Hey NathanTroy
I also have a 400+ hp Camaro.
It's a S/C 97 A4 LT-1 Vert and a bit louder(!) under WOT than the LS but now I only take it out on nice days
and to scare the g/f now wife booting off a light.
It's like a controlled explosion!!! LOL!

Here's what I just ordered from Intake Hoses.com to make mine similar to 02V8Sport's and loud00ls' set-ups:

C40B-350X3 Silicone Sleeve 3.5" ID X 3" Long - Gloss Black (2)
434-446PE Aluminized Steel Elbow 4" OD X 90 Degree Short Radius - One Longer Leg (1)
AL35X4 Aluminum Intake Tubing 3.5" OD X 4" Long (1)
64060 Stainless Worm-Gear Clamp for 3.5" ID Hoses (4)

Along with that, I plan on cutting off the 2 silencers much like 04SCTLS did.

Should be here hopefully before next weekend so I can work on it then. I'll have pics when it's all said and done.

I can't wait to see pictures of your settup. I would like to do something similar with mine. I have the KKM on it right now but would love to move the filter element to outside the engine compartment. I am thinking with similar pieces I can do just that.

Parts won't be here until the 22nd. :(

And I hope I mis-typed that 4" pipe part of the list. If I didn't, I'm screwed because the other stuff I bought with it won't fit. *d'oh*

Well, maybe for next year's season I'll add a few elbows and parts but I was just wondering if the extra pipiing toned down the engine note.
Mine is open right next to the TB and with the silencers cut off adds more to the way the car sounds then the Mina Jag Mufflers.
Now with the colder weather and the winter coming I don't think ther'll be much if any improvement adding more piping.
I think I'll go with just a heatshield first.
When you guys get done doing your setups let us know how it sounds.

I had this setup on mine since my 02 LS and now I have it on my 04. It doe tone down the sound a lot to get the filter out of the engine bay. If you get snow it is not a great idea to have the filter out of the bay, the salt and wetness will kill the filter as it did mine. I just put the filter back in the engine bay for the winter. It doesnt make much of a difference when its freezing cold out anyway.

Agreed!

I'm mainly doing this for the big shootout in Georgia in a couple of weeks. When I get back, I'll just leave the regular KKM hooked up until Spring time.

If you view my photo gallery you can see the build of my cai and ram air I guess you could call it..

I made it out of 3" 1/16"wall aluminum tubing and 3" thin wall pvc elbows, two 3" Fernco rubber boots for pvc. if you built it all out of pvc you could glue the elbows and coupling on but I used aluminum pipe so I had to hose clamp the pipe in the fittings kinda gives it that tunner look though, I like it sounds awsome and added a lot of pull to the power range on the car It just pulls and dont stop. kinda like an old big block car...

Well, I got my stuff from IntakeHoses.com. First, they screwed up my address and I had to call UPS to straighten it out. Then they screwed up on the worm clamps that I ordered, so I emailed them and they're sending out the correct ones - at no charge - that should be here by Friday. Sh*t happens, and I understand that, so all is well.

Eventually, I'm going to buy a 45 degree piece that goes from the throttle body to the MAF housing and have two fittings welded on to mimmick the stock set-up, but that'll come at a later date.

Hopefully I can get to fabbing this up this weekend and my next reply here is of some pictures. Never know what problems I'm gonna run into converting my old '95 LSC to coils, so...keep your fingers crossed.

Didn't quite work out as I'd hoped.

First off, the 4" pipe makes for a tight fit especially with that bracing in the way. I did my best to bend it out of the way, but with working on it at my apartment, I'm limited in the tools I can use.

Secondly, the filter sits FAR too low to the ground for a car that's kinda daily driven and driven in the rain. I'm going to have to get another 90 degree piece to make the filter go towards the bumper instead of the ground.

I AM going to run the pipe through the fender with no air filter when I run the car at the track. I also plan on picking up a 45 degree piece to replace the stock rubber tubing off the throttle body and have two fittings welded on to accomodate the vacuum lines.

With the 6" piece of 3.5" pipe, I was able to move the filter a little further away from the engine, which will hopefully help a little bit. The second worm clamp closer to the MAF housing is to hold the brace that comes with the KKM.

Wish it would've worked out. Sure looked cool going through the fender!

MaroonLS: That's exactly what I'm doing and it looks great! What are the dimensions of the shield?

You don't really need to route anything to it. Judging by the IAT readings from my ScanGaugeII, once the car gets moving, the air entering the engine is the same as whatever the outside air temp is. All you really need to do it block off the filter from the extremely hot engine air and you're all set. Like I mentioned in my ScanGaugeII thread, intake air temps I've seen on an 88 degree day were almost double the outside temperature while sitting at a light. Insanity.
