OK someone please tell me that when I put on tips my car be little bit more quite, it is very loud. All I did is cut out the mufflers and omg its loud, what u guys due and what do u recommend.

Drive it like you stole it!!!

If its to loud, then you may want to put on some low restriction muffs, to get the sound down to your liking.

I heard that when u put on tips it controls sound little better, im getting a ear ach from the fn drone it has right now under slow accel. oh yeah is this illegal? I had like 5 ppl tell me im a idiot at my school for cutting out the mufflers but I was like it has 3 cats and a resonator so it passes the sniffer, but idk u think cop give me :q:q:q:q and whats your guys experience with cops when it comes to exhuast?

Your "local Area Having Jurisdiction" would have the only correct answer for you to concern yourself with. No muffs and you run the great chance of cops pulling you over to "hassel" you for being a "nuisance". Especially if you find yourself out late at night or around youthful populated areas. (ie. mall, movie theater) Perhaps a 2 in 2 muffler may aid in the drone/resonance relief. There are many posts about this subject that can be found under a quick "search". At last count, 2 fellas on the site like the sound of straight pipes.

funny you should ask, i just got pulled over today because i dosconnected my muffler right before the gas tank. (you wanna talk about loud, it sounds like an ls1!!) but he said it has to be atleast behind your back seat to be legal (i did not know that) but he was cool and let me off.

Yeah it is loud and it seems like its getting louder? So what we did was illegal then? I see so many marks with no mufflers and tips in there place. Would a glass pack right behind the resonator and tips out the back sound good? And one last thing that no one is answering, does puting in tips make it quiter, I would think it would control the sound a little better instead of no tips, idk. Does this effect gas mileage or power at all, wow I have so many questions, lol.

tips does make it quieter (atleastthe ones i used did,) i used like a 45' slant tip,

also its not illegal to not have mufflers, its jsut illegal if there not coming out far enough!!

Tips do not help you in performance, MPG or power. Its bling, pure and simple. There is tremendous info out there about the benefits of a free flowing exhaust for the track. Least amount of restriction for street is the best.

Your gasoline engine is best described as an air pump. The more air you get in and the more air you get out, the better the effieciency and thus, better the performance. All of that as the price of fuel consumption. After all, you must maintain an adequate air/fuel mixture. However, the more effiecient you are at part throttle, the better the gas mileage. So there is your savings.

With that in mind, a better exhaust note, is up to you. Its sounds like you maybe a muffler guy as the louder the note, the harder it is on your ears. Try borla or magnaflows. Again, run a search on the site and see what other fellas have asked and answered to help you the direction you want to go.

Im saying tips to make it quiter, I understand my fualt not being specific lol. So now that there out Ill c a better gas mileage becuase it has less restriction thats what I thought. Is there any down fall to having no mufflers? Also Im glad to hear It gets quiter with tips how much can u describe the deference from no tips to tips, i mean liek exterior sound, interior, what all became quiter?

If you want, I'll order you some Magnaflows, probably 4" round muffs would do the trick. Check out the price you can get and then hit me with a PM and I'll tell you what I can get them for. Also specify if you want the SS ones. I think they are like $10 more each. Don't quote me on that though.

I running 2-4" right after the 3rd cat and 2-3" at the rear and it is sweet. No drone and you get to keep the stock exhaust. All polished by the way, from cat back.

For you I would go with the 4" at the rear to start. When I went with the 3" by themselves, I had too much drone which is why I went with the 4" after the cat.

half you guys cry like girls, I have it dumped right ater the cats and wait till I get the LTs

maybe a small tone change ! but quiter I don't think so.

I did the same thing. Cut the mufflers off and had tips welded on. It's pretty loud in the car. It's not so much the sound of the exhaust exiting as it is the drone in the car. It's worst from like 2-4k. Lower than that sounds good and rumbly and higher that that almost seems to quiet a bit. I don't think tips/no tips would affect the sound level much. Just floor it all the time and you'll love it. Especially when your engine backs off at high RPM before it shifts, the sound is nice.

Exactly, its under slow acc. the drone. So how u guys do with cops? One guy allready said he got in trouble how bought the rest of u guys? I really appreciate this I love this site nothing better then talking to others who own marks and other great cars, thanxs.

I cut my mufflers off my 94 and they are not that loud, just a bit louder than my 95 that has only a Magnaflow Muffler where the resonator sits (no rear mufflers).

I did put tips on my 95 and they did quite it a little. The tips did have a resonator inside.

The Dual tips I put on my 94.

I was going to cut the mufflers off my 94 - I'd even driven around and checked a few places for a piece of pipe to weld in place of the mufflers. Then I was told that the quad cam 4.6 is a motor that requires a certain amount of back pressure, and that cutting out the mufflers would reduce back pressure and could rob the car of low-end torque and horsepower. I decided I'd rather have faster/quieter than louder/slower. Did any of you who removed the mufflers experience a drop in performance?

Who makes those dual tips. Dang it, now you got me wanting to do it to my 94.:D

Thanks,

I was told the exhaust has to exit from under the car away from the passenger area....
This was to prevent CO2 from entering the cabin area, (makes sense)
As far as the noise level, I think they can pretty much stop you anytime they feel like, there probably is a set decible but...

I really havent noticed a lost in power how about the rest of u? and how about top end power were are cars pull the best anyone c a decrease in power there, Fuel economy?

Legally you dont have to have mufflers depending on your area i think you would be fine with just the tips and no mufflers. Ive been driving around with just the exhaust exiting under the car for the last week cause i replaced my fuel pump and when i took the flange off the tailpipe to resinator the flange broke. It sounds pretty cool and everyone who hears it likes it but it hurts my ears inside the car. You will be fine driving with tips as long as its exiting out of the back of your car. You could legally run side exhaust also but the law requires it to exit right before the rear wheel so co2 cant enter the car when driving.

I've passed cops many times. What I do is while I'm passing I just barely get on the gas so the engine stays quiet. When I have to accelerate next to a cop (at a light or something) I just make sure to take it easy. So far no problems, but that's not to say I won't have one in the future. It just depends on the cop and whether he feels like hassling you. I live in a college town where it seems the cops here aren't too strict on traffic enforcement as much as on actual crime, and of course drunk students.

And BTW if there was a loss in low end power it was small. The sound of the engine makes it seem more powerful in a way, so its ok for me.

Backpressure is bad. It's exhaust scavenging that you want. Seeing how the rest of the exhaust system is left intact, removing the mufflers really shouldn't even affect that. If it does, the effect will be minimal.

Thanks,

I found them on eBay... they were inteded for the New GTO but GM didn't put them on. Some employee got a hold of a few sets and put them on eBay.

I found this out after I lost the first auction because my computer F-up on my last second bid.

I contacted the guy and he told me he had more and would sell them to me for a lot cheaper than what I was going to bid. $45 for the set.

Bad news is they are only 2.25" inlet.. the do look sharpe
