Wow... one of the greatest sites I've ever found, and I've probably been close to that "end of the internet" site that guy found on the commercial a few years ago.
I'm John, a business student at East Carolina University in Greenville NC. I own, (that's own as in finally paid the damn thing off) a 2002 LSV8, black on white with the chrome 17's and the premium package (I think). I'm usually broke, leaving me to work on my own car, I've done the caliper and rotor replacement on the rear when advancetrac locked them up and burnt them to hell, the valve cover gasket replacement, and other minor stuff, including that damn R134 refill. I bought it in August of 2005 with 35,000 miles, now it has 124,000. Got a pretty decent price, but I had my issues with the dealer, Vantage Lincoln Mercury in Charlotte NC, they f*ed me good on an IOU for a ding on the rear door. Made the dent worse and I told them to fix it, they repainted the door in the parking lot. The paint doesn't match, I've got orange peel coming through, clear coat is peeling, and I had to get the entire car buffed after they finished because of clearcoat overspray over the whole thing.
I also own (well the bank owns it right now) a 2005 Yamaha Roadstar Warrior, which, if you aren't familiar with them, are incredible bikes. Maroon with black flames, stock. Don't know which I like better, the bike or the car.
Since I'm here among fellow enthusiasts I might as well state my issues and ask the questions I joined up to ask.
* The drivers side heated seat doesn't work, well it works just a little, but barely warms enough to feel. Passenger side is fine. Any ideas?
* Very annoying problem of which I would love to have the answer to. Cruise control works when it wants to. Nothing wrong with the cruise control itself, its the buttons, or rather the response to the button pushing. Sometimes it works great, usually after spending at least an hour with the car running. Sometimes half the buttons work, and sometimes accel is deccel, or off is on, or resume is cancel, so on and so forth. The radio buttons on the steering wheel are beginning to do the same thing. They get worse almost every day. Up is down, down is up, that sort of thing. Haven't pulled the wheel and taken it apart to check connections or anything, just thought someone may know something.
* Climate control doesn't work. I don't think it worked when I bought it, I just didn't check it or didn't check it correctly. Anything set above 70 degrees or so blows hot; even on manual. Here in the south, I only need heat about 3 months out of the year, so I just keep it on 60 and adjust the blower. Been doing that for two years. But I'm hot-natured and my other half is cold natured, and she b*tches incessantly about the cold in my car, so I'd love to know how to fix the dual climate control. Also, the air doesn't blow cold as ice... should it? I mean, it's 98 degrees here... I'm sure that contributes. Any ideas besides a recharge?
* The (presumably) compressor grinds for about a second when the car is turned on with the air on full blast. It will do that on the first start of the day, usually. Is there an oil recharge on these compressors? Any ideas?
* The drivers side rear window goes on and off it's track; sometimes it works perfectly, sometimes it wont go all the way up and you have to jam it up. Any ideas on quick fixes for that would be great.
* The CD changer won't eject CD's unless you press the ejecting CD down with another CD while it's ejecting... otherwise it'll get stuck and won't come out and you'll have to pull it out with a pair of needle nosed pliers. I rarely use it... I just use an iPod with an FM transmitter but I figured someone may have had and solved that problem.
* Last but not least; what parts are interchangeable on the LS's, interior parts. My seats were dyed by the stealership and the dye is peeling. Could I fit an interior from the 03-06 in there? With the bigger console and all? How about heated and cooled seats from the 03-06, slap the newer head with the controls in there? Anyone tried that? How about the pretty white face gauge cluster from the newer ones.
I'm not new to working on cars, my car before the Lincoln was an 88 Saleen Mustang convertible. Drove it to death, had 320,000 miles on the original engine when it was stolen in the summer of 05. I put 200,000 of those miles on myself. I knew that car inside out, did every bit of work on it. Everything from window and door lock actuators to radiator, brake work, clutch, heads, air conditioner, I touched it all and fixed most of it. So I have no aversion to tearing down a car and putting it back together. Hopefully I've finally found a place to get questions answered and answer questions. Look forward to it.
