Ok...2005 Lincoln Ls8...Changed out degas bottle, thermostat housings, and upper and lower radiator hoses....Car is not overheating...When I first start the car fan is off till it gets to normal operating temp....but fan does not cycle on and off and stays on high (really loud). It does turn off when I turn the heater on...Before replacement of cooling parts never had that problem....I'm stumpped....Can anyone help???

Ok.... Imma gonna TROLL in this thread, fair warning!

Coolant forcing out hose...2005 Lincoln LS 3.9

In your other thread, you replaced a .... wait a second, in your other thread ?

I had such high hopes for you ... try re-bleeding the system until you are blue in the face,
if not you still have a leak and there is air in the system.

The temp. gauge on the dash means nothing until you are overheating and you end up in fail-safe mode with the LS.

Repeat the bleed procedure. you may have to do this several times.

You are contradicting yourself. It is overheating.
Fan on high indicates overheating.
The gauge won't rise past the halfway mark until you are really in trouble. Connect a scan tool and you will see that head temperature and/or coolant temperature is too high.

Anytime you have cooling problems and turning on the heater helps them, you know that you don't have good coolant flow or air flow through the radiator.

Your symptoms are classic. You did not correctly bleed the cooling system to the letter of this procedure.

Bleeding the system

So since I replaced the upper and lower hoses I have no leaks....Bleed the system, but noticed no pressure when I took the reservoir cap off....So do I need a new reservoir cap?

Depends but keep in mind every time you release pressure via the degas bottle you get to do the bleed procedure once more.

If the engine was just luke warm, don't expect a lot if any back pressure from the degas bottle cap,
now if it was running hot and you popped the cap .... yeah, stand back Brother !

Do please note the very last step in the bleed procedure,
After the engine has cooled, add coolant to the degas bottle to bring the level to the cold fill MAX mark.

Leave the Degas bottle alone and burp the cooling system via the bleed line, get the air out, open it until
a steady stream runs down, close it, rev the car some more with the heat on MAX, burp it some more (carefully)
Don't open the Degas bottle until it's cooled down, if you need to refill it to the cold line.

If you cap is not holding pressure when it's hot, you'll know it !

Here: How To Bleed A Cooling System - EricTheCarGuy - YouTube

have a look at that, he explains it pretty well, youTube if full of self-help "bleed the cooling system" videos.

hope that helps ya !

You still have a leak somewhere. It could be the cap, but it probably is not.

I have a leak now too.... It's always something with this car ;)

If it's any consolation, I have a leak on my 04 that is driving me crazy. I can see the coolant, and I think/thought I knew where it was coming from. This weekend I'm going to rig up a pressure tester and try to really find the source. (It's a small leak so the system is working and pressurizing.)

Well.............No pressure even when the car has been on for awhile....So back to the auto parts store to buy a cap.....Hopefuuly wont leak once it pressureized....:mad: I will let you all know what happens........

do you have a factory degas bottle or a doorman. the doorman is actually smaller than the factory so if you buy another cap it probably wont fit. this happened to me and I had to learn it the hard way. if you doorman just get the factory one. I had this same issue so I just got the oem degas bottle and that worked.

Don't think it a doorman.....Before I installed it matched it to the old one...But I will double check.....Thanks....

Mine is the thermostat housing... Just had someone look at it

Housing itself ? cracked ?

I have to get my "stuck" fill cap off and I fear the outcome.
likely will result in some sort of catastrophic failure/damage of the PVC housing.

I bought a new cap but that's like buying a rabbits foot.

Maybe look into the Jag replacement ?

Joegr, what would be your best bet in getting a stuck Engine Coolant Fill Cap off ?

I mean ... I tried, by hand and by Allen key, I'm no slouch, that thing is on there good.

In this case of the fill cap, it is lefty loosy, righty tighty ?

Maybe try it again when the engine is warm, I tried while it was stone cold ???

Yep, counter clockwise.
Plan on it breaking when you remove it.
When you replace it, it may be time to switch to the metal Jaguar parts.

Think it will just break at the cap itself or the hard twisting motion will destroy the housing ?
Is this a known/common issue ?

~ crap!

Yup, common. Like all the plastic parts getting brittle and falling apart, this was the only one where they were crazy enough to put threads on it.
The cap will break. The top few threads on the housing may break off. The housing may also crack vertically depending on what exactly happens.

The Jag parts are easily bought through RockAuto.

That's sad to hear, this wasn't suppose to be part of the problem.
thanks!
