so my sister and her boyfriend are down from mass for a week visit. we all got together today at my house for a cookout, them two, my parents and my nephew all came over. they were here all day, they left around 7 tonight to go back home. so they leave and everything is calm and quiet again, until my phone rings 20 minutes later with my mom crying and my dad going off in the background. some scum bag p.o.s or multiple p.o.s's broke into their house. they didnt trash it at all, but they did steal perscription drugs from my dads room, tore the screen, stole his brand new 438 dollar lcd tv from his tv stand, took some tools and my nephews cell phone before taking off. the cops got prints off the window sill, and off my dads safe in his dresser. hopefully they get the prints to a suspect. my dad was pretty pissed but took it alot better than i thought. he asked me if i want to go with him this weekend and renew his pistol permit, so i told him i am going to get mine too, and we're both going gun shopping too, he said he'll buy mine as long as its reasonable. he's already got a smith and wesson 38 special picked out. i think i am going to try for a consealed permit, not that i need it, but why not! i cant believe their house got broken into, unreal. after i calmed my mom down i went over there just to check things out, i felt like a dick getting off the phone and staying home, so i went over for a few hours till i knew they were fine again. they only live 15 minutes away. i'm glad my sister and mark are here though staying with them, i know if my house got broken into i wouldnt feel comfortable in the house that same night if it was just me and my wife, i'm glad they have company there, little easier on the mind!
 
Yeah, that sucks! We had a minor incident ourselves involving a contractor trying to scam us out of 5000 dollars. (hence I wasn't in chat Wednesday) Wife is also gonna see about getting her gun license. I will too, soon as I'm a citizen.

Concealed permits FTW too!

Lol. Well, my status changes to permanent resident in a couple of months, then in a year or so? I think I can apply for full citizenship. After that, I'll have shotguns and pistols galore! :p
 
That sucks...I was broke into, they took everything I had loaded it into my truck.
I felt violated, when the anger went away...I wound up moving.
The cops printed everyting, never caught the scum.
It took a long time for me to get over it.
Hope your mom does ok...sounds like your dad has a way to deal with it.
Hope they catch the bastards.

That sux. I know exactly how they feel. My house got broken into about 2 months ago. scum bags even tried to come back when i was home. Luckily the dog scared the off. The worst part about it is that the cops didnt really even care.
 
get your permit! I have had mine for about 4 years now. I live just outside of philadelphia pa (filthydelphia) and it is amazing how far the scum will travel out of the city. My parents neighbor was shot with a .45 cal (and lived) becouse 4 pieces of s**t come up from the city and tried to steal his atv that was for sale on his lawn. They must have seen it outside during the day and came back at night to get it. I was sleeping when it happened but woke up when I heard the shots. There is 15 guns in my house between my father,brother and I so if they tried that crap here, they would have had a BAD day;)
 
Strange, I live five miles from a prison and we've never had any trouble. Then again I live in a farm community, and I think about %75 of the homes have at least one gun. I keep my SKS by my bed with a 20 round clip on my night stand
 
I strongly recommend the Springfield XD line. Unbelievably smooth firing weapons. They come in a variety of calibers since it is a line instead of a model. You may want to antisipate concealing it if you think you might. Make sure it is something you can easily hide on your person.

Home defence and not going with a CCW, dont bother with a hand gun. You have to keep shooting hand guns to stay at the top of your game. Iff you are going to just use this weapon for home defence than nothing in this world fits the bill better than a 12ga. Remmington makes a model called the home defender. It a factory short barrel (all company make them) with a decent mag capacity. You can load it up with 4 birdshot and it wont go through walls, but will drop an intruder where they stand. The other nice part of a shot gun is with the blast radius, you can wake up from a coma with 6 years or sleep in your eyes, and still get a good shot off if need be. And I think we all know that the sound of a pump action racking back is universal for "FREEZE MOTHER FV(KER"
 
damn that sucks man!!!!!! Hope your parents are doing ok....... Defenitely get the permit.....damn gay new jersey is impossible to get a permit to carry.....BUT the scum better not try to break in my house while I'm home...unless the want to feel the power of the magnum that is :)
 
Sorry to hear that Jamie, it usually takes some time for the cops to catch these bastards, meanwhile checking out the local pawn shops might help track down the TV.
I'm pretty sure you can get a shotgun without having to be a citizen, just a permanent resident... when i wanted to get one they said my permanent resident status wasn't going to be a problem. this site has some info, so when you get your permanent resident status martin you can get buck wild and start hoarding guns. http://www.vrolyk.org/guns/alien-laws.html
 
I know that in pennsylvania you can keep a gun in your home but you need a carrying permit outside of your house. Check the laws in florida bro.

many people think a handgun has this special majical power to stop an intruder.

most poeple dont realize that unless you cause an instantaneous decrease in blood pressure the perp is likely GOING TO GET HIS HANDS ON YOU.

you have to remember, a person does NOT grab you with an ARM they dont have!

A shotgun can and will cause a rapid enough decrease in blood pressure to STOP an intruder.

You might shoot a burgular 5-6 times with a handgun and STILL GET STABBED.

ALSO many people dont realize actually how difficult firing a handgun can be, especially an easy to conceal short barrel gun.

I doubt many could hit a human target with a handgun mere seconds after being woken up suddenly.

With a handgun you have to practice practice practice.
With a shotgun they are "st00pid easy, kodak point and shoot"..then grab a mop

This I agree with. Someone did a study and proved that it takes less time for someone with a knife to get into stabbing range from 20 feet away than it takes your local average cop to pull his handgun out of his holster.

Wrong. You still have to practice, even with a street sweeper... shotgun... You have to know where the safety is, be able to disengage it in a panic situation, get a good idea what the pattern of the particular shotgun is, and most important, you have to be familiar with the loud sounds a shotgun makes. Last thing you want is to miss (It actually happens) with a shotgun then scare yourself with the boom.

Now, most half intelligent crooks know what a shotgun rake sounds like. Very few will want to play after they hear that sound.


All in all, I agree. Home defense, you want a shotgun. Less risk of over penetration of the walls, (it kind of sucks when you pump 10 rounds into the bad guy, and 5 of them go clean through him, then through the wall behind him and into your sleeping kids), and of course, the best reason, the "Point and Click" interface.

Oh, and Glocks are overrated.

Just remember what Gordon Liddy says--as a convicted felon (resulting from his involvement in Watergate), he can't own firearms, but Mrs. Liddy has quite a nice collection. :D

BTW, I don't know about in your state, but under Federal law, as I understand it, you only need permanent resident status, not full citizenship, to be eligible to buy a firearm. Previously, you only had to be in the US legally, but that got changed a few years ago ('05?).
