I've been waiting four months for this moment. FINALLY!
i'm finally ripping out that alpine system in my LS and putting a new one in there. And since i've never seen a thread on here with a complete install, i figured why not be the first to start one? Just a little background...i'm going to be installing 5.25" Focal Access components in the front doors with an amp under the seat. And i'm taking out those factory subs and putting 4 JL Audio speakers in those openings and the door openings. (Two a piece, obviously). With an amp for those, and then two 12's in the trunk. I'm putting in a new double din touchscreen unit to replace the old factory one. I'm starting tomorrow and my friend Andy is gonna be helping me out. So we're planning on this being a two day process. I'm gonna post pictures and everything tomorrow. Just thought it would be good for some people who are beginners in car audio and need some help with their LS's.

Until Tomorrow,
S

Wouldn't it be easier to run speaker wire then power? You could put the amp in the trunk and wire speaker wire to and from it. If the amp has high input in.

Sounds cool.. I have a touchscreen in my LS. Single din, flip screen.

when you say single din flip screen, do you mean the ones that have like the 4 inch screen that slides out

This guy has a point.

But be sure to take alot of photos!

what do you mean? I am putting a four channel under the front seat for the front four speakers. a four channel on the backseat for the four speakers and a two channel on the backseat for the subs.
does that shed some light? or am i not understanding what you mean?
and i will, don't worry about that one.

and i wanted to do a single din with a flip out touchscreen but i didn't like the fact that it covers the middle AC vents. so i just decided to go with something that sits in there like that.

Oh you are putting two speakers in each door? Are you modifying the doorpanels or something?

Also he means mount all the amps in the rear near the battery so you have short power runs, then run all of your speaker wires accordingly forward.

i'm putting two speakers in the rear door, and two in the sub panel. and then two in the front doors and i'm gonna custom mount the tweeters.
i'm pretty confused on how to mount those tweeters, but i'm hoping we'll figure something out.
and yeah, i didn't really think about that. I just don't want the backseat to look way too busy cause then there'll be three amps there. I'll see how much power wire I have and plan accordingly.
Thanks for the tip though. I wouldn't have thought about it cause i forgot the battery was in the rear.

1st gen has two in each door. Hints the 12? speaker system..

Exactly..

CREDIT FOR ONCE!! :D

7? Inch Clarion.. Awesome deck..

by the way. anyone who has done components before have any suggestions on the tweeters? I want to bring the soundstage up so i don't want to put them in the doors. so i'm a bit stumped.

I would put them in the doors or rip out the useless centers and put them there..

Usually they go in the a-pillars but idk if there is enough room behind there to house them..

Honestly it would probably be best setup with kickpods, but that usually isn't very practical for normal people.

I am not sure how the sound system is setup behind each door panel, I have never had one off. But you could probably even mount the tweeters in the panel itself, though imaging may be difficult then.

i am very happy with putting them in the panel that has the defroster vents (right up next to the windshield)

also good luck putting the amp under the seat, there isn't much room at all and if your amp will fit then there will be next to no room for air flow = very bad. i also would just put it in the trunk closer to the battery (shorter high current power wires = less resistance = performance as good an much thicker wire)

I have the tweeters flush mounted in the doors:

If I were to do it again, I would try to mount them in the a pillar, pointed a little towards the windshield. maybe about a quarter of the way up the pillar. But as has been pointed out, I don't know if flush mounting would be a possibility.
And the amp for the sub mounted to the back side of the rear seat. Probably the most common place for mounting it. I still have to clean up those wires. The amp is relatively new to me:

Why not go with a double din & have that nice factory look that comes with it? You can get some nice double din units for good prices now. Here's a pic of mine with my JVC before I put my pioneer in.

pektel, i've seen some of your pictures around the forum and that's where i got the idea from the doors. But it just seems like it would sound better up higher, which you said, but i've never done it so i don't know.
it seems like everyone is telling me to just put all the amps on the backseat, so i guess i'm just gonna have to do that. I just only have 50 feet of speaker wire so i'll have to be conservative.
and dennis, that is what i am going to do. Other people were saying have a single din with a flipout monitor but i didn't like that it covered the AC vents so i went with a double din touchscreen unit for that factory look that you have.

.

Do you really need to replace the stock wiring? You could just use a 9 wire cable from the amp and splice into the harness at the back of the HU.

Double din's ftw, I got a pioneer avic z2 with a built in hard drive.. cd's are a thing of the past! Nav, rear view camera, Ipod connects, dvd's while rolling.. Cant beat it.

and its a lot easier then going through four small tight door boots (trust me) plus a roll of speed wire only cost about $20
