needless to say im very happy to finally own a ls but as im sure many of you have experienced they come with there own unique problems ive learned a lot and ave fixed some of the thanks to this forum but i still got a few:
-windshield washer doesn't work
-battery dies quickly 'may need a new one'
- no horn, clock spring? is there anyway to be sure
- courtesy lights wont go off drains battery had to pull the fuse previous owner installed led licence plate lights could that cause this
* and the biggest problem is the tranny jumps when i put in gear an take a sec to engage solenoid?

any and all help would be much appreciated i love this car cant go back to a civic

windshield washer.- does it have water in it? try checking for leaks
battery.- check the charge but yeah you need a new one
horn.- do you have the airbag light on? check the code or number of blinks, if not there is some electrical issue.
courtesy lights.- on the left side of the steering wheel there is a dim intensity control, just lower it, when its on the top the courtesy lights wont go off

yeah there is washer fluid in there it still wont come on, the dimmer is all the way down and the lights still wont go off, and the car beeps 5 times pauses an beeps 5 time again and today i found out that im not getting any power to my deck and no the air bag light is not on

please help

burn the friggen thing ..............junk ....junk ................junk...........

when you press the spray button, do you hear the pump running? (bottom of the front passenger corner of the car)
- no horn, clock spring? is there anyway to be sure
hit the panic button on the remote, does the horn sound? if so, its almost certian that its the clock spring

installed led licence plate lights could that cause this
not likely unless the wiring was F'ed with. a led is just a diode, something else is causing the power to stay on to allow the bulb to light. also note that it is normal for LED bulbs to go very slightly in this car, because the computer switches the ground on and off, and the bulb has power to it all the time. when the computer goes to sleep, there is a very high resistance to ground on the trigger wire, the same amount of power goes through a standard bulb, it just is not enough to heat the filament up enough to glow.

could be the solenoid body.

Car is beeping because the airbag light is probably blown out. Like someone else said hit the lock on the keyfob and listen for the horn.

my man your going to miss that civic soon enough.

I'm taking the more empathetic route, who hasn't thought about torching their LS at some point? if you haven't give it a little more time.

first of what year and engine you got maybe that will help us, the gen 1 has the nob the gen2 you have to set it on the computer for the timer of the lights. if you have a gen2 and you are using the nobs it wont work.

I'm sorry. I'm having trouble keeping up. What question in this thread are you answering?

im sorry i was answering from my phone, i was talking about the courtesy lights, the way to set the timer veries depending on what gen you have, my 01 has nob next to the light switch and when you go up and down on the messege center it displays the seconds all the way up to 10 minutes for the lights to turn off, on the 04 i have to do eaverything through the message senter by using the menu button thats on the bottom of the center air vents. so for this issue it all depends on what year he has.

Well, over the about 10 years and 300K miles we've put on our 4 LSes I haven't. My daughter now drives the 2000 V6 and it has over 178K miles now (she has only put ~4K miles on it in 2 1/2 years!).

That's headlights, not courtesy [interior] lights. The courtesy light timer is fixed and can't be altered. The autolamp headlight timer does work as you describe.

Yes, I'm very satisfied with both of mine.

Only had Cricket since July, but am satisfied with it as well. I got Cricket at an auction, and understood it needed work. Already had some frame rust taken care of, and have to clean a bunch of rust off of the rear end hardware (I think whoever owned it before me liked to park the rear end in the ocean... maybe had a boat???) but overall, piece by piece getting it back into shape. Best of luck with yours

I haven't owned a car I haven't wanted to torch at one point. Usually right after I bust my knuckles open or burn the hell out of my forearm.

I've never owned one that I've had any ill will towards. They've all upheld their end of the bargain.

Actually just today I thought to myself 'I hope my car just gets smashed in the University parking lot today'... Just replaced a toe link and lower ball joint this weekend, drove me up the wall.

I don't think anyone can deny that one.

I can. Every car I've had has served me well. Sure, stuff breaks and needs to be replaced. That's just the nature of owning a relatively sophisticated piece of machinery. My "war wounds" have all been my fault by either using the wrong tool, being in a hurry or tackling a job I should have left to the professionals.

I would rather deal with the coils and plugs every 100K miles than have to adjust the points every 12K and replace the plugs, cap, rotor, points, wires and coil every 24K or so. Then there was the lifters that needed frequent adjustment. Or the carburetors that needed constant adjustment (especially the multi-carb set-ups like my old '57 Volvo!). The fuel pumps didn't last long, either. I spend much, much less time under the hood of any of my LSes than I did my '64 1/2 Mustang.

I'm just a young pup on here lol. Now that you say it that way I can see a little better how far they've come. I don't know if I'd be willing to do that kind of maintenance so frequently. Definitely some fine pieces of machinery that's for sure.

Ill will? Only one. It was a '89 Buick LeSabre with a 3.8 "3800" in it. It was given to my by my grandfather after he moved down to Florida from Indiana. It came fully loaded, including northern road cancer and electrical issues. It would eat alternators, batteries, and coil packs like no ones business. I used to carry the 6 tools I needed and a spare set of parts in the trunk. They were a known issue with GM, and the battery was collateral damage.

One time I went to a machine shop to pick up some parts for work. This was when the car was having electrical issues somewhere towards the end of it's life. I left the car running, walked inside, picked up the part, walked outside, and it had locked itself. YAY!

Ended up borrowing a hammer from the machine shop and smashing the rear quarter window out. I hated that car.

It did teach me one thing, never get a car just to have a car. Get something you genuinely enjoy driving and owning. Only then will it be worth the pain of working on it.

At this point, I just do the fun parts of working on my LS. All the boring stuff, like oil changes and rotating the tires, I just have done. It's nice to be spoiled sometimes :)

It's a double edged sword. The older cars with points and cap/rotor and wires and all that failed a lot more gracefully then the newer stuff. You could usually tell when it was running like crap well before it failed. The brains in newer cars can compensate and make up for a lot of what effects an engine. Now if something fails it is either catastrophic or the car becomes undrivable/unruly. That being said, I'll take the EEC engine over my other options any day. I had a '65 Mustang IL6 with points and carb and all that. Every third oil change was an all day proposition to basically do a tune up. I never got 12K out of a set of points! :)
