Coolant spraying all over the road driving i see a trail! Car isbover heating and now im stuck in this parking lot. Lots of bubbling sound coming from the coolant reservoir. Im so crappy lucked. Ugh

How do i fix this?

tow it home. replace whatever plastic cooling system piece broke.
the heat makes the plastic brittle and it cracks.
time for some new cooling system parts.

Check coolant reservoir first for cracks. That tends to be the most common culprit for massive cooling loss.

My 06 did the same thing. Luckily I was close to home and had a jug of coolant in the trunk. For me it wasn't the reservoir but it was the thermostat housing, but once I took it apart almost all the plastic parts were damaged down to the down tube.

What causes the coolant to spray thru the bottom? I cant see any cracks or where exactly its spraying from. Hose? Reservoir? Is the hose hard to replace?

It'll be the reservoir, not the hose. If you buy the Ford part (Max is a good source), it will come with the hose already attached.

The tricky part is that due to the thermal properties of plastic it expands and contracts constantly when the vehicle is in use due to heating and cooling. When the coolant is heated it can cause cracks that otherwise would not be visible or significant enough to allow coolant to escape due to the expansion of the plastics. Additionally the LS uses a pressurized cooling system so not only do you have tiny cracks opening up when heated but you also have significant pressure (not sure exact PSI but the caps for the reservoirs are rated up to 16) forcing coolant out through any tiny opening.

In addition to the replacement Joe mentioned above there is a Dorman OEM replacement (603-207) as well for significantly cheaper than the OEM tank but it's probably not as high quality as the OEM. I just received mine from partsgeek and one of the retaining tabs was broken off in shipping leaving a large crack in the bottle. I'd highly recommend Max as well thoguh should you go the OEM route. Miles better than dealership prices and he's a really patient guy as well. I must have requested a dozen or so quotes from him before finally deciding on an order.

How do I get in contact with this guy Max? How hard is the job? I have a LS manual in the trunk. Any special tools needed?

:pWoah, easy thunder.... Max is the ad on the right... 5 star parts, or you can pm him...Mr mazee or something like that. Difficulty depends on your available tools and mechanical aptitude... I know people who struggle changing light bulbs.... Or getting in there trunk,:shifty:

Here's the factory procedure for replacement.

I didn't follow them exactly. At step 5, I left the bottom hose connected to the bottle and removed the hose at the other end. The other end is on the firewall by the brake booster. If you have some hose clamp pliers, it's not too hard. I suspect that you can still do it without the pliers, just more time and grief.

Here's step two in the procedure.

Or deciding which "their" to use.

there = it's over there.
their = go retrieve their paper.
they're = they're ready to go.

(Couldn't resist.)

Beat me to it.....

Where trunk....

There trunk......

Like to, too and two. Or your and you're. My new "favorite" seems to me "mines". I thought mines were outlawed.

I guess we could go on and on about public screwel edumacation, or lack thereof.

Hey guys!

Hey guys thanks for everyone's help!

With school, and transitioning out of the Army, I haven't had much time to work on the coolant issue till today.

I finally found the culprit. A garden gnome....nah im jk.

But there seems to be a cluster of tiny cracks in the coolant reservoir. Even some debris in the reservoir. I hope the debris didn't get into the coolant system. What do you guys recommend?

My friend can get me a Dorman reservoir for 100 dollars. Or should I shell out the extra with the Motorcraft? Is there a huge difference?

No.

Get a motorcraft degas bottle and flush the system and bleed it.

Motorcraft would be better quality at a higher cost. Well since you are taking it apart, go grab a flush kit from auto zone and back flush the system, see if you get anymore debris out of the system.

What kind of flush kit? Is this safe for the Lincoln LS?

That depends on the user. Just be very careful that the pressure stays below 16 PSI while doing it. Alternately, you can pay the dealership to do the flush and not have to feel bad about where all the old, toxic, coolant is going.

Prestone makes one. I've done it on many cars with no issues. Once you drain the system, just follow the directions on the package. Then to refill follow the manufacturer guidelines on the radiator. Make sure to bleed the system so you don't get the water pump air bound.

Reminds me of a guy I seen changing his oil down a storm drain in the wal-mart parking lot. He didn't know what to say when the cops showed up.
