That was my initial suggestion from the get go. But again... you missed the mention of pulling a trailer.
Just keep on bending and breaking stuff. You're doing just fine. But I seriously hope other members, (especially newbies), don't follow your example.
Fair enough, but we don't know the size of the trailer in question so we're both speculating and I'm just assuming that he's not going to try and pull a 4000 lb pop up RV or something since he said small trailer, and apparently you're assuming he is so one of us is wrong, lol.
But regardless if you stay under the payload limit what's your issue? As you well know you can even exceed that payload limit slightly without problems, no different than filling up your back seat or your trunk provided hitch is attached correctly, I understand and agree with your point about attaching to the bumper that's not rated for it, but if you attach to the frame properly like a normal hitch like previous poster says his is you will have zero problems, zero.
You're very knowledgeable about certain things, but you're a little crazy on the by the book bs. Those are mere safety guidelines for your average retard. and just like George Carlin said, just imagine how dumb the average person you meet on the street is and then understand that half of the population is even dumber than that. that's why all these low ratings and stupid safety regulations exist, for the lowest common denominator. as you well know and have done yourself you can easily and safely exceed those ratings with experience, driving slower, allowing the stopping distance and whatnot.
It's quite clear that you've never been poor or worked in time sensitive situations and had to make do with what you have. Where I live in farm country everybody fixes things the way I do, it's just simply how it's done when you're not millionaires born with a silver spoon in your mouth. Sometimes you need a quick temporary fix to get you through the day and if you've never worked in those situations you will never understand that concept I guess. But like I said before, in a perfect world with unlimited funds I would agree with you but in the real world it's simply not always possible or feasible. in a farming environment you simply don't always have time or money to sit around and wait for some mechanic to come do it properly with the OEM parts the cost twice as much.
I've actually been waiting over a week for a guy to come fix something on my swather but if he doesn't show up pretty soon I'm going to fix it myself, these are the problems we deal with. Typical farms are 3,500 to 20,000 acres around here, 60 miles from the nearest town of 30,000 people. might be a little different where you live where you have tiny 150 acre farm or less, but we cover some ground and have a lot of work to do. some of my temporary fixes even last for years and years, so you really have no clue what you're talking about in these situations, but for what it's worth I do understand where you're coming from and would tend to agree with you mostly when it comes to this specific car at least, but you're simply way overly protective and incorrect in your way of thinking sometimes. No offense. like my ingenious fan fix you got your panties all in a wad over to temporarily cure my overheating problem for a couple weeks until I could afford the proper parts to do it correctly, worked great no issues, you'd have been walking for 2 weeks I guess. I easily temporarily fixed it with a short piece of wire that cost almost nothing. No problems.
you know a lot about this car and I have learned a lot from reading your posts and I do value your advice, but when you're wrong I'm going to tell you, that's just the way I am, sorry about your feelings. There are no safe spaces around me, lol
