It's an 02 V8 with almost 130,000 on the odo. I've had it since 35000 and take good care of her; no racing or unnecessary wot. Noticed a puff of smoking out of the tailpipe yesterday morning right after I cranked it. No big deal I thought. Oil was maybe a quart low; decided to go ahead and change the oil.
Changed oil yesterday afternoon, had the mechanic do it - Mobil1 5-20 syn, filter, all that happy stuff. Started noticing a lot of smoking coming out of those tailpipes about 4 seconds after the engine turns over and starts. Blows smoke for a few seconds, then dissipates. Not blue, black, or steam, but grey. Smells like burnt oil. Fills up a good area behind the car.
Romped on it later that evening, thinking maybe she just needed a good blowing out, and belched smoked out the ass end and got a bad bad knock out of the passenger side. Half throttle later did the same thing. No check engine light.
Only blows smoke after it's been sitting for 30 minutes or so, the longer it sits, the more smoke. As of today, its been blowing smoke for up to 15-20 seconds after I start it. It runs and drives fine, it doesn't seem to miss once it gets past its initial hiccups, I can get down on it and it seems to run fine with no knocking. I can crank the car and rev it up to the limiter all day long without knocking, just under drive load it will miss sometimes.
All coils have been replaced, as well as, obviously, the valve cover gaskets.... probably about 8-10 months ago. No sign of oil leaking under the hood or under the car. Absolutely no check engine light at any time. Put my ear to both sides of the block and don't hear any pinging, knocking, or ticking, even under revs, from the engine. Oil level is fine. Car is not overheating. Does not stutter or lose power or shudder or any of the other weird things these cars do on occasion.
Somebody please help me figure out what the f*ck I'm dealing with here.
