Now that's an LS that I would consider owning!

People are doing crazy things with the 2 valve motors. I just read an article in Super Rod about a 2 valve Kenne Bell equipped motor that was cranking out soem serious HP. From a baseline run of 260HP and 345 ft/lbs of torque, they managed an impressive 407HP (N/A) BEFORE the Kenne Bell. Bolting on the KB added 163HP to bring the total to 570HP! All on a stock wrecking yard short block.

I have a customer that is willing to let NOTHING stand in the way of a Supercharged LS8 dream that he has.

He has found a wrecked Supercharged Jag that he is negotiating price with as I write this.
He wants us to swap out the engine/trans, computer and needed wiring to the LS.

Should be neat, I hope he gets it.

can someone educated me real quick, i am kinda starting to learn about the mechanical partrs of casrs now but I really dont know anything yet. Can you tell me what 2 valves as compared to a regular engine?

Every car has a minimum of 2 valves per cylinder, one for intake, one for exhaust. Some higher performance engines use 4 valves, 2 valves each to increase the surface area of the cylinder. The more air that can get in per piston stroke, the more power the car can make. So typically, a 4 valve car can make more power than a 2 valve car.

2 valve explanation

First off 2 valve has been the norm for many years, but that was generally a 2 valve, overhead valve engine with standard rocker arms and pushrods.

In current speak, 2 valve is a 2 valve per cylinder ( 1 intake and 1 exhaust ) and an overhead cam with cam followers that directly actuate the valves and adjustment is performed with lash caps ( a form of shims ).

There are also multivalve engines 3v, 4v and 5v and more from many manufacturers, Ford uses 4 valve dual overhead cam engines in the Cobra and Lincoln LS among others. With multivalve engines your whole valvetrain can be lighter and although the valve diameter is smaller than a 2 valve engine you have more surface area with 3 or more valves even though the valves themself are smaller they will move more air ( an engine is really just an air pump )

I'm not a mechanical engineer and my description may not be perfect, but I've donated enough skin and blood to the cause to know that this is essentially correct.

Thanks,

John V. (Jay) Bailey

so why would people be going crazy over the 2 valve engines (like onebadmk8 said) if engines with more valves will move more air? Am I not getting something?

also, can someone tell me why, with all the power they put it, why they didnt throw in a 5 or 6 speed manual transmission and stuck with a 4 speed auto?

Team LS didn't have time to modify the transmission. It was slated for a 6 speed manual. If this car ever came to fruition it would be offered in a 6 speed manual. Here's a list of the car specs:

This is a re-cap of today's first event:

In case you missed the first day's results, the OLOA LS placed 4th overall behind: 1.) Porsche 911, 2.) Porsche 911 C2 and 3.) Porsche 911 GT3. The LS pulled .912 Gs in the Wet Skid Pad run and earned 395 points. The Porsches pulled .93, .928 and .915 Gs respectively. Needless to say, the LS is ranked first in its class at this point.

The two CTS-Vs in competition ranked 30th and 33rd overall.

Imagine the face on the Cadillac and Subaru team.

:p
:p
:p

wow Lincoln is fainlly making a big move! its about time. And wow, 3 porsches and like emril would say BAM! a LS!!!!! :p :p and that is great, a Roush stage 3 engine!!!! its given me goosebumbs just thinking of all that power in an LS!!!! thats mroe than twice than what i have in it now!!! :p :p

Okay, so the first day was a Wet Pavement Skid Pad test. That is a test of your tires more than anything else when the skidpad is wet.

Yesterday, they hit the track at Heartland Park.

In round one the top 5 were:

1 49 Mitsubishi Evo MidPri Sed 5:03.183 410
Paul Gerrard,
2 25 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 SSGT1 BB 5:10.751 405
Dan Corcoran, Kyle Corcoran
3 4 Porsche 996 TT SSGT1 BB 5:10.887 400
Mark DaVia, Drew Wikstrom
4 1 Dodge Ram 1500 S U V 5:13.026 395
Ronald Adee, patrick adee
5 3 Porsche 911 GT3 SSGT1 BB 5:13.292 390
David Murry, Royal Ford

I don't know what a Ram 1500 (not even an SRT-10)is doing up there in the standings, but that has to be one impressive truck. Dodge's own Viper came in at 11.

As for our boys?

18 43 Cadillac CTS-V Luxury Sed 5:28.192 325
John Bender, Reed Kryder

46 44 Cadillic CTS-V Luxury Sed 5:55.962 185
Reg Noble, Vic Regalado, Bill Unwin

64 59 Lincoln LS MidPri Sed 6:10.310 95
Chet Dhruna, Matthew List, Jaime Venezia

Also notice that the LS is in the Mid-priced Sedan class and not the Luxury Sedan class like the V's. They're really not competing with each other (and how did Lincoln get in that class?)

Heartland Park - Round 3

The top 5 were:

1 2 Dodge Viper SSGT1 BB 4:55.177 410
David Zelkowski, Brian Smith
2 3 Porsche 911 GT3 SSGT1 BB 4:57.579 405
David Murry, Royal Ford
3 49 Mitsubishi Evo MidPri Sed 4:58.435 400
Paul Gerrard,
4 4 Porsche 996 TT SSGT1 BB 5:01.142 395
Mark DaVia, Drew Wikstrom
5 8 Chevy Z06 SSGT1 BB 5:01.972 390
Rodney Sizemore, Rick Sizemore

The ones that matter ;) :

16 43 Cadillac CTS-V Luxury Sed 5:22.675 335
John Bender, Reed Kryder

46 44 Cadillic CTS-V Luxury Sed 5:47.444 185
Reg Noble, Vic Regalado, Bill Unwin

72 59 Lincoln LS MidPri Sed DNS/DNF 0
Chet Dhruna, Matthew List, Jaime Venezia

The Lincoln is slipping and I'm starting to wonder if the guys in the #44 CTS-V can drive...
Does anyone know what modifications have been done, if anything, to the competing CTS-Vs?

It looks like Team Lincoln dropped out of the event... :(
Also, what is up with the V times? The 3.6L V6 CTS could run down the strip that fast. We should be seeing 13's.

I believe the LS was having over heating problems. When they installed the Roush motor they kept the LS radiator so I'm thinking it's not cooling right.

Will it be back then, or does not competing disqualify it? Also, can the cars be modified midway through the series?

thats funny that someone is putting a 4.0 S/C AJ V-8 into a LS I asked the same question a few posts down in Lincoln Q's from a Caddy guy. I would think more people would have done or be doing the swap by now.

It's not the Jag motor.

didnt they put a 4.6? the ls already comes with a 3.9 :steering

The reason sometimes people go for something like a 2v vs a 4 or 5 valve or a sohc or ohv vs a dohc is simplicity. The technologies can be more efficent and provide more power but are also more complicated. Also many of those "h.o." motors are also higher maintnance. I.e. the yamaha motor in the sho's are supposed to have the lifters checked and if needed reshimmed at 60k as well as a timing belt is also a good idea around that mileage as well on that type of engine. Not necessary but a good idea. Or the northstar cadi uses is a nice, powerful motor, but may shops won't work on it due to its complication.

the ls does come with a 3.9, but if lincoln is putting in wrong sized radiators i dont think they could handle tweaking the 3.9. So why not throw in something someone else has already tweaked. I think thats the motor in the roush stage 3 mustang.

Whoops, I've been slacking on the updates. Here is what has been happening all week:
