"corvettes vs mark VIII's"

I only had $10,000 in my Stang, by FAR the most bang for the buck car you can own. where else can you get 1g handling for that little of cash?

There is no car with the performance-per-dollar of a Mustang. You'll get no argument from me.

I'm just saying that a claim of an SVO being a vette-killer is a bit much. Like them or not, Corvettes are very competent sportscars.

Paul.

your certainly entitled to your opinion and I respect that. I just think that most vette owners are dicks. and whenever I pull up next to one and the idiot driving looks at me like "I'm driving a Corvette and your not" I take great pleasure in showing him the taillights. :D hey turborich heres a couple of pics of my 87 Turbo Coupe the day before and the day after it got totaled by an idiot that ran a red light, damn near killed my wife. Thank you Ford for making some of the safest cars on the road. this car was struck by a 98 crew cab 1 ton chevy railroad truck that goes up and down the tracks. probably weighed 10,000 to 12,000 lbs at least.

You are 100% - most vette owners are dicks. I take great pleasure in annhilating a vette when the opportunity presents itself.

That being said - I would love to own a new Z06. I would also love to put an LS7 in a Mustang coupe. I am a sick individual like that.

Still just a vette.

I'll give a little credit to the latest vettes and z06s, they really have stepped it up from some of the pathetic vettes that were around for a while. The 84 vette was recognized as being a real pile. I personally wouldn't own any of them, just not my thing.

Funny thing about the only 84 Vette, first Vette to pull 1g Stock on the skid pad, yet had the worst Engine!! :D :shifty:

I have the best of both worlds, I have both a Mark VIII and a Vette. I have a 1993 Lincoln Mark VIII with a cat-back exhaust, which at her best did a 14.3@98MPH. I also have a 2002 MN6 Vette that I've managed to run a 13.3@107 (stock).

I've owned the Mark for almost 10-years now and its got 223,000 miles. The car has always been blast to drive and was always one of the quicker marks.

The Mark is no where near as fast as my new baby.......

Now look at NYC LSC's sig where he ran a 13.5 in his 4000lb pig...thats about to get a blower in the upcoming weeks. .2 seconds is not bad when you consider the money into each car and the aerodynmaic DISADVANTAGE the VII has over both mark viii's and vettes.. Theres mark vii's and viii's with 8 second 1/4 mile times. So what why is everyone getting pussy hurt?

No offense to ken or any other vette owners, they sure are pretty and quite quick stock but have ALL of you forgotten ANYTHING can be made to outrun ANY stock car ANY day?? All it takes is time and money. This entire thread is about as pointless as racing your supras from a roll and drifting.

PS. Mark VII's OWN suckas!!!!

107mph is good for mid 12s with the proper traction..
And thats not even as fast as the newest models.
No stock MK ever made will even get close to that..
And then at the end of the track the Vette will out turn and out brake
the MK,, I think Vette owners disck too for the most part but
there is NO WAY you are putting a MK in the same class unless
you go back to the late 70s/early 80s to the slowest/worst vettes ever made.
The last few years Vettes are built from the ground up as a sports car.
The MKs are luxury cars with "sporty" touches.

Important note, after an hour in a Mark VIII, most women don't have an urgent need to pee. (Kidney Buster)

NICE cars turborich!!!  yes both of my Fox's had T-Bird Turbo Coupe suspensions under them. this gives them a 2 inch wider track in the front and 1.5 wider in the back as well as rear disc brakes and the overall better brakes that the bird had and since I used automatic tranny equipped donor cars, I got 373 gears as well . my stang was the most heavily modded suspension wise with all kinds of aftermarket upgrades and with the Bridgestone RE71R roadrace compound tires 245/45/16's it would achieve .98-1g lateral acceleration. SVO's RULE!!!! these cars were designed for a 4 banger and they do handle the best without all the weight of a V8 on the front tires. I had Motorsport aluminum heads on my stang which helps alot. here's a couple of pics of my 83.5 GT.

I like your stang, capri and that turbo coupe. I think that ford really made some great fun cars back in the day. I sold my turbo coupe to one of my friends, That was 2 years ago and it still runs like a champ at 18 psi. I really liked the SVO due to it's rare factor, it actually ran pretty hard too. I just didn't find it to be all that comfortable and Then I ran across my mark VIII. For some reason I liked the mark a lot more and I lost interest in the SVO, so I sold it. There will always be another one though someday. My wife had a 83 GT that we built the engine up a bit along with full length headers, true duals, 3.73 gears, 93 cobra t-5 trans and a few other goodies. That got sold when our son was born. I also had my own 83 gt, 82 gt, 79 pace car, etc. They are great cars!!!!!!!!!! Fun and fairly cheap to go fast in. Hold on to that capri! It looks like it's in really good condition. You will get some $$$ for that one day. I really liked your stang, that was a beauty!

AS FAR AS VETTES GO..... I just don't care for em all that much. Yes the new ones are bad ass but I'd rather have a new shelby gt500 or a lightning. Like I said before my friend bought an 87 vette and he paid $10 grand for it. It has a salvaged title as well. (his mistake) anyways he kept telling me how fast it was and how it could whip anything on the street, when my (old man car) the mark VIII hung right beside him he didn't know what to say. The 80's vettes are not all that. And my car always starts and drives down the street, his vette leaves him stranded a lot! Yes- two different classes of cars. I would rather have a new GTO than a vette! Just not my thing!

My Mark VIII will take any corvetter for the simple fact that I will crash into them and total there car and barely put a scratch on mine... Anybody wanna race for titles? I'll race any of your vettes in my Town Car that I don't give a :q:q:q:q about... Bring it bitches

my semi-light MOD Mk8 runs 0-60 in 6.5 flat (radar tested, 3 run average)
so i am guessing i would run a 14.8 on a cool day

Surprisingly this is not true with the newer Vettes (C5 or C6) anymore. I did not purchase my Vette as a daily driver or as a comfort vehicle (or to be the fastest car out there, It is not). But, I did drive it 600 miles from Ohio to NJ with my wife to pick it up, and it was surprisingly comfortable for both of us.

Like I said, I have the best of both worlds having a Mark VIII and a Corvette. I will tell you that I lay a lot more rubber in the Mark VIII as the tires cost 1/3rd the amount (1/6 if you factor in the open rear in the Mark vs. the limited slip in the Vette). :)

For what I paid for my barely used C5 Vette I could have got a new Mustang GT convertible, a used older Mustang Cobra, or a New GTO...........to me is wasn't really a choice.

btw - even if i spent all the money i did on the Vette to Modify my Mark VIII, I STILL wouldn't have the fastest Mark VIII...........although it would be damn fast. :)

just to toss this out there. my uncle has been a hard core vette owner. he has owned new vettes since he has been 25 now in his 50s.
3 weeks ago he received his 06 zo6 vette he ordered. this thing is :q:q:q:qing sick. just stupid fast fun to drive. but on the other hand it is very uncomfortable. even at 25 my back is shot already, and after about 20 minutes my back is screamin. yes the vette is fast but yet just not that cool in my books and it looks to much like a viper to me

Yeah, they really did a nice job re engineering the Vettes. They tried very hard to make the car perform great, yet still appeal and sell to women too.

Wow, this is one seriously Jacked up thread.

That's what's great about the internet... When it's not a technical, help, thread, it's good to see where the conversation evolves to.

watched a guy on barret jackson buy a 67 427 vette ($350,000) for his daugters 16th birthday present...........mad me f'in sick.

i absolutly love my uncles 06 z06 it is so damn fast but the comfort thing is the issue the seats suck in my opinion

I could see the new C6 Z06 having a bit of a rough ride. I haven't had the pleasure of being in one yet.

For my C5 I have the 'base' suspension. It actually is a little mushy. There is a sport suspension option (Z51). I guess that makes mine more comfortable.......but slower around a track. To get the best of both worlds they offer what is called magnetic ride, which gives the driver the ability to switch firmness of the suspension.......it never gets as firm as the Z06 or even Z51 though.

This is probably more information than any Mark VIII owner needed to know about a Corvette. :)

Ken

the base suspension is on the soft side but I don't know of very many people that have the base suspension. I have rode and driven {never owned any, never will.} many vettes. all years including C5's and C6's. and only 1 had the base suspension. all the rest were kidney busters. :D

Well no matter what if you consider the money you can buy a gutted car and make it completely custom and fast as :q:q:q:q for cheaper then it would cost you to buy a new base model vette And it would be faster and look nicer Just my opinion though!
