Cut out mufflers

I found them on eBay... they were inteded for the New GTO but GM didn't put them on. Some employee got a hold of a few sets and put them on eBay.

I found this out after I lost the first auction because my computer F-up on my last second bid.

I contacted the guy and he told me he had more and would sell them to me for a lot cheaper than what I was going to bid. $45 for the set.

Bad news is they are only 2.25" inlet.. the do look sharpe

Damn, does that mean they can't be had? BTW, your right, they do look sharp!

Thanks,

Jim

I really havent noticed a lost in power, just scared the :q:q:q:q out of me the first time i got on it from a dead stop brought it up to 65 got off then the down shift I was like of :q:q:q:q did I break something, you know how the motor roars for a split second after letting off then it gets real quiet, thats all it was but i never heard it before with no mufflers. And how did cutting out mufflers effect your mpg city and highway, did u guys c a increase or decrease or the same, Im pondering on cutting out the resonator puting a flowmaster then 3.5 chrome cut outs in the back, I heard id get better gas mileage and some slight power increase, also how would that sound?

Ok, 50 series and or ultraflow in place of resonator vs. straight pipe in place of resonator with bullets out the back were stock mufflers were. I want my car to sound deep but not have horrible interior drone like I do now, I did the math and 2 bullets be about what a ultraflow or 50-series cost me maybe little cheaper but ill pay little extra for better results. Whats your guys opinions Im really on a tight budget and what I listed above Is what I can afford, Id luv to have headers with dual x-pipe in place of 3rd cat and resonator with genos mufflers in back but Im really straped for money, so please bare with me, lol, thanxs.

The best budget advice I can give is; "leave it alone!" Nothings cheap, mods and upgrades always cost more than what they were "supposed too." With that said, have you listened to Nitrobashers exhaust, with glasspacks? Thats a great exhaust note (IMHO) for the money. If its too much or not enough sound, thats a good place to start. Though, I have a feeling that the best for you is going to be Geno's set up.

Nitrobashers exhaust, havent heard it, can u give a describtion, is it louder then no mufflers, hows the interior drone? And last has anyone seen a difference in mpg with no mufflers, my economy is reading 12.5+ city were it used to be 15-16+ but then again I have only checked the mpg today and It was a very short stop and go and on the way back home I was at a steady 45 and read 14.5+ so idk If anything really changed. And my family is good friends with a guy who does exhuast and he would do a good job and he never rips us off, Im gonna talk with him c what he says he use to have a mark 8 that he modded pretty good, and had a loud exhuast, ill c what he says and quotes me on price, but please someone reply personal experience with mpg with no mufflers.

Thanxs, helped a bit but Im not in the postion financially to do a 2in2 out, but I can afford to just put a 1 in 1 out in place of the resonator or just keep the mufflers out a put tips there, that be the cheapest but idk If im loosing mpg with no mufflers, Im really considering doing just a 1in1 out prob cost me 250 atmost and sound good. Tips, muffler, and some basic welding and work done from a friend of the family, know which muffler should I put in the place of the resonator? Flowmaster 50, ultra flo, magnaflow, what would sound the best?

for 250 you can deffinately go with a 2in 2 out. if you do the work yourself. i did true dual exhaust (stock mufflers) no 3rd cat, res. for around $30. i had 2 base model center sections.. i still wanted to be quiet also, but im still deciding on that.

Tips: $40
Installation: $45
Expression on the face of Mustang owner next to you at the light.....PRICELESS

:D

mine has actually gotten more deeper and quieter than before.......took a really long time to get the deeper note.......as for mpg improvement......before my average was dead on at 18.0, after two weeks i cut the mufflers it was up to 18.6 average.......was it the muffler being gone, i dont know........

I agree it's the most cost effective way to do it... Your cost will be $300 max with good web surfing for parts.

I did it with my 95.

Which way would that be the 1in1 out or the 2in2 out? Also the person who put the 45 tips, 45 installed, ext, lmao. Also It seems that my car is getting deeper as I go, Im definetley gonna throw in tips asap so I dont have co2 running threw my cab and then might put in the 1in1 out, thanxs.

Actually what I have is a 1 in 2 out Magniflow Muffler where the resonator was. The guy who did my exhaust would not cut the 3rd cat.

He did the job for $100 per exhaust. Then I paid around $60 for the Magnaflow Muffler - I got my tips for about $45 from Geno.

I really like this set up, but if I'd do it again I'd Cut the 3rd cat myself and then take the car to my exhaust guy. I'd get a Mangaflow 2 in 2 out muffler.

K, I have alot of thinking to do, but for now I think tommorrow Im gonna go up to autozone or somewhere to c if I can find some tips I like, I want 3 or 3.5 inch polished and cut on a 45 Ive seen many marks here with tips like that on the Mark, I dont like how it looks now, Its a 95 LSC so I have the cut outs for tips on the bumper looks to suspicious and I think if i drove by a cop hed pull me over for sure, If tips were there theyd prob leave me alone Ive been talking to some of my 5.0 and LT1 friends with the really loud exhuast and they never get pulled over and most of them have no cats, lol.

If you go to Autozone don't spend too much as what they have is all Crap!!

Buy something cheap just to get you by, then hunt the net.. There are so many places on-line with great deals on tips and a lot of choices. I spent weeks almost months hunting down tips.

When you do make sure that they are stainless steel, and that they are doubled walled.

You will find them ranging from $15 per tip $100 per tip maybe even more. Even eBay has some very nice tips at great prices. I (yes the anti-Autozone LvC Member) searched the store and all I ever see is very cheap junk.

Good Luck...

I have not noticed any difference in MPG with the mufflers removed. When it comes to fuel economy it's tough to get reliable numbers with so many variables effecting it, but if anything I'm getting slightly better mileage.

I noticed an increase in MPG, but in the same week I removed my mufflers I also replaced by strut rod bushings, which were terrible and were throwing my car out of alignment. But either way, I picked up 2 MPG or so on the highway.

I don't know about what you notice with the removal of the Mufflers. Logic would say you should gain mpgs and some hp.

But what you gain will really not be noticed. In the long run it is there...

What you will notice is sound.. The car sounds like it's got a V-8 with some balls.

And that is what you have. You have a Lincoln Mark VIII... Not the fastest car in the world but in 1992 or was it 1993 it set the Land Speed Record for it's class at Bonneville with a 3 pass average of 181 mph. Not bad for a land yacht..

It's not the quickest off the line. 4000 lb takes a bit to get going but is still gets down the 1/4 will many cars 1/2 it's weight and faster than most car it's weight.

Mark VIII's were discontinued in 98 so the newest ones will soon be 10 years old. It set the standard for a lot of technology in it's day and many standard features are now standard on many low end cars today.

I've chopped the mufflers on my 94 because I wanted it to sound better and I didn't have the extra cash at the time to do an exhaust swap. I like the sound. I have a nice set of tips to make it look good. Not 100% what I'm looking for but it will do for now.

Neighbors don't complain about the sound. At slow or Neighborhood speeds it's not loud... At steady HWY speeds there is a nice rumble. More drone than the set up I listed for my 95. I wouldn't want to ride in the back seat for a long time.

My 95's set up listed above has a very nice mature sound, then again I am 45 and I don't need to be the loudest car in town, I just want my car to sound like it has some ball... I did notice that when I added the tips to my 95's set up. Pick in previous post in this thread. I did quiet it down a note...

I really don't know why I'm rambling but I am.. so I'll end this post. LOL

I like the sound but its the dam interior drone under slow accel. that really gets me with no mufflers, did long drive today and it seems im getting better mpg, so im happy with that but Im prob gonna get a 1in1 out muffler in place of the resonator for a better less drone sound, If it wasent for the drone id keep it like it is but Its really getting on my nerves, So whats a good 1in1 out that will give me a nice clean sound not to restrictive of a muffler not effect mpg and not have excessive interior drone, I find it worse then my friends 5.0 with no cats and flowmasters, what should I due?

dident think it be necessary to start another thread, quick question, J-mod does it fix the down shift at 30 my car if im coasting to a stop it like bumps down at 30, and of course i allready have the 1-2 were it kicks, what else J mod fix, price from a shop?

Yep... Unless you get on the gas more often.
