Well like most of my race stories, this one does not take place after leaving work lol.

I was coming back from looking at the new Spectra5 and than got some things for the LS at Advance Auto. As I pulled out of the parking lot I was in the right hand lane and there was a 300M aways back and the light ahead went yellow and there was a car infront of me so as I go to whip into the left hand lane the 300M flys up but too late, I was over already so the dude was than looking abit mad about it so I knew after we got going he would whip over after getting past the car beside me and go for it so I figure "hey, the road ahead is clear as a brand new windshield so why not."

So the light goes green and I take off just a titch bit quick and sure enough the 300M moves over and is on it so I punch it FT and he does not even catch me until I hit a xxx and let off. He proceeded to fly by and than slam on the brakes like he was saying he had me but if I had kept on it there was no way he was coming back from his 3 cars down. Felt good to clean it out and was nice taking out another Dodge product and a decent one at that.

I than lost him in traffic, I guess his ride is not great in the handling department either.

As to why I was looking at a Kia, I just felt like it. On my way to AA I sat infront of the dealer and it looked like a neat little hatch. So I went in and test drove one, they had no manuals:( but it was nice, I could probably see myself in one although I'd want a manual. Again, I have a wide range of tastes, not everything has be a lincoln-ish car. Before the Lincoln I had nothing but cars some, like on here think are crap cars but I loved all of them and none gave me a problem and I actually miss a few of them that do not compare to the LS in features and what not. I do not measure a car by its heated/cooled seats and crap, if you have to go that far in when saying why you like this are that to feel better about the x amount of money you just spent than, well, you just keep telling yourself its a better ride lol.

As for the 300M, not sure of the year, looked like a 2000 or so.

In the situation you just described, if a guy like that gets all pissy i would have kept side by side with the other car and let him lag behind. I think its more fun to see the guy get stuck behind than try to race him to 100+ mph. But while on the highway i saw a black car coming up behind pretty fast, the road was clear also and as it got closer i sped up alittle. It was a Dodge Charger SRT8, whenever he punched it so did i and he never really gained on me at highway speed. Hemi my ass. Also as far as KIA's go, i had a rental KIA Amanti once before. For the money they are and with a 100,000 mile warranty it really isnt a bad car. Its fwd, but not bad. They come with alot of nice options.

Yea I thought about keeping pace w/ the car beside me but I felt more like just showing him up instead. Most of the time I do do that box in thing, actually did that on the way to the Auto store w/ a subaru. They came flying up the right lane but they had to slow and I was the only one they could get infront of but I did not let them and the cars behind me made sure he stayed there too, I really love it when everyone gets on the same page. They tried that like 4 times and had the same result lol. The last time they got in a turning lane and turned off and than went down the road and whipped around(very illegal) and came up to the light and cut infront of turning traffic and were on their way. They had florida plates so I was like "go figure." Not saying anything bad about all Fla(I know your one) drivers, but the majority here do some strange things, them and Jersey, Va people.

You're smoking crack if you think that a Charger SRT-8 couldn't get past you...

RIGHT. Lets be real. The hemi will beat the LS.

On the other hand, the Magum, Charger, and 300 equpped with any of those V6's, top out at 115mph. And they look mighty silly on I-95 getting passed and teased by a 2002 V8LSE toying with him by flying by at 130...slowing back down to a side by side pace...then flooring it and leaving him...repeat 3 times. :)

Yea, I am sure a Hemi would rape an LS too but strange things do happen. Maybe that guys cylinder deactivation would not activate the 4 cylinders, it is a dodge lol. Sorry, just never really been a fan, honesty would not take anything they offer unless it was free, and I mean free across the board like gas, tune-ups, tires and yada yada.

Sounds safe.........the whole 130 mph thing.

I can tell you that the 300C srt8 is a fast car. I raced one at the track last weekend with my lightning and beat him but there is no way my LS could have beat it with just the intake and catback. he was in the mid 13s all day.

What is the fastest time for an LS?

My 04 will run a 14.2@99mph N/A. There are a few other LS's on here, 03+, that will run the same with similar mods.

There are faster LS's on here though with NOS.

The SRT-8 is a FAST car. No way an LS will run with them. From a holeshot, they have enough torque to rip an LS in half.

I like how when you mention the old M, the C comes up and than there is a debate.

I guess some people cant read. I wasnt racing from a stop, we were on a emtpy toll road. Keeping pace at 80 he didnt catch up. I kept him about 10-12 car lengths behind, if he gunned it to get 8-10 lengths i gunned it and we stayed apart. We hit 110 once maybe twice. We were the only two cars for miles. I dont car what they do at the track i am just giving my highway experience.

I was not saying you were on crack man, I can believe it when already rolling cause I have taken on cars much faster in my old rides and have faired much better than if it was from a dead stop.

425hp/425tq... Do the math.

:D

I saw this and thought I'd post. I owned a 2000 Lincoln LS V8 that I traded on my Charger, which is an R/T with the performance package. It has 350 HP.

My best track time with my LS was 15.4xx at I think 93 mph. I was VERY pleased with that time. Every other run I made in that car was at least 15.7. The 15.4 was after a long cool down in good air.

My Charger ran a 14.5 at 98 in crummy air, with a hot engine, and with only 1000 miles on the clock. It's probably good for at least 14.2 @ 100 in good air now that it's broken in.

So, any Chrysler 300 or Dodge Charger with the Hemi is faster than any LS, stock for stock. The SRT-8 model is not even a comparison, a stock one will blow away any LS.

The 3.5L V6 model of the 300 and Charger are governed at 130 I believe, and they are no slouch. They make 250 HP/ 250 lb/ft of torque, so they're about equivalent to an early LS. The Mopars weigh a bit more and have worse gearing (2.82 or thereabouts out back), but are only a few tenths slower at the track than an early LS.

lets just face it that the LS and the 300 are not drag cars. done not matter what is done to them and 15s are not fast.

My 05 LS dusted an 06 300c hemi by 2 car lengths from a stop up to 70 mph. The guy was pissed. An SRT8 would be a great race.

are we talking about a 300 "C" OR "M" ? i haven`t caught a hemi on the road yet though. i`m waiting patiently to catch my co-worker with a charger r/t at the track. if it ever happens

He never said it was. He was just validating that a stock Hemi is faster than a stock early LS, especially on the top end.

I hate to sound like a jerk here, being that I am a pretty new member, but I find it ridiculously hard to believe that anyones all motor LS beat a new V-8 powered Chrysler 300C or Dodge Magnum or Charger. There are so many variables in this that I don't really want to participate in this debate, but my general opinion is that it's simply not possible. Sorry to offend anybody, or possibly dent your ego, but that's my honest opinion.

I would have to agree with mcafferty, these cars are not drag cars. Not to say that you shouldn't have fun with your ride and do what you want with it, but these cars are by no means fast, nor are they built with straight line acceleration as their primary objective. If you want fast, for the money buy an LS1 Camaro or Firebird, dump the 5 or so grand that most people spend to customize their LS into that and have a 10 second car, still not real fast, but you'll be headed further in that direction.

Again, sorry to come off as a jerk, but I simply felt like offering my opinion. Being that drag racing is a huge part of my life, as you may have guessed by my screenname, I take this sort of stuff a little more to heart than others might.

Hope you enjoyed the read! :D

Yeah thats right ! A 300c hemi. Now of course I turned off the traction control and the AC, reved up the rpms before take off. Only a newbie would say it can't be done.

The 300C HEMI was either sleeping or not racing, or you are spraying or blowing your LS. The 5.7L HEMI cars are capable of low 14s/ hi 13s stock. NO WAY any all motor LS is going to touch that w/ equal drivers. SRT8s would just laugh at you. Keep dreaming.

Yup, must be the fact that I'm a newbie, it's got nothing to do with common sense, or the past decade of my life that I've spent modifying cars, motorcycles, and drag racing. What was I thinking?! :D

But hey, in all seriousness, if this is accurate, and you did actually beat a 300C in an all out race then I must congratulate you, for that is far outside of my understanding of the LS' capabilities.

Sorry to inform you but the 03-06 LS is a lot faster than your 00. I've driven the the 300 hemi and it is not as fast as it sounds. I have also driven an 02 LS and the acceleration curve is not the same as my 05. You have to consider the hp to weight ratio, the 300 is a heavier car and is geared differently.

Hey sounds good. Congrats to you on a good kill, and thanks for stating your opinion, facts, and reasoning like an adult! :Beer
