Waiting Room

at first I was like, those are some freaking sweet headers for an LS... then quickly I figured out which LS that was for lol

forgot i didnt even put up any pics of this bad arse twin disc that i installed !

(pauses to wipe drool from keyboard*) Vurry niiiice! that things a beast.

ain't that the one that rated for like 700 hp/flb? you're gonna have to start working out your right leg a lot more, you don't want to look like everybody from that skittles commercial because you have one leg bigger than the other! lol

yup, rated for 700/700. i put a tick adjustable master in with this clutch, so the total
clutch throw is around 4", so its really not to bad. added ~30% effort to the pedal, but
more than halved the total travel, so it was really a give and take.

when i had the ls7 clutch in, the pedal was just above the brake pedal. now, you can see
how far down towards the firewall it is.

gotcha, a friend of mine had one of their level three single clutches thrown in his GXP, I had to drive it through downtown one night, and by the time we got to where we were going, I was exhausted! lol

All I have to saw is..... WOW. I said it before and I'll say it again; more power and better MPG. What's not to like???

IMG_0556.jpg

My last tank from SLC to West Yellowstone with about 180 miles in Yellowstone Park yielded 31.875 mpg. Not too shabby doing just shy of 85 and taking a "tour" of Pocatello looking for a place for lunch.

i may have missed it, but what bimmer do you have ?

got to drive my buddies 2011 5 series around with the twin
snail v8, and i LOVE that car. everything about it is top
notch with EXCEPTION of throttle tip in. its either grandma
slow off the line or whiplash time. nothing in between.

After some research I went with the 535i. That TTV8 (N63) seems to be a problem. BMW has a "Customer Campaign" to fix some pretty major drivability issues. The jury is still out on whether the fix is permanent. For that reason I went with the pretty bullet-proof 6. I can always add power later, but honestly this trip we're on is showing me I probably don't need it. It maintains speed and accelerates just fine even with 3 adults and our luggage.

i can see that. also, when its in sport mode, its pretty raucous as far as keeping the trans in gear,
and throttle management is even worse ( or better if you like to blow the tires off at every red light ).

the inline 6's are for the most part bulletproof from what i've read and seen, with very ample power,
so you probably made the right decision anyway. plus a bit better mileage.

I've driven a bevy of new, turbo'd cars, and this has been consistent. It's like anything less than 10% throttle, what I'd normally use to move around a parking lot, isn't enough to move the turbos and the car. Just this week I drove a Jetta TSI with the 1.8 turbo. It was so bad, the first couple times it happened I glanced down to make sure I was in gear. Must be a turbo thing.

Turbos need exhaust to make power so they generally suck at low RPM. Usually they start to come on somewhere over 2000RPM depending on the car. Puttering in a parking lot, you aren't going to be feeling them and will be moving a car that has around 8 to 1 compression, again depending on the car. Folks that run turbos at the track will launch with as high an RPM as they can to get the turbos into the game from the getgo. If you want to feel the turbo's power while parking, powerbrake around the lot.

uh no... not at the bmw price point. there should be zero turbo lag.
i have read that the dinan tune will rectify it, but @ @1200, no thanks.

I agree, BMWs are way overpriced for what you get. They are on the bottom of my list of desirable cars, just over the best front wheel drive ever made by anyone.

thought i'd change the subject and throw a few pics of of my other ls. pulled it out
of the garage for the 1st time in weeks. took it around the block. this car will for
sure make the lincoln feel slow :)

I don't have that issue. Acceleration from a stop is smooth and right away. Could be the 8-speed...

I used to think that. After owning mine for 4 months now I feel differently. After driving the rough, chopped roads in Yellowstone there is nary a squeak or rattle in the car. I got a GREAT car on which someone else took the depreciation hit.

It looks like the Taurus really does need a PCM for an O2 heater circuit CEL. I'm hoping it'll fix the minor high RPM power reduction and lack of cruise control too. I'll be driving it from my independent mechanic to the dealer (PATS = reflash) by night, since the inspection expired in April... I mentioned the PCM to the young tech who checked out the car at the dealer and he said "nah I would bet it's the O2 sensor. It always is when it's the heater circuit. PCMs almost never fail". I replaced the O2 sensor and loss a month of time for nothing I guess because employees are treated second class and aren't worth the time.

I still have no idea what I'm facing with the LS with the intermittent knocking. Both my cars are basically undriveable. On the flip side, I'm rotating between my dad's cars and they're all getting fixed and washed at work

So ....

middle of the night, coming out of Yankee stadium, Grrrrrrr ... I mean the United States of America, along I-90W Buffalo, about 40mins to the Fort Erie border crossing back into canuck country, running the clock with a couple of other guys doing 65mph wide open, (was nearly out of US allowable drive time, had already been at it for a good 9.5hrs that day) (would gain two more drive time hours soon as I cross border) ....

SUDDENLY, the guy in the hammer lane in front of me, starts an immediate left to right lane swerve, BARELY hangs onto it going back and forth, tossing the trailer nearly onto the shoulders, HELLO !!!!! wake up, I'm on the binders, me and the few behind and beside me ....

Oh deer! I said, ... Nooo, no deer BUT rather .... right there in the lane I'm in, middle of the road portion lays a tarp that had fallen off a flatbed truck.

Now you don't swerve with a loaded semi at that speed boys and girls, it's pretty near suicide at best.

I wildly yell some profanity above the blaring music playing on the radio, I aim straight for it and attempt to put it in between the wheels. Got buddy beside me also on the binders after that spectacular entertainment directly in front of us. Can't lean into his lane, have to hold it .... BANG!!!!!!! it goes as I hit it directly on center

Oh no!!! just wrecked the front end of this brand new truck I'm thinking.

at first, didn't clearly know what it was other then it was not wild life in motion nor fresh road kill.
way too big, dark black puffy laying there in my lane.

Look in the mirror on my inside, trying to keep the whole situation from heading for the gravel.
BIG PUFF of debris behind me, I can hear it rumbling underneath.

HELLO fourways!

So hard on the brakes, everyone coming to a near stand still, they give me right of way into the right lane with my fourways on, I limp to the side of the shoulder, couple of them pull over with me.

I'm yelling nasty words at this point, it was a hard impact. Heart is pounding.

Get out with flash light, thinking the worse ... others pulling up behind me and in front of me, BIG SCENE.
Guy that nearly capsized in front of us .... long gone. Probably off changing his shorts.

Damage?
a bend license plate and some black scuff marks on the white all plastic bumper.

Checked the whole thing underneath both tractor and trailer, could see it wrapped around drive-shaft and existed out back, seemed to have dragged free some dirt marks underneath, nothing torn up, nothing cracked, nothing leaking, nothing stuck underneath, in between wheels or anywhere.

Ate it up and spit it, out the back.

Others back tracked and got the remains off the road way, traffic came to a stand still.
Definitely a heavy duty flat bed tarp, no doubt. it's torn up and done.

I test out all my air system and verify I'm holding air, got brakes, all gauges look good, double checked for any leaks underneath.

Good to go ... finished trip, next morning, grabbed some Spray-9 and a pad and cleaned off the marks, bend plate back to original shape, like it never happened.

Was also getting a bolt pulled out and patch on my most outer rear left drive tire, picked it up somewhere in a yard, it went right in, tire guy was there anyhow first thing in the morning.

Boss drives in ... Hello, how was your trip?

FINE, just getting a tire plugged, no worries!

He don't need to know the rest, TRUST ME !!!!

another fine adventure. F&ck me!

ever run DRs on it, or does it still keep the street tire in check pretty well?

i have never put dr's on it, and no - if i'm running from a dig its super pedal time. from a 60 roll it does better.
anything under 60, whether roll or from a dig, i gotta pedal. a nice set of dr's would do a TON of good. i have
a spare set of rims i'll get a set on one day, some day lol

big rig - helluva story, buddy.

gotcha, thanks. I figured it was built enough to require some real driving...

Keeps getting better!!!!!!

IMG_0563.jpg

Then again, this is running around Yellowstone where the speed limit is 45. My hand-calculated mileage was 36.3ish.
