Anyone interested in a custom heat shield if I make a few??

Probably a stupid question but will this shield work with the K&N CAI setup that comes with the half shield or whatever? I believe it's part 57-2562

This setup, so far, is for the gen1 with the MAF sensor housing. The heat shield will be sandwiched between the MAF housing and a MAF adapter that will need to be purchased separately. The K&N kit you have just has a hole in the heat shield that the intake tube fits thru. Not a very good design IMO but better than nothing.

I would buy one also if it was setup for the lsk tube... Pm when you get setup... thanks

I think Im the guy your roomate ran into at KCIR last summer in my gold '00. Im going to try and get G-RELL to come by on NOV 5th to measure up for the gen1 LSK tube. Maybe you could come by the same day and we can check out the gen2 options.

bingo thats me. Nov 5th sounds good i might have to work though ill keep ya updated

Ok, here is what I did tonite. I have the template made and it fits perfectly. I need to find a MAF adapter to fit correctly. The hole at the end of the MAF housing is 3 1/4" and all I could find locally is 3" and 4". The 4" will work but it needs to be re-drilled. I have been using the 4" on mine and it is fine but I want to find one you guys can order that fits perfect. Time to search the net

It looks like the intake tube and the air box are a single piece. This is different than the gen1 but it looks like they are in the same location so it is possible but it seems like the gen2 guys will have to fabricate some kind of intake tube to make it work

The tube has a strap that you loosen up and it pops off the upper piece. Either way, to fit that big-ass cone filter you have pictured, you would probably need a custom pipe or pipe and couplers. Other option is a smaller filter I guess.

I'm still all-in either way. I'll take one of something and make it work! :)

pm sent... yep i'll be there. My LSK tube is for the 1st gen. pretty sure my filter adaptor is 3 1/2'' but i'll measure.... looks good though.

I measured the factory MAF housing hole and its 3 1/4" into the housing and 3" out to the tube. I'll be searching for the right MAF adapter after the football game tonight.

I made the 1st prototype heat shield today after work. It turned out ok but there are a few minor changes I am going to make. The hole for the MAF housing will have to be about 3/4" lower to accomodate a larger variety of cone filters. However I am going to wait for the MAF adapter I ordered last night to get here before I relocate the hole to be sure it fits correctly. The 4" K&N filter I have hit the bottom of the hood when I shut it using the 4" MAF adapter I currently have. I'm getting closer fellas, be patient.

Ok, I just ordered a MAF adapter from amazon. It is a Spectre 8145.

That's the MAF adapter I am using.

How is the heat shield attached to the fender? It appears at this time it does not reach the mounting screw hole where the stock mount attached to the fender.

This shield is looking good! Good job!

Edit: I'd get one from you, but I am holding out waiting to get one of these (LSK type intake):

Thanks for the comments guys. One of the modifications I plan on is making the heat shield match up to the bolt hole for the factory air box. That way you wont have to drill any new holes.

LDM...does the Spectre 8145 match up to the factory MAF housing perfectly? And thanks for that link to the LSK type tube. I may order one of those this weekend. I have wanted one for a long time but with LSK being shady I never ordered one. The ebay one is also $30 cheaper and free shipping. On second thought, maybe not. They only have one listed. Their store has a few more but they come with a filter and brackets for $270.

Edit: I just emailed the seller asking if he will have anymore intake tubes only. I cant see paying another $100 for a filter and MAF adapter.

wow looks great, I would like one also if you can get it to work correctly with the lsk tube.

I'm sure I can get them to work with the LSK tube. I just need G-RELL to come by so I can take measurements. I may have to make a different one altogether to work with the LSK tube but I will do what I have to do.

Glad you will use existing bolt hole.

That ebay intake place gets those all the time without the filter and MAF. I have been in contact with them for a couple months...

The Spectre 8145 mounts to factory MAF perfectly. Here's some pics of mine mounted with the K&N RC-3600 Filter.

Thanks LDM, thats just the info I needed. Now I will know what MAF adapter to tell people they need to buy.

Either of these MAF adapters work on a Gen I (I am using the K&N RC-3600 Filter w/the Spectre 8145):

$15 Spectre Part# 8145 4" Small Ford MAF Intake Adapter (Autozone, O'Reillys, Amazon: might have to special order)

$40 KKM True-Rev MAF Adapter only (70MM Adapter): http://www.kustomz.com/components.html
