So am i suppose to spend all my time reading
All of it? Of course not.
Maybe spend a little time.
As a professional soldier, I'd expect that you'd have a personal desire to have a better understanding of history.
You say every Democratic administration abused the Military, i take it you are a Republican, A democrat would say every republican administration used the military to fight personal wars.
An intelligent Democrat with an understanding of history wouldn't though.
And I didn't say
every Democrat administration abused the military, I merely posed a challenge. One that, had you ever exhibited even the slightest interest in history, would have been able to discuss.
A republican would say Clinton was a horrible leader, a Democrat would say he eliminated the debt that the country had.
Actually no one would say that, but it's all besides the point.
Differing perspectives don't mean it's impossible to learn or understand history. Nor do the differing perspectives mean it's not worth the effort to do so.
I would rather base my opinions off my experiences, so far all i know is Bush and the GWOT.
By your own admission, you're experience is profoundly limited.
Without the ability to identify, recognize, and respond to historic trends, you're greatly limiting your ability to understand the circumstances you live in.
Again, these are skills that are usually considered very important for a soldier. Learning from the mistakes of the past means you're spared from making them again.
People say Obama will destroy the military, this remains to be seen! i have to run to an award ceremony, i will return in about 90 mins
Using you're logic, we should just wait to see if he ultimately destroys it (note: I'm not saying he'll "destroy" the military) then after he leaves office, immediately relegate that information to the dust bin of history, so successive generations like yourself can possible repeat the mistakes, or lack the wisdom to repeat the successes, of the past.
As you well know, the world is a dangerous place right now.
A good understanding of the history, the foreign policy philosophies/approaches, or even just the military history of the past century would be extremely valuable for you right now.
Just understanding one book like "DIPLOMACY" by Kissinger is as good as a college degree when it comes to understanding.
