after a few days the trans now acts like there's nothing wrong with it. that was about 30k miles ago. i told the guy it must have not been broken it. ha, who knows.

Hmm maybe i should go hard on my car...lol. But ya driving too slow could slipp the tranny i would say i drive at med speed not too hard, not too soft

I just haven't had the problems many do and do not baby this thing. I have to say the 02 year probably had most of the Gen1 problems worked out. I don't agree 03ups are more reliable as they seem to have their own problems.

Rear brakes are coming up real soon, no surprize they are original at 76k...good service there.

I'm going to change the plugs pretty soon and tackle the valve cover gaskets if they are leaking. I'm holding out for the GMS coil packs when they are available as long the stockers keep doing there thing they will be left till.

Lets see my trans went around 45k about 5,000 miles after the retune, I assume do to the extensive work it was flushed but only to just go again right after the suggested 60k mark ( therefore it must have been twice and it still feels like crap sometimes ). Oil changes at every 5-7k. I went in and had my 60k service done but that didn't stop my window from breaking 2 times. I forgot about the sun roof, is there a special annual service requirement for that? I never knew there was a need to replace the valve cover gaskets around 45k either, is that in the manual? I wish it was cause then I wouldn't have had my first COP problem.

How about the suspension issue. I guess the dealership has a service for that to, yeah its up on the board thats listing the cost of a oil change and trans flush along with the hydraulic fan pump hose's annual service and the cost of other general maintenance?

I have put almost 40K miles on my LS in the last 18 months. Minor problems only I am very satisfied. My friends Beemer required a dealer visit to check the oil since there is no dipstick. That will get expensive outside of warranty...

i was looking to get my wife a ls. not now.

Why not? Because you read a thread on the internet containing more complaints than posts saying "my LS is doing well/I dont have problems"? A thread of maybe 20 owners out of a couple hundred thousand owners?

You didnt take statistics in college..did you. ;-)
