yes you are right, you need help alright!
NEVER, NEVER, ever do electrical on cars without disconnecting the Fn battery connections, how foolish!
Did you know, when you get an exhaust done and the have to do some welding, the Battery connections MUST be disconnected!
Crap, when you replace the fuel filter the battery has to be disconnected.
ALWAYS disconnect the battery terminals when performing work on cars unless it's strictly hardware related.
Think about it ...
You now need to call a flat bed tow truck, get it to a dealer and have them "attempt" to resolve the issue with another "used" cluster.
You've most likely damaged either the original or both trying to hot wire it like that.

Come to think about it, before you send it off for HELP.
try disconnecting the Battery terminals, let it sit for more then 30mins, redo your original Cluster, reconnect the battery, try and see if it will recognize the original again.
