ive got this 92 ltc and i know that i put 5 quarts of oil in it very recently, but the dipstick comes up dry no there is no oil on the ground under where i park it or where i changed it. what could this be caused by. now i have no way to tell how much there is.

Your vehicle either has a leak or your engine is burning oil. Top it up to the correct level and start it up. Give it a few revs and look for bluish smoke from the exhaust. Let it run for a few mins and check all around the top and bottom of the engine for leaks. If you are burning oil then some engine work is on the cards...

it has always burned a little oil but the engine does not smoke that much only when it starts slightly and it isnt smoking any more than usual. i couldnt have burned 5 qts in a week i would have a smoke screen behind me.

could something be blocking the dipstick port?

hmm... Strange! Now, lets think... Is 5 qts the right amount? Are you waiting long enough after switching off to check the level? (enough time for the oil to drain back to sump) Are you checking it on level ground? Any oil on the stick at all? Have you checked that the dip stick tube is bolted up tight and hasnt lifted? Are you pushing the stick right down? I can't see there being a blockage. You could try sticking something else down there just to see if you are getting a reading or if there is indeed an obstruction. (stiff wire or a longer dipstick from another vehicle) I dont mean to insult your intelligence, just covering all the usual stuff that i would do. Weird! LOL.

yeah checked all that other stuff except for sticking a longer stick in there ill give that a shot (but not while running it)

Lol! No you wouldnt want to do that! Failing all that you could drain the oil back out and see how much was really in there, then put it back in and top up as needed. (a pain i know but i cant think of much else to suggest at the moment)

yep thats what i did last night. it was just low enough to not be touched by the stick aka half full yikes! so i topped it off again and im gonna start checking it every day when i get home. it doesnt smoke except a little on startup, mabey i have some sort of leak as i go down the road im gonna see what develops.

Yeah possibly. Keep an eye out in the rear view mirror for any blue haze too!
