Refinished my lights - PICS!!!

Great job with the lights man. I had perfect headlight on mine, but I got my angel eyes pre-installed on pretty cloudy lights, so I gotta do mine soon.

side note: no offense to any Mark VIII owners out there, but Marks may be nice cars, but they are ugly and stupid looking. If any car looks like a Taurus, its a 1998 Mark VIII.

finished this weekend

completed this this weekend.... Thanks Myfirstlincoln for the awesome write-up. Was able to do it in about 2-3 hours.

Followed his write almost completely. I did find that as long as you have something to push the headlight against, a box isn't necessary. i just used a folding table and lined up things behind the light so i could have the lens on the edge of the table... never moved...300, 500 and 1000 grits went fine. make sure you take your time with the 3000 and rubbing compound though. heres some pics. sorry i forgot to take before pics. they were extremely bad though. far worse than lincoln's lights above... oxidized on top and tons of chips and nicks.

G-Rell....your lights look sick - GREAT WORK!

Glad I could contribute something to the site since it seems I always gain information from everyone but don't have much to offer :p

I did this today.

I have to say that the 3M kit is really really good, i used maguilars before and it is crap in comparison.

I also got extra sand paper, 2000 and 3000.

Everything worked great but the clear coating part with home depot goodies

I tried with scott paper and it was shiney nut you could see Lines from the paper. I tried few times. Not too good. Redid the headlight without the clear coat. Still looks like new.

The other headlight i tried to put the clear coat on with a spray gun.

The head light got all foggy. Had to redo the whole thing again.

I think that problem is in the bigger can clear coat, home
Depo didnt carry the exact one the OP used. They suggested something similar but it didnt work.

The clear coat and the miniral water were not mixing together at all. The thicker clear coat would stay in the bottom all the time.

Bummer, maybe the one you got isn't oil based. Which one did you get?
I went to home depot and they didn't have that one either.

Just order it online, I will soon.

Maybe. Kinda sucked cause i had to redo from beginning. Oh well. I will try ordering that one.

G-rell hose came out new!

I would guess this process would work on other headlights as well, I think im going to try this on my wifes car, they have this at my home depot and lowes.

This ones correct. it took me a while to find it at HD (the spar urethane threw me off. I also got the mineral spirits in the white square plastic bottle from klean- strip. when you mix it it turns light brown...like adding creamer to coffee.... when appling in to the headlights, it goes on very cloudy (milky like) but it starts to clear up fast. dries super clear... u also need to remix after it sits. the spirits likes to settle to the bottom.

Not yet :D hoping to get to it this weekend. I might be changing up the chrome a bit... ;) http://www.duplicolor.com/products/shadow/

Thanks... yeah i had one headlight leaking i couldn't get to seal...tried everthing. I hoping I had a hairline crack in the lens. I have another set of headlights that dont leak, but didn't want to have to redo angel eyes :)... I def. plan on doing other sets. The instructions in the kit are awesome. Im not sure how well it would fix yellowing though.

Well I went ahead and did some work today!

Followed the thread like it said and they came out great! should have seen what they looked like before

Very nice. I recently redid mine using the 3m kit and there difference was fantastic but they still arent quite as lustrous as your results. May have to invest in that minwax mixture. Seems to really "finish" the job. Ba-dum-tish

Dude im telling you its the minwax mixture that really finishes the job really well, i got my stuff at wally-world.

Very nice. Can barely tell there's a lens on the fog lights. I'm looking to do this as well. Need to find a place to rent the tools as I'm quite a drive from home. Doesn't look to difficult.

I read a previous reply, you can use Lamin-X on these without worry of trapping the heat and melting the lens?

Also, @manoli, just guessing but are you going for an '06 swap soon. Sorry to ruin the surprise if it is but why else would you have Gen II headlights just sittin' there, all refinished and sexy as all get out.
