motor difference

complete meltdown. I THINK, my temp sensor was on the fritz, i always watch the gauges i would have noticed it rising, doing about 70 in deerfield the check temp came on display with the "bing",i lookback at the gauge, right in the middle.no valve chatter no coolant smell, 5 seconds later the temp gauge moves all at once to pegged, i pull over then the valves start chattering, i get to the right shoulder, it stalls, over.smoke everywhere out the dipstick hole, the air filter, well u see the piston.heads warped . done.

All sensors are fine on your engine from just an overheat. I was thinking you had fire or something, thats only way to kill sensors. Did you call Astro junkyars thats 32 miles from you off Cars parts? They list no price say call. You might score deal!
Also any far engine should cost 300 to get truck shipped from in usa to you. So if you pick that engine thats only $350 W/warr with only 85K on it your still only paying $650 for engine. Not $850.

Hmm weird. In my mark when the thermostat went I was 150km from home and limped it to my shop. Replaced thermostat and it was fine. Will still leave 20ft marks when I floor it!

im telling you, really they melted, there was nothing even left of the knock sensor, looked klike a mushroom, oil press, melted and it was only a month old.idont know how,and ive seen other melted motors, nothing like this, it even baffled the mechanic.the head is so warped on the counter you can almost put your little finger under it.

If the pic on top of this page is of his piston its got a hole in it! He not so lucky to just change therm.

The1andonly is that pic of your engine?

if you have $$$. i only wish.who wouldnt like to put a 5.4l blown in their ride there was a time i had $ it was only 7 months ago before i was run over.itsjust not the time. soon.very soon.

Nope! I meant there are other 4.6L engines that will mate up with the stock trans. Such as one from a Lincoln Aviator. Like what I had done. Slap on a Mach or Cobra intake and with a little work its a pretty easy setup. Especially on a Gen II where you are already converted to COP ignition.

Point being, expand your search and you may find a cheaper engine. I got my Aviator engine for $1500 and it was a test engine from Ford. Basically new.

Just checked car-part.com and found a Marauder 4.6.

85k $ 2500

Mach 1 4.6 "forged crank" 40k $2800

You were a Pioneer ;)

I heard in 92 they made a 5.0. Mark viii.

:slamNo. In '92 they made a 5.0L Mark VII (as in SEVEN or 7). And even then it wasn't a true 5.0L, it was a 4.9 liter (4" bore, 3" stroke, 301.6 cubic inches or 4,946cc). Ford was optimistic with their displacement measurements back then. And it was the old Windsor pushrod 302 block. The new DOHC 5.0L V-8 is actually 302 cubes and thus a "true" 5.0 liter V-8. Anyway, sorry for the derail. Just had to respond. :)

been looking at other options, found a 10 mustang, totaled, with coyote motor ,5g just dont have the$ for that kind of swap

Any and every OTHER non 97-98 mk8 engine you find will just cost you WAY more money. By you saying you don't want to pay 850 for engine makes us wonder why talk about 2500 or 5000 dollar engines.

Problem is all these engines still have "powedered metal" rods. So iffy to step on them hard, same rods in our engines.

Its not that. Id love to pay 850, but at the same time I'm not sure what I'm getting. If I know the whole motor is "new" for me that's piece of mind with a warranty even better. Didn't say iwas going to buy something else, I. Just want what's better for what I have to spend. My friend had a benefit dinner at the resteraunt I used to manage and raised the # I will be using.there's no confusion I just think that reman is the better route than boneyard motor or local supplier. I have some options just have to weigjhthem all this weekend. I trust everyones input here that's why I'm on my phone now while in the car being a postwhore on my way tolook at the 850 motor.

Duh. Was just seeing if the op would fall for it.

Reman makes no since cause the premium you are paying for warranty on a stock motor when you can get so much more by having someone rebuild a stock motor or pay more for a crate motor

True, but you get what you pay for.
Forged crank is a good base to build something you can step on.

A "c "headed 4v is also a good start if you have fried "b"head engine.

If you bought any engine that had a stock steel crank you would get that still in a reman motor. Case in point 96-98 Mustang 4.6L Cobra engine which came steel crank. BTW they are super nice Kelloge cranks factory. Also steel cranks have 8 bolts holes that hold on flywheel/flexplate not 6 like cast crank.

got it. my friend has a used car lot called about a few motors looks like he found a 50,000 mile motor for 1100. complete.he says most of the remans are good, he can get one for the same $ but they produce them like mcdonalds produces cheeseburgers.its gonna be a flipof the coin but prob the 50 motor

Did you find a motor? i can call a few places, i'm from north palm beach. and 1500 for a mark with a blown head gasket? Ouch, ouch ouch ouch. Thats expensive unless that cars in perfect condition.

i will see the car personally this weekend, he'll probobly take less, itsmy buddy's boss car came in for the work and was abandoned.

Is it gray or silver? I know of one off Powerline in Pompano. It's at a used car lot/auto repair shop. If it's the same car, don't waste your time. There's nicer ones in the junkyard!
