Just got back from shopping. Wally Mart Mobil I 5.1 qts Syn, $26.95. Stopped at PB's same oil $39.95. Had to get the new Pur Syn filters at PB's and found out on Tue,Wed, and Thurs they give Vets 10% off. Priced some tires that were on the showroom floor and they did'nt have them and could'nt get them. Buy 3 and get one free, if they had them.

Kinda blows your mind that wally world oil is cheaper then auto parts stores. I buy my oil at wally world.

Pep boys suck. You are also buying the wrong kind of oil filter. FL820S is the only filter I will run on a Modular..... unless you can afford the $15 Mobil filter.

I refuse to use or enter a Wall Mart. It is basically treason to your local community of small vendor business in my book.

You may say that and it may be some what true but wally worlds here employ alot of the locals.

People shopping at walmart are 'better' than me. I buy just about everything off of Amazon now, which doesn't even have retail outlets in every town like walmart to employ people. And Amazon's prices are almost always even lower than walmart too.

I always try to buy locally. I have good relations with both my local parts stores and the local Ford dealership. As I have those kinds of relationships I pay quite a bit less than retail and often, with shipping counted in, less than I can get it online. I am now a 'preferred customer' at Ford and get about 15% - 20% off most parts. I will get even cheaper prices when I get to the best price level which will happen fairly soon. I get those kind of deals off both my parts guys too. Paid $50 for an alcohol sniffer marked at $74 at Lordco the other day for a random example.

A tip. I ask for deals and get em'. "Can you do a better price?" is my standard line.

Working poor.
They want to hire more part time here, less full time, no benefits.
We call it Wallmarting.

People have a choice to work elsewhere. When I go there to buy my oil, I had nothing to do with any of those people in there that filled out their application for employment. If they work only part time, that means they have time to look for work somewhere else if they're not happy there.

Someone choosing not to buy oil from them, surely isn't going to shut them down. Not talking about you Kirk, just in general. I'm going where it's cheapest. I could care less who works where lol. It was better when the old man was alive. He did at least buy USA products only back in the day.

Your entire economy is in the toilet just because your corporate masters are only interested in themselves. That's why so many of your jobs are gone to China and the likes of Wall Mart have crushed your local economies. The big push to put everyone in their own homes no matter what the eventual cost crushed the rest of economy.

If the regular guy in the street is prepared to take advantage of Wall Mart etc no matter what the detrimental effects are then you richly deserve what has happened and what is to come.

+1 I'll pay a few bucks more for oil at a parts store

I'd rather speak to knowledgeable people who can help with parts questions and go the extra mile when I'm in a jam. Making sure good, knowledgeable people have a decent wage and health insurance is more important to me than a few pennies on a bottle of oil.

As with everything, you get what you pay for. You might get a quality bottle of oil, but good, conscientious people in the service industry are dwindling.

I buy my car parts at auto stores. I am not going to just give away 10-15 dollars of my money to a store just because.(5 qrt jug) I find best deal and go there for everything. I give parts stores local around 5-10K in parts biz every year. And I still call all 5 for best prices.

$$

I support my local auto stores but $$ in my pocket are the best ones. I have 3 cars and that's 20 qts to change the oil X2 times a year=40 qts. Saving $2.55 per qt=$102.00 per year. And it's fun to look at the strange people that shop at WM.

I have my own personal ax to grind with wally world.
Long story wont trash this thread with it.

Can't blame anyone for getting the best deal they can.
I try to look at the big picture.
Do my best to not shop wally world.

My money is my money, if I wish to save 10-15 bucks on a jug of oil by getting it at walmart vs big parts stores that's exactly what i'll be doing.

Fyi, I hate Pep Boys.

Agreed. Especially with our limited (re: nonexistent:D) budget, I have to save all the money I can wherever and whenever I can. If that means going to wally world and getting a jug of oil for a better price than Auto Zone or Advance Auto, then so be it.

I have never stepped foot inside a Pep Boys. I don't think I have ever even seen one anywhere near me. Can't speak anything about them. Unless I need something ASAP, I'll get it from rockauto and just let it come to my door and know it's Motorcraft. Peoples medical insurance isn't none of my concern when it comes to the upkeep of either one of my vehicles and if I can save, I'm saving. I can get good oil cheap, pack of underwear and groceries at the same store. Take those savings and buy some Christmas lights, at the same store. Try that one at the parts store. :)

Walmart. 15.5 quarts of syn at 21$ a gallon or 30$

Plus I heard Walmart is going to start not carrying MC anymore. But fram and Mc oil filters happen to be the same for the 6.0

ROFL.. I love these economic discussions

For those that haven't figured out that the "economy" is nothing more than a made up idea to aide you in spending money and paying taxes
