Going off the other thread has anyone upgraded their audiophile system? Is it possible to change the 2 6x9 subs to regular 6x9's & then add a bass tube or something off the factory amp?

probably but its probably more work then its worth. you could change the speakers but you would have to add either an additional amp or an aftermarket radio as the signal those wires get are already crossed over to sub frequencies....anything can be done to the car i mean its just a lincoln, you can fit a double din, aftermarket speakers aftermarket amps and subs and headunits

im also thinking about the same thing but a little different. My LS has nothing in the rear deck(so im guessing i have the basic sound system). But i have just found my same LS in a junk yard and it has the speaker. So im currently get the door speakers since they have the tweeter in them. But when i go back i plan on getting the rear deck with the speaker holes, as well as the speakers and amp. But im get a box with two 10". So should i keep the 6 by 9 subs or just put regular speakers???

This has been covered plenty of times but here in my take on it. I was going to do the same thing. I just put put my second system in my LS last week. I went with the new JL audio HD900/5 amp that drives the fronts, rears and subs and the JL audio w6 pro wedge box (see attach photo). I have Infinity Kappas 6x8 in the doors and an Avic F90 Navi. I decided to go back with another sub in the trunk instead of the 6x9 subs. So if that's the route you are going, it don't make sense to put the 6x9 sub in the rear deck if you are going to put a sub in the trunk because the bass of the sub will drown out the sound from the small subs. To me adding an sub was easier then trying to cut holes, fitting etc for the rear deck. Just my two cents. See the attach link for my Navi install also.

Well I just really want the rear deck speaker cover and put regular 6 by 9. So I can make it look stock, instead of cutting two holes in my rear deck. And can you explain your part when you say the bass of the sub will be drwon out from the smaller speakers

What I meant was if you was putting 6x9 subs in the rear deck, you wouldn't probably notice them if you had a sub in the trunk. The bass of the sub in the trunk would more than likely be louder than those 6x9 subs. Are you trying to put two or three way speakers in the rear deck?

When I installed my single 10 I removed the factory speakers in the rear deck.

It made a world of difference on the sound that made it into the cabin.

All I did was change out the head unit for the Double DIN Kenwood. Love it. Plan to do the speakers next.....just have to make a decision about the brand. Have it narrowed down to a few....

if you really want to put full range 6x9's in the rear deck and you dont want to install a aftermarket amp to drive them, then you could re-route the speaker wire from the rear doors to the rear deck and leave the factory rears unhooked since they are in a bad place to get good sound from them anyway, other wise just get the factory subs and install them unmodified (most cars that do not have them do still have the plug for them back there) or put in your own sub woofer but i would not waste time with both (factory subs and aftermarket subs)

What I plan on doing is cutting out the rear shelf area completely where the rear subs go. Then cover that with a 6x9 grille. Another member did that, and said it's like having the rear seat folded down.

i just took out the factory subs, the holes they leave are plenty big enough

MIne doesn't have the subs in it. I have everything taken out of there, but there's still the hardboard and carpet there. You don't think removing that will make a difference?

my first gen still had the big square factory grills with steel mesh, that flowed very well, and my 2nd gen doesn't have grills above the subs, but instead the rear deck if very porous (for lack of a better description) and seems to flow very well

for instance, if you where to take the rear deck lid out and put a light behind it, you can clearly see where the subs play through it as the cardboard has holes in it (kinda like a mclearing grill) with carpet glued over it.

can you explain what you mean by what is the measurement of the opening

He meant the distance between the trunk floor to the top of the 6x9 shelf. This will determine how tall of a box yo can put in there. Look at the picture from NYC LS8. There's your example. I would say a ten inch subwoofer will fit in that space.

I have fit a 12 in there but it took me a while to find a box that will fit. I think the opening measures 13-14 inches from the bottok of the trunk to the cover, but reduces a little towards the back maybe to 12.

Is there space for a normal 10" sub box to fit under the 6 by 9 molding

if you mean under the factory subs, then yes, you might have to build it your self (or have it built for you), so that you can make it less tall and wider.

if your talking about under the rear deck with the subs removed, then its very easy as i have two 15's under there

That's a lot of bass you got there. But also because I will not be using the black cover under the factory subs I should be able to get a normal box
