Sub's? What sub's? Area 41 did a great job, and it sounds great! :) lol There are two 12's behind the wall in a custom sealed enclosure.

Mike, do you actually keep a blanket of carpet over the amp? Kicker amps really don't like heat and you might not notice much now that it's cooling down outside but next year, I would let that thing breathe during the summer months. If the subs cut off on you, you'll know the amp got too hot.

Did they mount a board to the rear seat brace and put in two 12" free air and use the wall as an enclosure? Never mind, you said they were in a custom sealed enclosure. i can't read this early.

Thanks, Guys! :) I have not seen behind the wall, but I was told it looks great. The enclosure is all finished with carpet, and everything was screwed down to be secured to handle the launches at the track. Whatever they did, it worked. I had no issues with it at the track last night.

I will talk to them today about amp cooling. They did not say anything to me regarding any concern of overheating the amp.

I would definitely ask about it because that particular amp isn't fan cooled and your heat sinks are on the sides, which are covered on both sides. For the most part, it should be ok, it's just the 90+ summer months I would worry about. I'm sure they have it running at 2 ohms and that would give you 750 watts rms x 1 channel. That tells me they have two 4 ohm 12" subs wired parallel behind the hidden wall. What kind of subs did you end up going with?

my kicker amp cuts off from time to time lately i have had the volume up quite far. my amp is on the back of my box, which faces the rear seat, so there isnt much air flow back there and its still getting hot enough to shut down temporarily, and my amp is still in a large area, that amp is in a tiny area with no air so you will have it shut down in the summer mike, even if you have the volume half way and not cranked, if it gets warm enough it will just shut off till it cools down, but i'm sure you dont listen to your music as loud as i sometimes do, you probably wont have much trouble. unless you get into one of your neil diamond moods then watch out that amp will melt lmfao!!! looks nice though, clean set up.

I'm pretty sure your amps are MOSFET amps. You should be ok. Somehow you don't strike me as someone who would go aroun setting off car alarms all day.

Jamie, is that amp mounted sideways (horizontal)? If so, that would explain a lot of your over heating. If mounted flat, that would help you out a ton and allow the heat sinks to distribute the heat away instead of trapping it onto the amp casing. If you must mount it to the box, mount it vertical so that the heat sinks are long ways. That will allow most of the heat to travel straight up and away from the amp. I myself would not mount an amp onto a box because over time, it tends to rattle the insides of the amp and might make something not work. Seriously though, take some self tapping screws and mount that amp flat down and I think your shut off will stop.

i'm gonna change the entire set up anyway so i will mount it differently when i do, now that we finally get a break in the weather alot of crap i have been putting off will finally get done i cant stand working on stuff like that in 98 degrees with 80 dewpoints and 100% humidity!

ALL amps are MOSFET with the exception of a Butler Tube Driver. Not sure what your point was there.

Mike, thats a class D amp and as such they run much much cooler then a class A or AB amp. You should be fine unless you crank the hell out of it on rap songs for long periods.

They actually don't have any amps behind the wall, just a monkey with a bongo to give you the bumps, the amp is just for looks

I know the point is to keep everything low key, but if heat becomes an issue you could always install one or two small computer fans, in the side of the amp enclosure, blowing out into the rest of the trunk.

Looking at Mikes amp has me wanting to swap my sub amp and 4 channel amp over to the 2010 models. What I have now came out in 98 "I think". Yeah, it's time for a change.
I believe I'm going with the ZX1000.1 & ZX650.4 but still undecided right now. I'll sell the old school Kicker amps to recover some of the cash. I would order now but I don't think they'll be in before I leave off for Florida on the 7th.

Just going through the specs of these amps compared to the Impulse amps I have now, I'm seeing a big difference, not to mention that they would be 12 years newer. I'm almost defeating the purpose of removing 15 year old stock equipment with everything new, except the two amps I'm using. I'm still looking at JL Audio too.

MB Quart even shows some pretty good specs too.

Where is DAWSON ??

I had two zx1000's on my Memphis Mojo 15's! They did pretty good but them subs take all kinds of power! I had to switch over to the Memphis Mojo amps! The 2500's, I was wanting the 4000's but did'nt want to wait on them to come in and my boy had them in stock!

lol @ Danny :) I wondered why the installer said to throw a banana in the trunk occasionally lol

I talked to Brian about overheating the amp, and he said that what I am using the amp for, there will be no problems with overheating. He did say that it is not advised to do this if you push the amp hard. He would advise ventilating the enclosure.

I am still tweaking the amp volume - they put the knob in the ash tray. Right now, I have it set on level 1 - (out of 11) and it overpowers the rest of the stage when playing artist's like metallica, zztop, and godsmack. The amp is certified tested to put out 940 watts from the factory.

I love your car but these guys half arsed your install. That or its just the way the carpet looks in the pictures. I am referring to one it does not match the carpet already in the car (which by the way is easy to match) and two under you fire extinguisher it looks like it has wrinkles in the carpet. I used to do this for a living and I still do it as a hobby so lil things like that bother me but it may not bother you. But still tho your car is bad ass and it doesnt look like you cut corners anywhere else so why would you let these guys cut corners on your stereo. I'm just saying.:D

PS: Jamie if your amps are getting hot another trick is to use lil round spacers under the feet of your amp so that it can dissipate heat better. Any decent stereo shop should have them.

Nice looking stealth system.

Back when I worked doing installs no one wanted stealth, just stupid I wanna see em in the back deck crap

When I get around to it I will build a box to fit my trunk. Just not sure what speaker or speakers I wanna use yet? JL 13W7 or Cadence 18's? Or 8 Orion 6.5" HCCA Subs in a bandpass...decisions decisions

Thats why I kept the extra carpet from my last Mark. When I can afford a custom box I will have it covered in the exact carpet so it matches right.

Just take a piece to a real custom stereo shop not a best buy and they can get you sum "4th" dimensional carpet and it is stretchy too so you can wrap your enclosure without having to fight it. I myself would get some different material like black 360 stretch carpet from Specialty Products and redo the entire trunk, and I would use weldwood glue. It is way to easy and looks killer. If you need pointers on how to do it just PM me or shoot me a email. I put a lil box and started covering it in my grocery getter a few weeks ago. Just wait till I get my amps in the back and finish it out.

i got a shovel, i can dig it! looks real smooth, kicker amps do get a little crazy with the heat, only time will tell if it is getting smothered, all the kickers have a thermo protect circuit in them, so if it does over heat it will just shut down for a min until it cools down enough, if it happens too much then the enclosure can be adapted to cool more efficiently or have fans added.

it's just the 90+ summer months I would worry about.
I'm supprized that with as many 100+ days you get down there that you amps dont shut off from the heat right after they start up :D, I know i was down in Decatur and Huntsville in late july, early august and there was a few days where i was just driving to the store and my amps cut out after about four minutes, i put a little thermometer in the trunk and checked it before i left to go some where one of the days and it was reading over 150 degrees:eek:, i'm pretty sure i used my remote start more those two weeks then i do at home in the winter.

Anyway I finished my Stealth Sub Install yesterday ;)

Biggest pain is the box is bigger than the trunk opening so it will only fit in one way  Seeing as it weighs well over a 100 pounds it was real fun to put in...bet ya can't see where I hid the amp or changer either :shifty:
