If your LS was stolen or totaled today...

Well if the LS was completely totalled (not just some stupid insurance $$ total). I would be looking at something with rwd (awd as a close second), manual tranmission, descent size.

So having said that my top choices are:
Another LS Sport (a V8 this time) - I'll handle the trans & rear,
A BMW 5 series,
A BMW 6 series,
A BMW 3 series,
An Audi,
A Sube WRC

Of course that decision is much easier than the one that would be staring me face if I really totaled the GT that I use as my daily driver.

Lexus GS. Not sure if it would be a 6 or an 8, tho.

Right now, Lincoln doesn't sell anything I want to buy, so its off the list. The Cadillac STS is nice, but somewhat expensive for what you get. The Infiniti M series is nice, but there are quality/reliability issues, and the dealer near me is slimey. A Benz E Class is $50K+ for a stripped V6, and the BMW styling makes me barf. A sad state of affairs.

my choices are childish, but I would do a STI or EVO. Just for these d@mn Chicago winters. My LS can barely move with all this salt on the ground, let alone the snow!!

I down shifted to third gear at 65mph to pass a truck and almost lost control with the back end sliding out in the salt covered roads.

Its kind of funny because, just after I posted to this thread the other night, my wife started the "you need a 'Family' car" discussion again. Every so often she gets it in my head that I 'need' a four door family car to replace my daily driver mustang.
So I showed her a couple of used Lincoln LS V8 Sport (and pointed out that I would have to spend another couple of thous to convert them to manuals), A BMW five series sedan or "shooting brake" with the IX package or Sube WRX.
She very quickly decided that reminding me that the dog needs his shots was more important.

Winter weather sucks!!!

Up here in WI, I dread taking out the LS when it snows, or even when it flurries. I was on the freeway this morning and was doing about 35 MPH on the on-ramp because I could feel it sliding. Honestly, I am really considering looking for another car.

This may sound sutpid but... considering the LS is RW drive, does that mean FW is better for winter weather?

Thanks for the advise, pr!ck.

I see stupid people everyday on the road that think that because they have FWD or AWD that their car can't lose control in the rain.
They also tend to be the people who buy the PEP Boy's special sale tires because the car has FWD or AWD.
Then they loose control and spin in the rain and sometimes sail off into the trees killing themselves and a passenger or two.

I'm not going to say the LS has great balanced traction in loose conditions because it doesn't. FMC cheaped out on us and let the bean counters decide that the traction control was enough, instead of including an LSD in the rear.

but its not a matter of FWD vs RWD or AWD, its a matter of proper engineering, proper tires and intelligent driving.

Are you running snow tires on your LS?

The answer is: It Depends.

A FWD car is going to be MUCH better than a RWD Pickup. The pickup will have a light rear end, and no traction back there. Unless you load it up with weight.

A FWD car will get going better, due to the weight of the engine and tranny sitting on top of the drive wheels.

A RWD car like a BMW or the LS will handle better than FWD once you get moving, because the vehicle is better balanced, and thus, will handle better.

Other factors are snow tires or condition of the all-season tires on the car..chains present..Stability Control present? Things like that.

Thanks for your input, guys. Reason I asked was mainly because I just replaced my tires with Firehawk LH back in Sept. and I guess I just expected more. In know they are all season tires, so they arent made for 4 inches of snow. It just sucks when roads and highways aren't plowed or salted and just a little accelaration feels like a death wish.

JES, sorry if I was rude; this winter weather does a good job putting me in a bad mood. Thanks for your input.

I'd get either a used v8 with a performance market....Mustang/Camaro/Thunderbird/Mark 8 LSC...etc...

Too Good to be true?

I wanted to ask you guys about something I saw on the CarFax for this 2003 Audi.
There was an alert from the original owner for "buyback/lemon". What exactly does that mean?
After the original owner, it was purchased by a dealer, sold to an individual, and now just recently purchased from auction by the dealer selling it.
