Engine Temp. Experiment (heat extraction)

Nope, I still ran a 14.3X at 98? Its somewhere on this forum, timeslip showed 93 but my buddy had it on video an it was 98 so its still right where it should be. Its just a dog, 2200rpm stall, 4000lbs, not a lot of torque = sh!tty 60 foots.. Oh well..

What if I replace the cowl with a steam engine to harness that excess heat? Then I can slap a hybrid sticker on it!

Seriously though, cool experiment, thanks for sharing :Beer

you missed the point of "its a 3.9L v8"....(thats why you dont spin and suck comming out of the hole ;) )

a toyota sienna has more hp than my car, and only 4 less then a 2nd gen lol.

I think removing the cowl and sitting in traffic really puts it into perspective. I am not exaggerating when I say the heat waves just pour out.

Also thanks guys for the comments, I like to do these kind of things to give other people and myself actual photos and numbers to learn more information about the LS. I did something similar when I installed all new interior LEDs; giving before and after photos. It is simple things like this that we can use to our knowledge and bettering of our cars!

Also I want to add, removing the wipers makes the front look reallll cleannnnn. lols. I haven't put mine back on yet cuz I am lazy. :p

How great would this forum be if only 15% of its members were like this one !!

Thank you Andrizzle.

BTW, can I have the link to the led convertion u mentioned in the quoted post ?

About the wipers, I'd love a single wiper blade right in the center on my windshield !!

Great job, cool idea literally, some guys are talking pusher fans, not needed heat travels from hot to less hot and as car travels it will create a vacuum over vents to draw heat outward reguardless of temps-fender side vent would work great for exhaust manifolds

Of course the engine must remain relatively dry but if you notice the engine covers under the car dont cover th entire engine bay, 08 and early gt500 with kidney shaped vents - they were open directly to the engine bay-

Doesn't the engine bay have to stay dry? Any updates on this experiment?

I have not cut into it. I am debating whether or not I am going to. I am scared to do that initial dremeling. I have gone as far as sketching out the cuts on paper only. lol

Also about keeping it dry: I dunno if you have ever looked @ the wiper cowl, but the water in the middle drains off into the wiper hole cut-out. This hole then drains directly into/onto the back of the engine near the firewall.

The vents would allow water into the same area if they were done this way. I am going to look more into this before cutting more, I sure don't want a cut up wiper cowl that is pouring water onto my VCs

Is it too hard to find a spare cowl ? Maybe a donator ? :shifty:

Not on my end, not sure about missinglinc.

My hood has sweet extraction right now since its buckled lol!

Im still running my cracked radiator. I cant afford to upgrade it right now as my car need other stuff. Ima have mine fixed and upgrade sometime soon.

I was looking at some pics of Lou's LS from a Mean Street car show he did a few years ago, and I saw he has a modified hood. Looked like he put in some vents in addition to the scoop for the CAI.

How much do u want to spend on a used oem one? There is a couple LSs at some junk yards close to my house. I can stop n ask how much for one. If u wanna buy it I'll pick it up and ship it to you.
