last thread sorry about all the ghreads was over zealous

my trans was serviced at 116k; at 166k the stealer drained and refilled, not even a real service or flush; it's been leaking from the main seal ever since...drives fine...leaks...f'n stealers

out of curiosity would you like to know what ive fixed so far?

i find it hard to believe that the trans hasn't had some kind of maintenance. there's no way a 4r70w without fluid changes, or maybe even a rebuild, made it to 300k.
it probably already has mercon v in it.

if the fluid looks good and you want to change it, i think you'd be alright doing that.

I wouldn't be too sure about that! Mine has 203k on it and has never been opened....still has original fluid in it from 94. I know because I bought it when it was 5 years old and never did anything to it (fluid is still red). Still going strong and shift's as hard as ever. I'm afraid to do anything to it now soooo, I guess I'm going see how long it's gonna last. :) Probably going to hit 204k by next weekend.

Okay I am really surprised by that, not the mileage but not doing any fluid change. How many miles did it have when you bought it? The additives and fluid that old break down over time but yours seems to be good at 203K. Got a transmission cooler?

130k when I bought it in 99. No tranny cooler. The original owner did nothing to it. Slight shutter from time to time, but still pull's hard when I need it. Afraid to open it now, may cause more damage then good. I don't think I have much of a choice but to keep on driving it till something happens.

Yeah with a history like that, I wouldn't either.

I'm in the same boat with the 97. Got it at 122k / 6years ago and the fluid was meh. Not sure what the first owner (101k/4 years) did but I'm certain the second (20k/ 6years) didn't do anything. I've decided to just let it live its life. At 151k its still chugging along and all i've done was add Dr. Tranny to fix the shudder. I'm very easy on the car so hopefully it'll last a while.
