May be time for the LS to go.

I am about to ask probably a "duh" question but what the hell. Can the bad area not be cut out and use it as a template to have a new piece welded in?

Anything can be fixed. I saw an LS in the scrap yard a few months ago with the entire right rear corner cut from it. It looked like someone was using that chunk to repair a severely damaged LS. Who knows, but it goes to show that if someone wants something fixed they will go to great lengths.

I will keep my 02 LSE forever, barring an unrepairable wreck. When the engine dies it will be my project car and get a more suitable power plant.

Mine is the same way on the passenger side rear lift point. I'm just going to throw a steel plate on there and call it good. Don't stop drinking on my account though, hell drink 2 for me!

this is my plan as well, by the time I would be buying my next car, it will be worth little to nothing as a trade

Mine did the same thing at the jack point (which is odd since the rest of the underneath is pretty clean). You need to use a wide piece of wood on both sides of the seem now to jack it up. Such is the life of a car in New England. I'm not selling though, I'm going to run the bitch into the ground :D

yeah, these cars have almost no value in the used car world. You may as well hang onto it as long as possible.

Pete - would be sorry to see you go....

You should upgrade to an 06 like I did if you still like the LS. If not, there are definitely plenty of choices out there - I just couldn't find anything I liked anywhere near as much as the LS still gets me when I look at them

This has happened to me recently. I got quoted $800 to get it repaired. This was for both sides. They are cutting the cancer section out and then welding in new pieces.

If it's fixable i'd go that route. If this was the last straw and you just want to part ways, part ways..

I have fixed rust issues in the past.
I would not do it again unless its a one of a kind auto.

Rust free is were its at, not hard to obtain.
Or move on to something else.
Its a car.......were is my drink.....

What Josh said. Plenty of other cars out there that you may like better than the LS. Good luck with whatever you decide to do :)

Gonna third that G8 GT, really a nice, solidly built car with great looks (subjectively speaking) and an extra 80hp over a Gen II LS. Opt for the GXP and get an LS3 with another 60+ HP and 6-speed manual...

don't act like a day goes by that you dont miss having a slight misfire, but not bad enough to throw a code so that you can replace it! rofl

Honestly this is a badass ride. Probably what I'll look into after my LS. Also Chevy is going to start producing Commodres in the states under the Caprice badge soon I believe.

Is this what you're talking about? They really dulled it down, made it look generic and its for government fleet only.

Oh well, its GM, what more can you expect.

Here is a comparison with the Charger SRT8

Not sure I would drive a "Chevy" though. Yuck.

The G8 is ok but it's not a luxury car like the LS. Nothing but plastic inside.

And a great engine, almost all cars are plastic these days. There is nothing wrong with plastic though, its a great light weight material that is less expensive to produce and easier. From a manufacturing stand point it is a great material, and it will continued to be used.

The Ls is not all super luxurious either, full of cheap plastic, fake leather and plastic wood. I mean come on.

Its a fun car but it can be replaced, by many faster nicer vehicles.
