this how you got your wife? rape her, pay the father a few sheckels and she's yours?
" a rape is worth $380"
FIRST... a person can't look at todays value, (purchasing power), of a shekel... and transpose that back to thousands of years ago. Back in Old Testament times,,, 50 shekels was over 6 MONTHS wages. Redo THAT math for whatever you earn in that time.
Not to mention that the man was obligated to marry the woman he raped... and could never divorce her. Once again you are spouting things from a point of ignorance.
- The
average sentence for rape in Canada is 3.85 years and 6 years in the US
Couldn't find comparisons on fines... but I'm sure Canada fines are less too.

And AGAIN... you post a pic in #839,,, throwing Bible scripture back in the face of believers. Fine and fair enough,,, but then you say THIS:
and this is why my morals are higher. i don't have a passage in my morals to have slaves. i hate nobody unless they've done me wrong.
There's your contradictive double standard AGAIN!!! You supposedly have higher morals than everyone else, (by your own standards),,, but hate people that do you wrong... when Jesus says that we are supposed to love people EVEN when they do us wrong. Trust me,,, that is definitely a challenge at times.
that pick and choose is the problem with the bible. if it doesn't apply, you should remove it and stop promoting hate with it.
And you are not guilty of doing the same thing??? You are the worst on this thread for picking and choosing... ESPECIALLY when taking parts of the Bible out of context.
The Bible does not promote hate.... people do,,, especially people that take parts of the Bible out of context,,, (such as yourself), and/or try to use God to serve their own selfish purpose.
There is NOTHING that needs to be removed from the Bible,,, but it DOES need to be understood in proper context!!! If people apply wrong interpretations to any part of what the Bible says... it is because of ignorance and/or lack of knowledge... or intentional deception.
I have suggested to you to read the Bible as a history book, (of the nature of man). Until you do that,,, you will remain ignorant.

As far as your pic in post #850... while the King James Bible does have many issues,,, the rest of what is said in post #850 is a bunch of lying BS. There are many Biblical records that pre-date the KJV by 1500+ years. PLUS you ignore the fact, (intentionally or otherwise), that the sole purpose of the Jewish Scribes... was to copy, (word for word and mark for mark), the ancient Scriptures,,, and they were at least "triple checked" (counted word for word and mark for mark), by other Scribes to make sure there were no errors.
Some of the other Scriptures that pre-date the King James: (some Google)
What books were in the Dead Sea Scrolls?
Of the scrolls found, about a quarter (220 in all) are books of the Hebrew Bible, or what Christians call the Old Testament: all the books, in fact, except Esther and Nehemiah. The most common books found are
Psalms and
Deuteronomy.
The Dead Sea Scrolls were discovered in a series of twelve caves around the site known as Wadi Qumran near the Dead Sea in the West Bank (of the Jordan River) between
1946 and 1956 by Bedouin shepherds and a team of archeologists.
So WRM... sources found 60+ years ago... prove that most Biblical translations have accurately been passed down for thousands of years... from:
The Jewish Torah,,, the longest surviving record of the Old Testament... still being used by the Jewish people today, (and some of it parallels the Q'ran).

When were the gospels written and by whom?
Although some scholars disagree, the vast majority of researchers believe that Mark was the first Gospel to be written, sometime around the year 70. This scholarly consensus holds that the Gospel of Matthew and the Gospel of Luke were composed, independently of one another, sometime in the
80s or
90s.
