I recently acquired a one owner 1993 Mark VIII with 73K miles on it. Yes you read right 73k miles.

I have owned and raced Mustangs for 15 years but this platform is new to me.
I am amazed at how hard this thing pulls. So far all I have done to her is the following:

Mobil 1 synthetic 5 w30
removed air silencer and cut out front of air box
swapped out factory plugs for autolite 103s ( colder plug )
been using premium fuel

next weekend I am flushing the trany and refilling with Mercon V.

after the trany flush I will take her to the track for some baseline numbers.

My question is what do these tanks respond to the best?

I owned a 96 COBRA and noticed that as the mods piled on the low end torque went to hell but the upper power band would sing and pull hard. I am assuming its the same with these Marks? And if so this might be an issue getting this heavy thing to leave the line.

Also from the track times I have seen it seems that the biggest issue with these cars is in the 60ft times. Not surprising heavy cars have a hard time leaving. But their MPH at the trap indicates once they are moving the are MOVING.

I feel confident though I will not be sure until I take her to the track that this thing can see a high 13 as long as I can get her to leave hard.

Basically I would like to hear from the folks who have been racing these Marks.

Will drag radials and some weight reduction be enough to get this thing out of the hole?

In the end I would like to get her in the low 13s with the least amount of mods possible.

As the years have gone by I have changed from wanting the most power to wanting the quickest ET with the least amount of power. I also see quite often that a lot of guys ignore the 60ft and spend most of their time and money on power.

One more question ....does anyone know who has the fastest NA mark with factory long block?

Gears, stall, tune. You will need a traklok though if you get gears, otherwise you'll just spin and spin.

It's a totally diferent beast than the '96 Cobra. This car weighs a few pounds more. She's a sleek, quiet, powerful machine but don't get disappointed when you see the numbers. Remember, she's only got 280hp... I think it's 225 to the wheels? These guys on here will explain to you way better than I will. I stopped racing 12 years ago. Never took a Mark VIII to the track in my life. One thing's for certain, its a very fun car & ppl are shocked to see the power they have. They think it's a front wheel drive grandpa car. I have owned 2 '93's & hands down they are the fastest of the Mark VIII's.

Anyway, welcome to the forum, nice to see a fellow Miami man on board! We gotta meet up sometime! Check out the link to the video I just did this past week. Planning another video in about 6-7 weeks that includes 6 Mark VIII's... 7 if you join us. ;)

13s are possible. Low 13s are difficult though.
4.10s or 4.30s.
High stall converter.
Jmod.
Dual exhaust.
Headers.
Intake work.
That kind of stuff.

And Right on the Mark is in the 12s on the stock block gen 1.
Driller has another fast gen 1. And DLF has a very quick gen 2.

That would be me. 12.810 with 1.72 60ft. That's with stock engine not even a valve cover takin off. Stock from TB to oil pan. What where the times you where running with your 96 Cobra? Dude you should read all my threads if you don't think we are twins. Also I went 1.58 60ft on jug. Thats with stock CV shafts. How does 1.58 sound?

^^^^ Now we’re talking.

Weight? What did you do about the weight?

Read my threads. LOL I took out front pass seat and put in a pass race bucket out of my stang in drivers spot. Drag rims and tires. Other stuff.
"Took the restrictor plate off to give the Red Dragon a little more juice. But it's not exactly street legal, so keep it on the down low." LOL

You can see run here.

I'm gonna start calling you frank the tank..that cool? Lol

Nice vid man, the car looks clean.

Let me know when you guys get together. Fuddruckers?

Last time I went to Fudruckers on US-1 it was in 2004. I even think they are clsoed already.

Anyway, take a look at this little site.

The 2nd one. It's in West Kendall. I haven't gone in 3-4 months but I'm down to start going again. We'd have to get there early if we want a good spot though.

Also, if you have facebook, this is their link; http://www.facebook.com/pages/Sir-Pizza-Car-Show/175673355857221

If you want weight reduction keep driving a mustang, because that is what you will have if you take allot of weight out of this car. In-fact I’m in the process of adding 50lbs of steel to mine. Use Google and search this forum for a few weeks, 95% of your questions will be answered in one of those threads

If you want 13's, have about 5k to freely spend and it shouldn’t be a problem. Gears, trac-loc, stall, shift kit, tune, full exhaust with headers and a pair of DR's. Power adders are needed to be owning the 12's.

$5000 to run 13s? Wowzers!

I think if this thing looses 200lbs., gets her battery put in the trunk, it could run 13s with a good tune, gears and some drag radials. Thats keeping it all motor.

I am sure a 75 shot and some drag radials would get her in the 13s too.

I am looking for some drag wheels but it seems that a hub conversion is necessary. Might go the barn yard dragster route and just get another spare to run as front runners and then use a set of drag radial and mount them on the factory snow flakes.

Its funny how many go to the strip without some sort of drag tires. Just the addition of some good sticky rubber will help tons at the strip. I remember test and tune night with my 07 GT. I never lost a race and was running high 8s in the 1/8. What did I have done to the GT??? Drag radials and a conservative tune. No gears, no exhaust, no weight reduction nothing. Now high 8s might not seem AMAZING but when you are surrounded by 400 hp cars running low to mid 9s because they lack good tires and the knowledge to work the tree it is quite rewarding.

If you take the seats out, and actually drop 200lbs out of this car what's the point of having lincoln? Better to go fast and be comfortable.

I ran 13.31 @ 4040lbs on 555 radials W1.81 60ft. I could have did more mods then to improve that time that I did in the 12.8 run.

I don't see why taking the seat out while your st the track makes it not a Lincoln that's the fun part of disgracing doing whatever u can to go faster if some guy driving a mustang takes his seat out is it not a mustang anymore it's not like its a permanent thing

I think what he's getting at is
That like me I don't go to the track often and when in a quick light to light race you can't ask the guy next to you to wait while you pull your seats and stereo out.

But when someone asks me for my best time I give it. And when I'm at the track racing, everyone is watching they get it. It comes down to 2 diff crowds the street car rims tint navi subs crew and the drag racer. To each his own.

If your on the street wut ever but when at the track I want to get everything out of it it's not that big a deal to pull the rear seat and subwoofer out
