Out of ideas, can't fix ETC Failsafe.. Please help.

But every time I’d put a cold coil in it would run good for a bit. Sunday I’ll go ahead and pull the plug and share a pic.

Interesting...I've definitely seen worse ...they look pretty good...nothing out of the ordinary here...I would think a smoke machine is your best option to be sure it's not leaking air somewhere...you said you changed your fuel filter right?

Under splash guard front driver/left side ...you need the special tool to disconnect..it more than likely is rusted so be patient with the tool

Need to crank with fuel pump fuse out to depressurize?

You can, but I always just throw a rag over the connection before opening it. Not much gasoline comes out. The rag soaks up most of it, but more importantly, keeps any of it from spraying in your eyes.

Got the fuel filter and tool today. Rockauto just received my return on the NGK coils so I’ll order the motorcraft ones when I get a credit.

Wow great customer service. No questions asked. Ordered my motorcraft coils and NGK 7090s today. I’ll keep you all updated. Recommended gap was .044” for the ngk’s. Is that acceptable?

    • Apply a light film of silicone brake caliper grease and dielectric compound to the inside of the coil boots before installation.

Got my plugs today. The coils will be here Monday.
Just want to add there is a recommended torque on the plugs when seating them...Call me crazy but I truly believe this is really crucial to the longevity of our plugs life on the 3.9

Or what about an actual actual accelerator position issue? Would it cause a crap idle? Once I press on accelerator it clears up after 1500 rpm or so.

So now that you know it's not a Coil Over plug issue ... are you still convinced that your throttle body is working 100%? I know you said you replaced it ...that doesn't mean it's not at fault ...also did you ever try replacing the MAF? Even if you buy a new one and it makes no difference you can still return it and get your money back...at this point without throwing anymore parts at it without having a clue whats going on ...I would say you would need a professional mechanic thast knows these cars inside and out take a look at it...the only problem is there are few and far between that know these cars...

That’s about where I’m at. I’m just so baffled as to it running perfect until warm, and then when it does go to etc failsafe it runs rough, but under throttle it clears up. I talked to the previous owner and he said he had the O2 sensors changed at one point and he said the symptoms sound similar but idk if the idle would be that bad or not? Does it make sense after operating temp? How can I test maf?

You can test your MAF with Forscan and then report back with your numbers/reading I can let you know if they are checking out
