well i think my problem my be the coils. with the engine running i can pull any of the wires and there is no difference in the way it runs. where would be the best place to buy new motorcraft coils?

I doubt its the coils....go back and read post 10.
If you are sure the firing order is correct I would do what Roadboss has suggested.

Pull one wire off at a time while engine is running, when you break the connection between wire and plug, it WILL run worse if there is NOT a problem with that plug/wire/coil, do them one at a time until you take one loose that does not change the idle of the motor
And I'm betting you've got your firing order wrong and haven't even checked it yet

i checked firing order against this http://www.lincolnvscadillac.com/showpost.php?p=422981&postcount=8 and it was right so.
