First Step To Good Sound

Thanks "chestnut"

I found a shop in Decatur, AL., which is where I used to live up until 2004 but they said they would install the kit I bring in for about $200-$250 but he said he needed to look at it first. I told him I would bring pictures of other peoples exhaust so that they would have a better idea of what they'll be doing. He stressed to get there early and they open at 8:00 and the shop is only 25 min away from me. Also, he said nobody in the state of Alabama has a mandrel pipe bender. :shifty: I feel like I'm living in the Twilight Zone

Anyway, taking it Monday morning but only for them to look at it. He told me to go ahead and order the kit and bring it on down... Seeing how there are no mandrel pipe benders in Alabama, I guess I will order the kit because I'm not doing crush bend nor am I doing aluminized steel. Not sure what they use but the bends are making me buy the kit.

Oh come, on a hacksaw is all you need.

Sometimes I worry about the kids these days, powered everything, wanders off muttering .....

:D I ain't wearing my arm off with a hacksaw. Hopefully the exhaust shop will just do it all for me, if I'm that lucky. By the time I'm done with this whole install, I'm looking at $940 total and that's if they charge $300 to install the stuff I bought. Never thought I would put this much more into this car but this is seriously it. No more big buys for this thing.

ya right....and its so worth it...my car is getting exhausted once winter is over

That muffler has dual outs. Mine are single in and out with a dual in/dual out muffled X. That clip you posted sounds good but I'm going for more of a quieter sound for the Mark. Mustangs should sound like that but not a stock Mark, JMO

I've still got an old pipe cutter somewhere, the kind that's just a short chain that looks like a twisted chainsaw chain with a wooden handle on each end

Same as the one used as a mid muffler on Marks by many. 2 1/2", 2 in 2 out x inside. I obviously didn't need a x muffler at the bumper but thats the one that fit best.

Ok, I gotchya now. Had me confused there for a minute. I'm going with dual in / dual out muffled X and two Magnaflow mufflers in the back with (Pypes) tips to keep mine low toned, until it's punched on and even then, it's not very loud but it is heard. I was just on eBay about to order the 2.5" SS pipe kit and I should have all this in within a week or two tops.

So do you have any X at all in the middle or just two at the back on each side? It just seems a little loud back there if that's a muffled X in the rear. I'm not knocking the sound so, don't take what I'm saying the wrong way. Just still a little confused as to what you have and how it's all setup.

Sapper, load up the welder and bring some of your own tools that you think you might need and take a vacation for a few days. I'll help ya hold stuff up lol. Cash money! I even have an empty master bedroom for you to sleep in. All food and drinks on me while you're here. :D

Seriously though, I believe the place in Decatur, AL. is going to install everything for $250 and not bitch about the 3rd cat. I really find it hard to believe that there is not one mandrel bender in the state of Alabama. That means that every shop in Alabama that puts in duals are crush bending peoples pipes. I told the guy he wasn't crush bending nothing under mine and I'll come with pipes that are already pre-bent, mandrel style.

Too bad it'd cost around $200 just in gas to get there and back in my Merc, I don't think I'd want that argon bottle rolling around in the trunk of the Mark lol

I posted not really to compare sound, more cause its kinda funny how I ended up using the same one many use on there Marks. And to show more how different it sounds with an entirely different set up.

The car has long tube headers, 2 1/2" pipes, a MagnaFlow X pipe is located shortly after the headers and then both pipes run down the passenger side over the axle into that muffler. Over the axle on the same side was very tight so mandrel bent pieces were sectioned and joined to do so. The Mustang II doesnt have room for mufflers both sides in back, gas tank one side and muffler the other squeezed between the leaf springs. Actually not even a good spot to run just a pipe out the rear of the drivers side so I stuck with stock location for the muffler. It was supposed to be quieter but not surprizing it isn't. WOT it sounds like a Nascar going by.

Sorry about the thread jack.

Now I see how it's setup. I'm taking it that the X you have just after the headers is an open X and not the same as you have in the back? I never would have thought I'd see a Magnaflow muffled X at the rear of a car lol. This is the one I'm going with in the middle. Part# 14386

Yeah, gas would be a bit high from there to here and we don't need any argon bottles rolling around in the back of a Mercury or in your trunk. I could pay for your gas and give you a $100 for the labor and provide you with one safety meeting. :shifty:

Yeah just a X after the headers. No way in he11 you'd get a muffer under there not that I would want it without it sitting on the ground.

I believe the muffler is a 5x8 so it might not be the exact one your going to run.

I wanna hear this!! I posted earlier in the thread about that exact tip setup style
Ive always liked those tips on Stangs

Come on (02LSE96LSC91SE84TC), we need to hear a sound clip. I almost went with just the muffles Magnaflow X and no mufflers out the back like Don Pfau done with his Mark but I have heard a lot of his race videos and it's too loud for my taste. I'm trying to keep it on the DL. He has the same X as I have but the longer model but no mufflers at all. Just tips.

DLF has the same X-Muffler under his. This is how much of it you will see. But, under your Mustang, there might not be as much room..

Sound clip and everything I bought is the same thing DLF has with the exception of headers and new spun high flow cats.
