Mobil 1 Oil Filter now available (M1-213)

I'm using mobile 1. I forgot what filter I used but it wasnt the mobile 1, and it was fram. That I can remember haha. I'm going to change my oil around 7K so Ill probably get the mobile 1 filter this time around

Not sure if Fram quality has improved over the years, but they were one of the worst/cheapest constructed filters back when that kid did his test. They were using cardboard...:shifty:

Yeah I saw some pretty awful things about Fram so I steered clear of those. I went with a Wix if I remember correctly.

For $30 at the dealer you can get it changed with synthetic blend (recommended by ford themselves) and a motorcraft filter which is made by purolator.

You can spend much more on a full synthetic with fancy filter but this is good deal.

You wont get the long interval with the blend. Otherwise, its fine. I think you're right about motorcraft using purolator, but they do change vendors on a whim. Also, unless its a Pure One filter rebranded, I would go with the M1.

Ive done 5K miles on it twice now and it comes out clean just like when i did 5K with mobil1. I saw no difference to justify spending more.

It's around $40 or just over for full synthetic and Motorcraft filter if you do it yourself. My main reason of doing it myself is that I don't have to worry about the threads in the oil pan being stripped or someone starting the engine without any oil in it.

+1 Its not that I think they are stupid or inexperienced, its that I think they are in a hurry. I dont mind spending a little more (cost me around $40 or so for mobile 1 and wix filter) to get the oil that has the best lubricancy (not sure what the technical term is for this) also

You changed early at 5K on Mobil1 (and I'm sure the blend could go longer too but you would really need to have it analyzed to be sure). By long interval I meant 10-15K. At 5K interval, I'd be changing my oil every 3 months. Its actually cheaper per mile to pay a little more for full syn and go 2-3X longer.

It has to do a lot more than be lubricious. It has to flow well in a wide range of temps (something that a blend cannot do as well as a full synthetic) as well as some other things mentioned here... a quick read: http://www.blackstone-labs.com/do-i-need-a-tbn.php

Yeah i don't let my oil sit for that long so synthetic blend works great for me.

Oil breaks down from both heat and time and it gets stupid hot in Texas so i follow the 5K mile rule to avoid any issues especially with the nature of the timing chains.

I also only put very few miles per year on the car. I work 10 minutes away from home. Ive only put 13K miles in the past 2 years.

My cost was $45 this last time for 6 qts and the filter. I prefer full synthetic though... and I prefer the M1 over the other brands.

I'm with you, but I always prefer to do things myself if I can help it. You never know who's in that bay when you take your car somewhere. Some of those guys think "Oh its just a galant, who cares?" No one will ever take as much pride in stuff you own as you the owner. Another reason for doing it is so that you know your car. You may spot something else that needs work someone in a hurry may never notice.

Lol Galant... But yeah I definitely agree with you there. I just like to do anything I can on my own. Its just part of the 'experience' for me of owning a nice car.

Where are you guys getting your oil? I just paid $9.79+ tax per for 7 quarts of Mobil1 5W20(= $73.84). The K&N filter was another ~$10. I do go about 10K miles between changes; which works out to about twice per year.

Ouch. My local autozone has the 5 quart jug of Mobil1 for $35.99 and the motorcraft blend for $10 less.

If it matters, I buy the Extended Performance oil......

I'll probably stick with the motorcraft blend after my warranty is up. If I ran synthetic and tried to skip every other oil change I would never remember if I skipped the last one when the car beeped at me. Plus for what I would pay in oil/filter the difference would be about $10. Around $45 for the mobil1 oil/filter changed at 10K versus $55 for two oil changes with the synthetic blend. Plus I don't have to worry about them having the mobil1 filter in stock.

Chances are that when my engine blows up it won't be from oil failure anyways :)

WalMart. $28 for 5 qts for 5W-20 Extended Performance at the store near my house. $11 for the extended performance filter at www.filtersandwipers.com. I put 6 qts to top off though.
