2004 LS v8

Hey guys, without going into too much detail my car needs a new PCM. I've contacted the dealer and it's on back order of up to 6 months. My options are: online (refurb/reman) or online (tasca/fordpartsgiant).

My mechanic advised me against the refurbished and remanufactured PCM stating that those are PCMs that had my exact problem and will once again suffer the same fate shortly after installation. He says he's seen it more than a dozen times.

So I'm left with fordpartsgiant and tasca. I typed in my VIN# and no PCM part came up. However, upon searching for the 2006 v8 I BELIEVE I located the PCM. Part # 6W4Z-12A650-LB. Can anyone confirm the following:

1. Will 2003 - 2006 v8 PCMs fit any v8 2003 - 2006 ?
2. Is 6W4Z-12A650-LB the correct part number? I ask because there about 4 different part numbers showing on fordpartsgiant - all with the same exact price. (see link: http://www.fordpartsgiant.com/parts-list/2006-lincoln-ls/engine-modules-and-sensors.html)

Lastly, I searched the part number and found an ebay listing for the part # (link : http://www.ebay.nl/itm/BRAND-NEW-OE...-2006-LINCOLN-LS-6W4Z-12A650-LB-/281257353504) and the image is the image of the PCM (I've already removed it and that's exactly what it looks like).

Appreciate the help.

I'm not an expert on this but recently I had a "new" transmission put in my 03, I also needed to replace the pcm and the shop that was doing the work told me ONLY 2003 pcm's were compatible with my 2003 LS (depending on manufacturing months) that 2004-2006 pcm's wouldn't work. Maybe the same goes for the 04's-06's models.

Thank you for the response, Exqzme. Can anyone else confirm if this is true or not? I would hate to buy a $700 part that wouldn't be compatible.

I'm the Parts manager at a Ford dealer, PM me the last 8 digits of your VIN, and I can tell you the exact PCM calibration and part number you need.

Source for LS parts??????

Sure, but don't expect any miracles. Half the stuff for our cars is long since discontinued. I've managed to find several items sitting in other dealer's inventories for my personal vehicle. But it's getting harder every day. That being said, I happy to help if you're looking for a particular part.

For reference (and you may already have this), the part number off of my '04 V8 PCM is 4w4a-12a650-aaa. The calibration code for it is ACY0.

I'm teetering on just getting this thing rebuilt, my car has been sitting since the end of August collecting dust. I called the place Gus recommended in another thread and they are willing to rebuild my pcm for $175 and give me a 1 year warranty. It's not the avenue I want to take but if I ever want to see this car running again it looks like my only option.

My car is in the same position as yours - I think the transmission issues are PCM related. I just wonder what they would "rebuild" inside of the PCM. All of the components are coated in silicone. DSCN1078.jpg

That's conformal coating. It adds to the difficulty, but it melts away. It's still very possible to unsolder and resolder components.

I just wonder how they would be able to test and determine which components failed. Obviously I don't know much about the process. It seems strange to me that there are all of these PCMs with only transmission related problems.

"conformal coating" ... Boy that brings back some memories, used to work at Digital Equipment of Canada and they had such a process down the lines after burn in. Also used to work at a place where TEMPEST Emanation Control solutions was the specialty, ruggedized boards for military applications. Still a few subs underwater with my handy work of the MITEL super switch SX2000 telecom units, all ruggedized in shock proof cabinets. That conformal coating used to go on manually under a UV light or it was inspected, I can't recall 100%. Those were the days! ... back when my first cell phone didn't fit in any front pocket.

TY Big, it's not looking good for the LS, luckily I really don't need it anymore - but still. I'm going to try the rebuilder and see what happens!

for what it's worth, why not take a chance and try a used pulled PCM, might be ok.

... the MITEL super switch SX2000 telecom units...

Small world. I did a contract design for Mitel once (sometime in the 90s). It was in Ogdensburg if I recall correctly, next to a metal hospital of some sort.

Mitel HQ here in town for many years, big leader in the voice telecom industry. Newbridge Networks tried to move in on his own territory at the time.

DEC got bought out by Compaq, handed us walking papers once they obtained the 64bit Alpha AXP technology. Cashed out my matched stock options and took a holiday, road FL around on a full dresser HD for 13 days to clear the system.

+1

Tried a used PCM was slightly better but still bad lol.. I have two already lol

^ ugh, when it rains it pours.

You don't even want to know what I've been through with this car in the last four months, it's been UN REAL

Don't feel bad, I almost went for a brand new first gen motor just for a back up until I came to my senses of realizing I needed that like another hole in my head.

The only reason I'd do that is if I could flip it. Unfortunately, my main focus right now is to get this car up and running and probably sell it. If Mlara is still looking, I'd probably give it to him very cheap. Although, I hope he isn't.

I have not! Money is literally flying out of my bank account during X-Mas so it'll probably be in two weeks. I'm in no rush, but I know the vendor I'll use and have the PCM sitting next to me right now.
