Looking to purchase first Lincoln

I gotta a buddy of mine who used to work at a used car lot, and they sell extended warranties. Would that suffice or should it strictly be the dealer warranty?

Are coils hard to fix? I had an uncle that lives about an hr away from where I attend college who fixes cars all day long, and he's always said he'd help me out. He specializes in GM and other American made vehicles. I'm a decently smart guy, so maybe with a repair guide, you guys, Youtube and his help, I could fix a few things. LOL

There is a wealth of knowledge on how to do coils and other common issues on this site if you take the time to look for it. It is harder to do the coils on the v6 though versus the v8

Just looked up the 04-05 Galant.. :) Pretty nice. They receive really great reliability reviews too! I found one near the college for $3,900 and has 102k. It needs some paint work, but that's about it.

He was kidding....Some of the mark series owners like to come over here and say our cars suck when in reality they are driving around in only moderately fast cars that look like a kid with down syndrome designed :p

Would getting a Gen 1 and purchasing an extended warranty cover me?

And that's not cool, I like how the Galant looks. Lol, I'm not one who cars much about the speed or power. If it looks good, rides smooth, reliable and makes one happy, then it's all good. Lol.

Yes I have an extended non dealership warranty. Its paid for itself already since I've owned the car in January. Buying a Gen1 isn't bad just make sure its worth it! Find an LSE I know there is at least 3 Gen1 LSEs for sale in my area. Ones even a V6 if you'd like that more.

And bullschmidt, I couldn't have said it better. Without offending anyone....Driving a Mark is like winning the special olympics...even if you win your still ........

I would have to somewhat agree with fastmark1993 that galants looks like a GEN1, even though I know he does it mainly to mess with us :p . I think they look similar, BUT, mainly for the similar shaped headlights and the big amber reflector in them just and somewhat similar body shape to it, although it smaller and not as beautifully proportioned as the LS, nothing else. I saw one the other day and just with a quick glance appeared to be a gen1 ls but right away realized it wasn't.

Really? What color? I'd like a black one. Who's your warranty through?

Yea, they are pretty nice looking.. Even through he was just jokin, hahaha. I seen a Diamante not too long ago that was pretty sweet too.

I'd personally hold out for an '06 LS or anything LSE. I am not a huge fan of the regular LS front bumper/fogs/etc or the chrome. But that's just me.

I think I might get booed or stoned, but what's LSE?

Check out my album in my profile and youll see an example of the LSE package.

All 2006 LS' have the LSE style front bumpers/fogs/etc and the body-color surround on the grills/bumpers/etc. I think the only thing they are missing is the spoiler on the trunk.

If it wasn't for the square fogs I probably wouldn't mind the non LSE cars as much. But those fogs man, they just aren't doing it for me.

Yeah all thats missing is the spoiler for 2006.

But that of course can be added.

Not really seeing the similarities..

Heres my 02 LSE. LSE front bumper is different as well as side skirts and rear valance.

My warranty is thru Fidelity Extended Services. It's more like a service insurance agreement plan. But whatever dealership you buy your LS from will have a favorite warranty company they'd like to sell you. Go with what they offer as I'm sure they've had previous experience with them. And most importantly you need the dealership on your side when your battling a warranty company.

I'd be purchasing my LS from a private owner instead of a dealership. Not sure if there are other extended warranty companies out there I could look at.... what coverage should I look out for specifically in the warranties to cover the LS?

I bought mine from a dealership and they are required to meet certain criteria before the vehicle can be transfered to your ownership even as an as-is sale.

Main issues with the LS are coils, plugs, and gaskets.

As well as the cooling system.

Dont care for them, I just said from a distance and quick glance I thought it was a gen1 ls because of the amber up front

I got the Ford extended warranty with mine. Not sure if there's an option there after it's escaped the original ford warranty though. Mine was an off-lease still under the original factory bumper-to-bumper so I might have gotten an easy in. I have their top-tier powertrain coverage though. Covers everything short of body work, interior pieces, and consumables like brakes/headlights/taillights/etc.

Basically, if the car acts up, I just drop it off at the dealer and start bitching. They throw me a loaner and away I go. Although it does suck to go from the LS to whatever the lot-loaner is. My dealer has like 2-3 Mercury Marquis' they keep around for such an occasion. I got stuck with one while they fixed the headliner when I bought mine.

Although lately I swear I am hearing what sounds like loose/worn bushings. So I'll have to see what they give me this time.
