Mobil 1 Oil Filter now available (M1-213)

I put 7 cause the VCT sensor leaks a little bit. Not enough to make a difference on the dipstick but still just in case.

If I ran synthetic and tried to skip every other oil change I would never remember if I skipped the last one when the car beeped at me.

Chances are that when my engine blows up it won't be from oil failure anyways :)

lol exactly. Mine will surely meet its demise with a rod blowing out the side. Tick tock. I'll spill all that expensive oil all over the place.

Its easy for me, I know I change at 175K next, then 185K.

Thanks for the documents. It wasn't in the section I was looking at about oil changes. lol Guess I'll add another half to full quart.

It's amazing how much oil these engines hold. I'm sure it has something to do with cooling and life span of the oil. But thinking back, my Town Car's 5.0 held roughly 5 qts. Now I'm talking about putting 6.5 to 7 qts in 3.9 and 3.0 engines. That 302 has a huge oil pan too... where does all the oil go in these engines? lol

The first time I changed my oil, I couldn't believe how much oil these things hold. I was used to Chevy motors (5.7) which are obviously "bigger" but hold less. In fact, I think I put 6 in my first oil change, drove around a couple miles, checked the oil, and saw it was low - thought I screwed something up so I came on here and everyone confirmed that 7 was better than 6.

Anyway, I change my oil when the car beeps at me and tells me my oil life is at 0%. I know that it is overkill, and since I use Mobil 1 full syn and Wix filters I could probably go twice as long, but it gives me peace of mind and I plan to have a car until she dies so I it's worth it to me.

I'll be picking up some Penzzoil Platinum (full synthetic) for my next oil change. With the amount I drive I'll be changing every 6mo.

It's a dohc cam engine. The Chevy 5.7 is actually smaller in physical size to the lower displacement 4.6 mod motor. This engine is only 3.9 in displacement but looks just as big as the 5.7 chevy even the intake runners look similar.

If i'm doing it right the engine will blow up under full boost :)

Well, put my M1 filter in last night... time will tell. Had to get it from filtersandwipers.com since no local stores had it yet. Not bad, $11 ea plus $5 flat shipping iirc so I just got 2.

From what I can gather, the the Purolator Pure 1 is almost immeasurably better at multi- pass filtering, but the M1 has better construction and flow. My guess is this leads to less bypass mode operation (can't find this data). M1 also says up to 15K protection while the Pure 1 does not provide service life.

Wouldn't mind drilling down and finding out for sure if this is the correct M1 oil filter for GEN I V8 ( w/ oil cooler ??? )

The Mobil site shows a MO2009 as the correct filter.

having a hard time finding a Canadian supplier, have to make a couple of calls tomorrow.
found some on eBay but 28$ shipping to Canada, yeah right!

----EDIT:

Seems like a top-notch filter though, could use a couple of those.

Figure I'd post this question here... I am out of oil at home - I changed the oil yesterday and have no further reserves. I just ordered the M1-213 filter. Now I'm looking at walmart for oil and they don't have the one I want in stock online, and I'd have to go to the store to pick it up - which I'd rather not do because the walmart near me is a NIGHTMARE. So the one that is in stock is the regular 5w-20, I usually get the extended life one ... but now I see a high mileage one that is good for engines over 75k. I currently have 104K. Should I get the high mileage one? Or just wait a bit for the extended life one to come in stock? I just changed the oil so I have about 6 months of time - I just rather be prepared than forget about it later.

Personally, I just go with the normal Mobil 1 5W-20. (One has 100K miles, the other 150K miles) The "high mileage" one just adds some stuff to swell seals. If you don't have any leaks now, it may actually shorten the life of your seals. I don't see the need for the extended life oil unless you are going longer than 1 year / 10K miles per change.

Thanks Joe. I don't have any leaks but my mechanic recently looked under the hood and said my valve covers are "sweating" and recommended I do the VCG replacements. Should I get the high mileage to help with that?

You can try it, but my general experience is that you'll still have to replace them. Of course, a little seepage is nothing to worry about.

Ok, thanks I'll order the regular stuff. He said he is going to be available to do the VCG replacement this coming Sunday, so hopefully in 6 months I won't need the high mileage stuff. BTW, it is even cheaper at walmart now - 22$

Reviving old thread....

The Mobil M1-213 is no longer available. What are you all using? My last change I used a NAPA Gold and Mobil 1 High Mileage. I’m at 215k miles and 5k since my last oil change.
